Hey I'm headed til bkk chaing mail and phi phi island to do my pedi, but I use a wheelchair as my back broke, can you give me any advice please tmacg1973@gmail.com.. thanks Tony
Just returned from a month and half in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Kamala/Patong where it was my third time in BKK and first time in the other places. Last year, visited BKK and Pattaya. Got say, having grown up in Hawaii and worked in Manhattan (NYC), every place has great things and like you folks said, it just depends on what you want. Love the intensity of Bangkok, reminds me of NYC years ago with all of the new rooftop restaurants and bars, BTS and subway and congested streets, but cheaper and lots to do. Chiang Mai had great food and shopping all nearby and beautiful countryside, temples and great weather. Kamala and Patong was like Hawaii with incredible seafood but expensive taxis just getting around town, so public transportation was a must. I found Grab great in BKK and CM, but outrageous down south. Loved them all because they all had one thing in common - the friendly Thai people.
Aging Aloha! Visiting Chiang Mai and Bangkok in a few weeks! What is the best way to obtain baht or exchange US $ for baht? Not sure how much to budget daily for food and transportation for a week. Mahalo! 🌺
It’s really hard to choose , I love both for the different reasons that you spoke about . No need to choose though and I will spend time in both cities when I go back to Thailand in February . It’s a win win haha . Good to see you both again . Good and helpful video .
Can't wait to experience Both in December , living near Miami I'm already used to the heat , I'm really looking forward to being in the mountains to be honest 😎
I am enjoying your content so much. You have somehow found the right balance between information/entertainment which I think is so rare in travel youtubers. Moving on ... we travel a lot, but most of that has been in Europe; specifically Italy; but are going to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai the middle to end of March in 2020 (we will continue on to Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines and Indonesia before heading home). Have watched and taken notes on your recommendations in most of these locations (especially loved the Ubud vlog and we will be there for a week so will follow in your footsteps) so hoping you can give us some insight into how best to experience Thailand and spend our time there. We are in Bangkok for 4 full days, Chiang Mai for 5 full days and Chiang Rai for 2. Of course any information on other locations would be welcome. Thanks for even taking time to read this and know that I will follow your adventures as they unfold. Take care. Respectfully, Ron
Hey Ron, Thank you so much for commenting and watching. We have tons of content on both places. Most the places we visit are very local and you will love them. I would just suggest to rewatch some of our older content on there.
I live in Bangkok (4 years now). I visited Chaing Mai last year at Christmas time (2017). Chang Mai was so much more laid back and chill that the first few days I fell in love....BUT....there were so many annoying backpackers and digital nomad types, it made me think I could never live there happily. In Bangkok I can live away from the tourist areas (and the begpackers and nomads) but still catch a train and 20 minues later be at Siam Square. In Chiang Mai not so easy. But if I really had a choice (GF has a great career here in BKK) I would move to Khon Kaen in a heartbeat. A city that actually wants foreigners to settle there, the first Smart City plan in Thailand, a new Skytrain coming in February and great food and education level. Go to Khon Kaen and then do another video. Great Vid as usual.
Hi there guys. Enjoying your fab videos. I'm in Chiangmai for a week from 9th Jan 2019 really looking forward to it. Then 2 nights Chiangrai before travelling for 5 weeks around beautiful Thailand. Thanks for your posts and films.
I enjoyed your videos from Mexico sooo much. But I was very happy to see this one as I like both cities and currently staying in Bangkok. Agree with everything said :)
Not good to try to compare BKK with Chiang Mai, my friend, one is a Mega City the other is a small city, that said great video. It would be fairer to compare Chiang Mai with Chiang Rai. Nice visuals and great video.
im a fan and have been following your vlogs, this is one of your best, very comprehensive and detailed comparison, you can really see that both of you are very smart to organize these topics and give objective point of views, congrats, hope to see more videos from you! thank you for these videos its very entertaining especially for me who yearly goes to bangkok for my vacation, hopefully next time to chiang mai!!
Hi Jimmy and Ta , I have lived in Chiang Mai for 5 years now and love everything about it ,no better place in Thailand in my opinion , looking forward to another year of your adventures
I prefer Chiang Mai, and go to Bangkok every 2 weekends... planning to do that when I will be able to travel after Covid... Planning to go for 1 year, with Covid we realize we can do telecommuting ;)
Bangkok has everything. For example food from the north, northeast, central and South. The only drawback is the traffic and the quality of air. My favorite dish is also Khao soi.
Happy western New Year Jimmy and Tah, and to everyone else as well. We'll have to wait until Feb 5th 2019 for the SEA New Year. I've enjoyed watching your journey in 2018 and look forward to new places next year.
I have lived and vacationed in the mountains, Ozark Mountains, but I enjoys the weather more here. I think I would prefer Chiang Mai rea more and have been looking at it seriously. The problem being I also like to see the city and nightlife to a degree, so visit to Bangkok would be better. I also want to travel and see all this country has to offer for sights, sounds, food. I do want to see so many places y'all have vlogged so the decisions are tough and I'm not getting any younger. I also wish to meet a special someone over there, somewhere!
My friend's video is nice and nice to see I'm from East Nusa Tenggara - Indonesia Have the best natural attractions in the world and the most beautiful island in the world
Hey Jimmy and tah👋🏼 So glad I came across this video, I've been back in Bangkok many times, but I have never been to chiangmai before. But this time going back, we're heading up north to chiangmai, I'm so excited to see what chiangmai has to offer. Also are you guys from Rochester? I'm from buffalo!
I've been living in Pathum Thani for around 9 months now and it's been awesome being outside of Bangkok in a quieter area with no tourists but still close enough to see Bangkok and all its conveniences on weekends if the need arises. I'm in 2 minds of where to head next year though, hence coming to this video. The deciding factor will be where i can line up a good job I guess, but if I had full control over it I think I would love to be up in Chiang Mai for my next 1 year contract. Especially since getting to Bangkok and the South really isn't too difficult or time consuming if you have more than just a weekend to do so. The overnight trains and the ease of catching domestic flights in Thailand make it very possible to live in Chiang Mai and still enjoy the southern provinces every now and then :)
Bkk is great if you live in some village around, but it is simply to hot by day and night and if you are not Thai person, you can not sleep well and Bkk is more expensive the other places in Thailand. So CM is better choices, special if you are first time in Thailand or somewhere by the coast, Krabi, Hua Hin, islands, or Pattaya if you like party. Thank You Divert Living for great video blog and I wish you a great traveling moments in the future and a Happy new year!
Well, sort of off the cuff plans would be arrive BKK spend a few days goofin....overnight Rot Fai (train) to CM for at least a couple of weeks, you know soak up the culture and eat up all the food LOL. Then hop a flight or something down to Krabi or Hua Hin and do the island life. Sounds like a vacay to me for sure. Happy New Year to all, keep your sails full and your eyes on the morning sky....ciao.
Hay guys, I just picked up my first passport this summer. My New Years resolution is Thailand for my first destination. Phuket on April fools day & Chiang Mai for Songkran. Happy New Years: Mike(9)
I live in Vietnam now...but I would choose CM. Red trucks, baht buses, and a more community feel. I wouldn't like the burning season so maybe I could visit BK during those months. But I like it here...slow pace, clean, and a friendly populace.
Thank you so much for this video; it helps a lot, although I'm still plenty unsure. Sigh. I will be a first-time traveler to Southeast Asia; If only Chiang Mai had street food equal to Bangkok it would be a no-brainer for me. Which has the friendlier locals? And is there a place outside of Bangkok city where i could stay but easily take a taxi or whatever into the city just for the evening, then escape back to, to get away from the concrete jungle? Thank you again!
Great info guys..love your videos like always..fun trip fun experience.would love to try both..jimmy is cool.tah is sweet..cant wait for your next videos..thumbs up from Malaysia👍🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Very thorough, very informative. I have visited both cities a number of times and I think you provided an excellent comparative analysis for people who are exploring options in planning a visit to Tland. Personally my choice having visited both cities my choice would be Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai. One point I would make is if you make the short trip up to Chiang Rai from Chiang Mai you can also make the day trips over to Laos and Myanmar.
Ha. Now I see why the edit on this one took so long. You guys have some amazing footage to work thru. Great job! Makes me wanna get that drone up! dont worry Jimmy I have only crashed it once! 🤓
Muy interesante video!...Tailandia es un hermoso y exótico país (para un Mexicano como yo), y seria grandioso visitarlo...cool video guys, I hope some day can visit this beauty country....happy 2019!!!..👍👍👋👋
Spent a week in Bangkok and a month in Chiang mai this past winter and Chiang Mai is my pick! I prefer the more relaxed pace of the life and the walkability of Chiang Mai. There's a new citywide buses (air-conditioned) that just launched this year that provides another option (CM Transit app available on Android store). Also my experience with Grab in CM has been great plus rides are pretty inexpensive (~$60-100 Baht within the ring road).
We hope to retire in 5 years and Chiang Mai is on our top 3 list. We are a little nervous because we hear that the large number of Chinese are now driving up prices....hope they don’t go up too much in 5 years.
Hi guys, love your videos. We’ve been to Thailand numerous times, and the last 2 trips we did there, was with our kids. And they both loved it. We did our usual. 1 week in Koh Samui, 1 week In Phuket and then 4/5 days in Bangkok. We stay at Pathwuwan princess above MBK. We love it there, as if we can’t be bothered travelling out in the heat, we have everything we need and want downstairs. We are planning to go again this year and wondering in your opinion, would you take 2 kids(13 & 11) to Chiang Mai. And if so, where do you recommend we should stay. We like central as if the kids can’t be bothered coming to shop or adventure, we can still go out or somewhere where everything is walking distance. For example, in Phuket we always stay at the Holiday inn. Out of the bustle were it’s quiet, yet still walking distance to everything.
Ahh yea i would suggest it! If you stay in old town its super central plus you dont really have to worry about loud and crazy Chiangmai doesnt get to crazy to be honest
Also on the ultimate question it depends on your needs and expectations. I have been to both and I agree with your observations. In the overall feelgood answer I like Chiang Mai because of the character of the people.
@@DivertLiving Yes I am based in the Philippines in Cagayan De Oro. I have to go home twice a year for doctors and then back but we enjoy traveling. All over.
Hi guys! So happy to watch your video. I spent a month in Thailand in November/December 2018 and had the best time of my life. I spent time in the islands, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Pai. I am going back in January 2020 for about 10 nights with my girlfriend. This will be her first time there. The issue is that we are having a hard time deciding WHERE to go. Neither of us are big drinking/party people, however we appreciate that culture and the excitement. We are both avid foodies, and love to actually experience the culture of where we are. Any suggestions on where to spend out 10 nights would be amazing.
Here's my plan: win a $300 million lottery, make plans to travel to both Bangkok and Chiang Mai, pay for Jimmy and Tah to come along as my tour guide and translators, Have a fun time for 6 months, then take them to Mexico City as a thank you. LOL. I would love to win a lottery like that, but you have to play to win and I hardly ever waste my money on that sort of thing. Great informative video, guys. If I get a chance to visit Thailand, Chiang Mai is probably where I would go since I don't party, etc and would not be interested in bar girls, etc. Looking forward to your next video. Happy New Year.
in going to thailand in march for 9 nights, after spending 5 nights in tokyo. my girlfriend and I travel more for adventure, culture, and food vs. partying and sitting on the beach. Im split between two options: 1. chang mai (zipline, elephant sanctuary, food, culture) OR 2. bankok/ southern islands (scuba diving) I just can't decide. I will already be coming from Tokyo, and we are from NYC, so we dont need more city time in thailand. due to this, I feel like chang mai would be best. BUT chang mai means no southern islands. does it make sense to do chang mai for a few days, then fly to southern islands for remainder of the trip? or is it too much traveling (given that we are ALREADY coming from tokyo) TLDR: options: 1. chang mai 2. BKK and southern islands 3.chang mai and southern islands SOMEONE HELP PLEASE
Ey guys, great and useful video. I’m gonna go solo to Thailand soon ( mid March) and I’m not sure I will have enough time to visit both places. One of the things I wanted to go to the north for was to see the elephants in the sanctuaries but you did not mentioned that. Have you ever been? I have read that there are a couple of elephant sanctuaries in the south but since they are not really from this part of the country I reckon is not very ethical? All information is welcome. Thanks a lot
I really enjoyed both Bangkok and Chang Mai. Now, if I were to be an expat most likely Bangkok would be my choice. Centralized, easy to get around. On the other hand if I were writing the next great novel of this decade I would migrate to Chang Mai.
@@louisharvel275 If you want to get away from hustle and bustle i feel like Chiang Mai can be the perfect place for you ! Happy New Year by the way !:)
I've only been to Bangkok but as an American I recommend you go to the Buddhist Temples they are beautiful and a great place to take pictures. This is off subject but buy razor blades there they are a fourth of the cost compared to the US. Thailand will also give you a different view of 7/11.
I dont know seems to me like they both have benefits and I would love to visit both but I think Bangkok for me because of its ease to get there and its price even for being a big city is pretty sweet
Going to be making travel blog style videos like you all with my girlfriend. Thailand is the first stop! Any advice you can share about making videos and what do you use to edit? Thank you!
for Thailand I have only been to Bangkok and Krabi but I think next time I should consider Chiang mai because I like colder cities! Anyway guys, could you please please do country comparison between Indonesia and any country in southeast asia? I'm really curious about what are your thoughts about Indonesia compare to others! Terima Kasih!
Could you please recommend a language school where I can enroll and study Thai Language in Chiang Mai? Cool and very informative video by the way. Just subbed you guys.. que te vaya bien!
Thanks a lot for a very informative video. I plan to spend 4 weeks in Thailand in July and I'd like to split the time evenly between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Do you think two weeks will be enough for each city? And where is the rainy season less rainy?
I like to travel very light. After watching your video I'm going to skip Bangkok and go to Chieng Mai in the beginning of December. Can I get away with just bringing a pair of sweat pants and a short sleeved shirt or how much clothing will I need at most? Thanks.
My boyfriend and I are going to Thailand May 3-17 we are planning on going to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket. We like the chill vibe and also the party life and adventures in beaches etc. How many days would you guys recommend in bangkok Chiang Mai and phuket? I’ve been watching all you guys videos super informative! But it’s so stressful planning! Lol please heeellpppp
thank you !! If you are not party animal i would say 3 days in Bangkok, Chiangmai i would say about a week and for phuket i would say a week as well - well, it's totally depend on the activity you wanna do as well:)
