Visited the Thon Buri Railway station Pier. During a live stream I ended up on that side of the river. There is an old Japanese Steam train locomotive in front of the old train station.
The old Thonburi railway station, originally known as Bangkok Noi railway station, is a former railway station in Bangkok, Thailand. It was the terminus of the Southern Line of Thailand's national rail network from 1903 to 1999.
In 2013, the station building was renovated to serve as the site of Siriraj Bimuksthan Museum. In front of the Museum there is an old steam train. Locomotive 950 is a 2-8-2 so called Mikado (named after a former Japanese emperor) and build by Mitsubishi of Japan in 1950.

The hospital name is Siriraj - pronounced as SI RI RAAD. I came here to do volunteer work in high school as part of the medical school preparation. Took the ferry every weekend from Thammasat to Siriraj.

I know the area well and have visited many times over the years from back in the days when it was Bangkok Noi railway station. I prefer to get off the boat one stop earlier, Wang Lang. Immediately there is Wang Lang market but on the other side is the entrance to Siriraj hospital, the oldest hospital in Thailand and where the king of Thailand died in 2016. The hospital itself has a number of small museums that are well worth visiting (not for the feint-hearted though). Walk through the hospital complex and you get to where Jeroen was filming. The large area behind the old station museum was occupied by railway sidings and this area has been redeveloped into a huge new hospital complex and car park. A great area to explore especially if you like museums. Thanks Jeroen.

I arrived at the old Thonburi station in 1985 on the train from Malaysia. It was a 20 minute tuk tuk ride over the river to Khao San road. Quite an adventure back then.

10:31 By this boat, if you get off at the next pier (Wang Lang, N10) it's a very old traditional local Thai market. Most local Thai (elders&youngers) usually shop at this market. It's very crowded on weekends even during the Covid-19. Siriraj is a very well known hospital and medical school.

It is a Japanese steam locomotive called “Mikado” used by the Siam/Thai railroad from 1936 up until 1951. One or two are still being used today for those special train services like steam train to Ayuthaya or Kanchanaburi on national holidays. Thanks Jeroen for another interesting video on points of interest to visit in Bangkok. The truth is that the government is concerned about the continuing collapse of the capital. Amazing.👍

Not the palace wall of King Rama I because he moved the capital to the other side of the Chao Phraya River and the Grand Palace wall is still intact to these days. The so-called Grand Palace was lived by King Rama I-VIII. King Rama IX did not live in the Grand Palace but at Jitrlada Garden Palace.

I just read what was saying on the sign in front of the wall.

@@globaltravelmate, if it was a fortress wall it could have been from the Rama I period ( although most of those are on the other river bank), but if it is a palace wall it is more likely to be from the period from king Taksin the Great, who moved the capital from Ayutthaya to Thonburi
