Mark, thank you for the compliment of the filming. I do enjoy it. Record shopping only took up a little bit of time on our vacation. We all had a great relaxing getaway 🌐
Hey JT. Since I'm so new to the VC, I've been going back and looking at older posts the people I follow have put up. Really loved the travelogue and scenery sections of this video, felt like I was there... but my god the record stores and records, killer! Cheers
Hey Bobby ! I appreciate you going back to check out some of mine. I put a lot of work into many of these, and have more coming.. As we will travel around the globe next spring, and of course I will be filming record shops stopping over in Paris Amsterdam, Bangkok and Tokyo, once again. Thanks so much !
Again, thank you for taking us on vacation with you. The sunset that you ended the video with was stunning ,so beautiful. The one shop had an impressive wall of punk records. I miss the days of record stores in my local mall - Record Theater, Record Town, Cavages. The food looks delicious.
If I counted, Mark.. I think 8 record shops in all on the 3rd floor. There are many other good shops around Bangkok, but this is so convenient being connected to the hotel. The farmers burn the crops up north in March, so the air quality is not good. This season, I didn't get sick. That allergy shot really works ! I do love Bangkok.. Lots to do.. And the food !
Funny thing. I wasn't in the mood for the Chao Praya river cruise in the heart of Bangkok, and now glad I did it. Jum and Sean really enjoyed it. The King Rama IX bridge is lit up with golden lights as well.. A huge expansion bridge. I didn't film it, though. That restaurant is my favorite.. 10 minutes from our house. Cheers, Randy
Fantastic journey, JT! I went to Bangkok years ago and loved it, but never saw any of the record shops. They looked great… a Japanese obi always looks really cool! Cheers for taking us along, Jack
Hello, Jack ! Thanks for looking in. I like Bangkok for records almost as much as Japan.. I have one more video coming tomorrow, showing the records that I bought in the mall. 🎵
In previous trips to Bangkok I traveled to 3 different stores, all excellent, by the way. It is so easy to go to these shops on the 3rd floor. And staying at The Grand Fortune Hotel Bangkok made it even easier. I should have flipped through more heavy hitters and some good Thai records.. But I was bargain shopping..and I came home with 21 records from Fortune Town Mall ! Thanks, Ralph 🫡
That was a great film JT. It was great seeing both the beautiful scenery and all those marvelous record stores. It made my fingers decidedly itchy! 😂 Mike
This was enjoyable putting our journey together as a video. I should have flipped through some better bins, I stuck with what footage I had. The Stranglers came home with me and 20 other records ! Thanks, Mike 🌐
Some great looking record stores in Bangkok Jt. I like how this video we get a coffee break in the middle 😂 Toys & Vinyl seems like my kinda place. Beautiful food, beaches & a cool host. These videos have been great Jt. Part vinyl voyage, part travelogue.
Thank you, Ben. I didn't know these would be in 5 parts, with one more coming tomorrow. I just went with the flow on this trip and my film clips. Toys & Vinyl is my new favorite store.. They have 2 or 3 shops, actually ! Next March.. Shinjuku, then hopefully, London and Ireland the following year ! Cheers, amigo 🎵
Hi JT!!! what an awesome trip to the far east you had...... visiting Tokyo, Bangkok and the record store too. Now looking forward to see what you brought home and hear some cool stories. cheers and be well
Thank you Cristian. I got so into piecing this video together, I realized it would take up too much time to show and tell the records.. So, next week works out I think ! Very cool journey again, and we will return in 11 months. ✌
Next week I will show these 21 pick ups. Too much for this one video, I thought. Thanks, Mike.. Great vacation, overall with Tokyo Disneyland on the first day for Sean's 10th B Day !
Hi JT thanks for sharing your digging experience. Really interesting to see the mall and shops. Great to see so many OBIs in one video...Also nice to see the food and scenery at the end...cheers Dale
Dale, thanks for watching this one. I should have dug and filmed through the heavy hitters and some local music more.. I was bargain shopping mostly. On Tuesday I will show what I bought at those 3 shops in the mall. It is very convenient right next to our hotel, so close ! See you on yours. 🎵
Very nice of you to let us come with to Thailand. Funny, I just mentioned Bronski Beat the other day about bands in the 80’s who lot their singer and frontman after 1 or 2 albums, released one more with either a promoted band member or a new guy and was never heard of again! (You flicked past one of then the day after. Kajagoogoo). Physical Presence… I love Level 42 sooo much! River cruise looks lovely. Allthough the lights on some of those boats looke they could trigger seizures! 😳 …and now I’m hungry 😄 Oooh, I would have grabbed that No Place Like Home from Big Country. Get that hole between my older ones and the RSD one I just got. Beautiful beach, and sunset 😊
Right.. I should have picked up both of those Big Country records ! Oh well.. Now I know, for sure. Thank you for checking this one out, and I remember that Kajagoogoo record in the flip !
I will listen in the morning. Thanks for telling about that Big Country LP. I knew it was good, but didn't make a move on it. I'll get a copy, hopefully soon. 🤘 Stream first, then buy ! Haha
Thanks, Robbie ! Jum and Sean really keep me moving ! After 4 shops I was done.. 21 records, and they fit in my suitcase with a light carry-on. I have been spinning them for weeks now ! Cool 🎵
Your suggestion got me over there, originally, and thanks for that. The hotel is reasonable, and I really think it's about 8 or 9 record shops on the 3erd floor now ! Thank you Roy, and hopefully see if if you are in town next March. ✌I've been getting into Family more, lately, and Streetwalkers !
@@jtsrecordroom3963Cool John, you’re getting into Family and Streetwalkers. Roger Chapman is 82, but he still occasionally performs, in fact he put out a new album in 2021 ‘Life in the Pond’ there’s a great You Tube video of Roger singing ‘The Playtime Is Over’ showing his voice though not as powerful, still packs a punch and it’s a rocking good track 🎉. It’s on his own You Tube channel ‘Chappomusic’
Thanks, Craig. I just spiced and diced on my editing ap. I enjoyed only being on camera for 15 seconds or so on this one ! Haha 😉 I took the pressure off to change it up a bit.
Did the Grand Fortune hotel have a pool if so did you and Sean use it? great colorful lightening at the bar , which mall is bigger The Grand Fortune or the Mall of America? that mall has more record stores than Nanuet, Palisades Mall, Bergen county , Garden State put together? does Pand P sell cassettes and cd's? any of the other stores? cool to have some coffee , Thailand looks beautiful , the River cruise looks beautiful, beautiful sunset , amazing photography thanks for sharing!!! which do you think is a better deal Money exchange or using a debit card to get money out?
Mark.. my comments back to you are scattered all over the other comments. I think I made 5 response comments to your questions. Thanks, we really had fun ! The pool at the hotel was a good one ! Fortune Town Mall is big, but not massive like the mall of America 😊
Right.. I have been getting and enjoying UFO albums in the past 3 years. I had most of those. Danger Money w/ that Obi would have been a good one to bring home. Thank you for watching these, you can tell that I enjoy filming on these journeys ! Cool, Scott 🤘
That’s amazingJt. Six record stores right outside your hotel. Must have been very hard to choose what to bring home and what to leave behind. The food!! Looking forward to seeing what you brought home. Cheers.
I think it's 8 record shops now, I didn't count. Actually, I'm getting to the point where the holes are getting filled and I am running into records that I really want ! Some that I liked were too pricy, although I did splurge on a few. Thanks, Jack 😊
Monie.. The water is warm and perfect ! Our town is Bang Saray near Pattaya 3 hours from Bangkok on the gulf. I think you guys would love it.. The dollar spends double except for the south ( Pi Pi Koh Samui and Phuket ). Check out Koh Chang on RU-vid ! Thank you for checking this one out..
Roy Goad from Pattaya turned me on to this mall, and now this is the 2nd trip to the Grand Fortune Hotel w/ the Fortune Town Mall right next door. Brian.. The air is bad from Feb to early April. They burn crops up north in Chiang Mai, so this mall is perfect ! Thank you
I get anxiety looking at all those foreign pressings. I wouldn’t know what to buy. I’m not very well versed in Japanese pressings and other issues. Is there much in the way of original US pressings in these areas? Or are they mostly reissues of US pressings. Nice Triumph and Y&T! I could just stare at Mount Fujiyama for 20 minutes. It’s enormous yet so tiny in the grand scheme of things. Thanks for taking us along, JT.
Japanese pressings are generally just good sounding good quality vinyl. Bass is occasionally an issue ( low ).. usually not. The Thai and Japanese genres are a whole other level of music to slice. Lots of great records in both countries, Thai Pop, Thai Psych, Japanese rock, folk, psych. Next year I will pick up some from both countries. Thanks, Steve 🌐
Yes it is.. We stay there often, at the Grand Fortune Hotel. My wife grew up in Bangkok, and now we live part time in Chonburi ( Bang Saray ). Thanks for checking this one out !
What a great city.. It's now only 2 hrs from my house. Good for a day trip when over there as well. Fortune Town mall is awesome, although there are many other stand alone stores in BKK. Thanks, Kevin !
There are.. I didn't do a very thorough dig on this video ! Much like Japan, great records to be found. I have Red Lorry Yellow Lorry on a Jackpot records Repress. 2 records, actually.. I'm listening now to "Talk About The Weather" .. I probably should have picked that one up. It was a bit pricy. I find killer records here in town for inexpensive. Thank you for watching David
since your answers got lost I thought I would put up just the questions and see if this time it works better. 1. which Mall is bigger Grand Fortune or Mall of America? 2. Does Pand P sell cassettes and Cd's? 3. which do you think is a better deal money exchange or using a Debit card?
Mall Of America would be bigger, Mark. And P&P does have some cassettes and Cd's. Money exchange is better.. No service fee. All of my answers are in the comment section headed with your first name. Thanks again !
Very nice ! You were at Fortune Town Mall, next to the hotel ! We stay there often, although next spring I will visit M Tanakorn record shop. Did you go to Vinyllica in the mall ? Thanks for looking in 🎵
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Yes! I bought from Vinyllica (main store, not the discount outlet) and Hall of Fame. Found some great Jap Pressings. Where is M. Tanakorn? Same mall or different location? I go to BKK every year for work, typically or a random holiday as I split my time between Boston & Singapore. Will be crate digging in Tokyo later this Fall and again in Spring. Singapore has a small but reemerging vinyl scene. I go to record shows in USA, mainly for 12 & 7 inch singles or the odd sealed rarity without a cut or punch out. I’ve had RU-vid channels before (too much work, honestly), but was thinking about making a few videos about vinyl. TBD. You are welcome for the visit. Thanks for writing back!
I rely on my wife, Mike. When we move over there in 7 years, I will study Thai more. Sean takes a lesson every Friday. I should have filmed more of the heavy hitters, I was bargain shopping because, as we know, I fall into collections over here at home. That Stranglers came home with me, though.. 🎵 Thanks, Mike
I bought Tommy Bolin Teaser Japanese press and Kate Bush debut.. Pink T Shirt w/ a beautiful Obi.. He cut me a deal ! By then.. I was over 20 records, so I stopped at those two. Thanks, Harry !
Get your largest suitcase and put them in the middle with cloths rolled around. Top bottom and sides. 50 pounds is the limit.. If you go over carry-on 5 or 10 records in a double bag. Also buying an extra suitcase at your destination is good, most airlines allows an extra suitcase. United charges. Thanks, Catherine.. This was a fun one to put together.
I do usually hand carry 10 LP's or so. The rest goes right in the middle of my big suitcase in a record box from the store. I could have shown more in the bins.. I think 22 min. was enough, and I love showing Thailand clips as well. Thanks !
I've never had an issue.. Ever. If you like hand carry them on the plane. I had 15 or so in a store record box in my big suitcase Everybody brings them home this way.. Check them when you buy, and I bet they will be fine. Cheers from Reno !
Some of the same crappy albums in the bins, music is worldwide, even the not so good stuff lol. Always fun to take a trip to a record store in a different country
She would be in the Pop bins.. They have lots of oldies in Bangkok and Japan.. I have 5 or 6 nice ones of Connie, and I saw her in the showroom at the Club Cal Neva at Lake Tahoe in 1966. I do remember that show. It's the hotel that Sinatra owned back in 1960-68. My dad was the Maitre D of his showroom back then.
