I had an amazing blue heeler named Blue. So smart. So loyal. Like having a shadow for 13.5 years but the shadow is your best friend and loves you unconditionally. I had to put him down in February cuz he developed bladder cancer .... quite possibly the hardest day of my life. I watched your video and I sure wish I documented him as well as you have your Banjo. Thanks for sharing it put a real smile on my face. And yeah awesome choice of tunes as well.
Cattle dogs are true mates . Had a Bluey for 14 years and a Red cattle dog for 15 years . They love being your shadow always by your side . VERY protective and a Great family dog . From Queensland , Australia .
Awwww.... Lucy looks just like my ACD, Dexter. Seeing this video makes me want to get a little brother for him to play with. This breed is so smart and loyal, they're the best!
What a handsome pooch. When I was at basic over the summer my parents rescued an ACD that was found in the woods. He looked just like banjo without the eye patch. couldn't have asked for a more loyal dog
That's an awesome video there brings back a lot of memories of my Nelly and Abby I just got ziva now and I will be getting another one in the future they are such awesome awesome animals a person can't have a better friend than a healer thank you for taking a time to film all of that
Just came across this video - what a gorgeous little man! We lost our beloved Bessie May this year, a 14 year old blue. They truly are a wonderful companion. Best Wishes from Oz
Wonderful video - very well done! Was "Banjo" named for Banjo Paterson...author of Waltzing Matilda? That's where I got the name for one of my two Cats. The other is named "Tucker' and my 2 Cattledog girls are "Winkipop" and "Billabong".
This is what I love about you tube, not only can you have contact with people who have the same loves ( heelers) great music and this looks a fab video of somewhere I would love to see...rushing to go to work just now...fffriday hurrah! Will give it my full attention later...thanks for lovely comment! H
nice job, I got a 6yr heeler shelter dog that looks like your female almost a year ago, since I missed out with him as a puppy I came here to get my puppy fix, soooo cute!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful puppy, beautiful breed. We're on our second ACD. The first one, "Petey" was 9 when he died. It broke my heart, but he changed my life forever. My wife wants to try a Red Heeler next time.
I feel you. My current ABH is named Mia and I honestly don't know what I would do without her. She's literally my everything. Gets me up in the morning or just sits there, sleeping with me. She pushes me to do more physically and I push her. They truely are amazing dogs
This is my first night leave pepper, my ACD. She looks just like your dog! And I miss her so much more after watching your video. Australia cattle dogs are the best. Their eyes sparkles when they are playing.
Do you use your ACD as a working dog or more of a house dog? I'm just curious because I just got one a couple weeks ago (without doing research) and I'm starting to realize she not really a "house dog".
+kraze kam she's a house doc :). I do run her at least half an hour and play balls and frisbee with her everyday. I also take her to farm to herd sheep once in a while.
Tiantian Zhang Thanks for replying back. It seemed like a lot of people have ACD's as working dogs. It's nice to see someone else has one as a house dog.
I have had Blue Heelers since 1997 (3), still have my last two Dixie (16 1/2 yrs) and Mak (9) my first one (Blue) died at 8 yrs from cancer. Anyway, they all are house dogs (Blue worked cattle a little) and I have no problems with them in the house all the time. It has a lot on how you raise them and on the owner. All are rescue dogs that I got around 1 yr old except Blue who I found in a ditch when he was just 8 wks old. They will adapt to their master ( who should be the "Alpha" of the pack). Great breed, I have had other breeds but I will stick with ACD from now on. Just love em'
What a gorgeous dog. What is your routine with him. I've always wanted an Australian Cattle Dog but am afraid I won't be able to give it enough exercise and attention.
going to pick my little heeler up this weekend. Im so excited! i live in the Canadian rockies and cannot wait to have a hiking buddy! this was a great video , I loved it and it got me even more excited to get mine XD thanks alot!!
Love your Heelers, I am planning on getting one but not sure if they require a ton of attention (I work 5 days a week so I dont know if it would be good for them not to see me for some hours a day) or if they are a bit independent. Could dedicate them about 4 hours a day and the whole weekends what do you think?
Wow its strange to me to see a cattle dog happy in snow. Here in queensland its very very hot. Nice dogs and typical cattle dog zest for life and exsperience. ...from Australia
Great video. I'm a huge heeler fan, had an OUTSTANDING heeler/akita mix for 14 years, a better dog never walked this earth. I'd like to see more, how are Lucy and Banjo getting along now? I bet the love each other and make a great team. It's clear that he brought a lot of fun into her life, and the instinct to teach younger pups is always beautiful to see. Gonna search your videos for more... nice job. :O)
I love Heelers! I have the most beautiful Red . I have had her for 10 years. I want to get another puppy but not sure how she would handle it. looks like lucy did well how old is she?
that was an awesome video im glad you are so happy with your dog. i plan to get one myself just gotta wait for the right time when im ready to have it consume about half my day trying to wear it out lol
I'm in Kingston, can I ask where you got your pup from? Noticed on video, writing at bottom said reddenblu. Think that's a breeders name. Also how much was he. Your dogs look so awesome.
Michael Yzerman Like many herder breeds you will see, they can cost between 500-1500 in Aus dollar. Sometimes less on gumtree (our ebay, amazon). Don't let that price tag fool you. Dogs still need to be wormed, vaccinated, microchipped and registered. This isn't hugely expensive, as it usually comes with the $500 dogs. Also you have to consider the food costs for a year, set the amount of food you will give your dog in one day and calculate the cost. I find that lots of people sell their pups on gumtree because they cannot take them where they are moving and because they cannot afford the simple things (like spending time with them, buying food). I have a 11 year old Cattle dog/Beagle, never had any health issues to date. Don't forget you are dealing with the fittest, most energetic, smartest breed of dog, they need tons of attention so i'd get them a friend (another pup) to hang out with, meaning you don't have to spend all day with them.
i love the video!!!! please post something of banjo with lucy now :) i recently adopted an auustralian cattle dog and is super sweet. hes 8 months old. hes getting acuainted since i have two other blue heelers 3 and 4 months, and a 5 yr old bichon frise
Has Banjo ever tried to "heard" Lucy as they would cattle? If so, how would I address that? Anyway specifics I should include with the scolding? My ACD is 11 weeks and sometimes herds my other dog when playing
I hope you got ya heeler mate sorry bout the late reply but i just saw your comment and thought id let ya know a few things..... i have 3 heelers 2 blue and 1 red i live in Australia and i breed them.... they are very loyal and love human contact as they are always willing to please but if you had 2 they will keep each other entertained while you cant be there... hope this helped mate good luck with ya new best mate.
There robust so easy to train loyal one person dog happy and active. Love my ACD now my second one lives long time , my last one was 16 have hear them livening loner !
Please stop calling them Australian cattle dogs, they are blue heelers. Australian cattle dog is a generalised term, blue heeler is specifically what they are
