Eddie Peabody is one of the all time great banjo players who also exhibited a great comic flair while performing. His professional career started in the 1920's and lasted until his death in 1970. Besides appearing on stage, radio and later TV, Eddie Peabody also appeared in a handful of movies including 3 short ones produced by for movie jukeboxes of the 1940's by the Soundies Distributing Corporation of America. One of these Soundies was called "Banjomania" which I have posted here from my 16mm print. Peabody performs "Oh Susanna" and "Saint Louis Blues" - great choices for the banjo. If you like this one then check out another Peabody classic I have posted in the past entitled "Professor Peabody's Banjo School."

@@barrysiegel131I have posted this on the facebook page "Eddie Peabody Fans Cellar" and ww.eddiepeabody.com under the "news" link. Eddie recorded lots and us fans are always grateful to find something "new". Keep up the good work. Sean.

I sure wish they would do the Lawrence Welk version of St. Louise Blues. Prolly a copyright violation, but that was the best, loosest version I've ever heard.

I'm here because a Roy Clark interview where he mentions watching Eddie at a concert in DC and being inspired by him to learn the banjo. Thanks for posting! Here's the Roy interview: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CzFJPGUiR00.html

Not really, two completely different styles for two different styles of music. Its like saying that metal guitar is painful to watch after watching Gypsy jazz guitar

He and Paul Martin were neck in neck, I think. But he absolutely owns the banjo, plus he had huge musicality that knew the precise chords and chord shapes in order to play both the melody and the backup. He was an absolute pleasure. There's a place in heaven for guys like that, who bring such joy.
