The tugboat loan story was hilarious. Nothing beats the rare paperwork processing confusion. Better still because they actually had to use a PAPER application.
I totally side with the person that took out the 5k loan to help their dog. Dogs are great and if an expensive surgery helps them live a good full life and the person can afford the loan then approve it. If someone owns a house and has credit cards but barely uses them that would be a good sign in my book if I was a banker/loan officer. No sence in living above your means with high credit card balances. I hope that dog lived the fullest most comfortable life it could. Obviously a great person to do whatever it takes to help their dog
There's now two online vet services that give you any money necessary in veterinary emergencies. It's a phenomenal program, I saw the ads on Facebook and saved posts. Will return here with links
@@copperphilosophy4768 I rescued a dog with pre-existing medical conditions. We got pet insurance on him, and I'm so glad we did. It paid for his $8000 knee surgery and several rounds of meds. If you have a pet, especially a large breed, it's a good idea to have pet insurance and/or savings, since their knees/hips are very prone to issues.
If I couldn't get the loan for her, a couple of twenties might fall out of my pocket. Then I'd let her know about all the agencies that would be happy to help. Because every year people die of heat related causes and that's a horrendous thing for a community to allow if they know and do nothing
I used to sell cell phones. On my last day, we had a guy come in on two different occasions asking us to help him with his email app because "my girlfriend stopped messaging me- I must've accidentally blocked her". I felt bad, but we made nothing on helping people with their issues. The first time he came in, I knew it was a scam and said nothing, partly because "well, it seems 'she' got what she wanted already'. Then he came in the second time, and I really didn't want to have the awkward conversation with a 60+ year old man that "there actually isn't a 20-something US marine who's deeply in love with you, a 60+ year old man, it's just a scammer", but we also couldn't have him keep coming in and wasting our time, so I made someone else deal with it. They will not believe you. The scammer coaches their victim so they can reject whatever you have to say. You could be their child or spouse but the scammer has you convinced that they're legit and should be trusted, and that everyone else is part of some conspiracy to keep them from getting the money you now believe they need.
Some people just don't get (most of the) people that have pets that aren't goldfish or bugs of one kind or other. Our pets are NOT an interactive decoration. Most of us do NOT buy/adopt pets purely for the amusement they can provide. Our pets are a member of our FAMILY. Would you have someone kill your mother, son/daughter, or nieces/nephews because and operation for them would cost you $5000? If your answer is yes, please go walk in front of an oncoming train, and forget to get out of the way. If you don't forget, an angry pet owner (or parent) just might push you back onto the tracks.
Back in my fast food days we had an employee who would only work 20 hours a week. She had no other job. She was seriously struggling, as you can imagine, working minimum wage and minimum hours. If we scheduled her anything over 20 she would freak out and threaten to quit. She explained why: Years before she had bought a truck she couldn't afford. She didn't make the payments. It got repossessed. She still owed money. If her income went above certain amount they would garnish her pay. So her plan was to fly under the radar for the rest of her life rather than pay off that debt (that she legally owed and incurred through her own bad choices) and get on with her life.
My Mom always told me a story about her college classmate who used her OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program ) loan to buy a brand new luxury Mercedes instead of you know college expenses. This was back in the 80s when OSAP paid people the money for their entire college program in cash, in advance. Now you have to apply for every semester and your school is paid directly and you're given a modest lump some to cover expenses like text books, equipment, first and last months rent etc. (Which you have to pay back later) She had no money to live on for her first semester and stayed at various friends houses (not my Mom's) and it wasn't long before her university came knocking for the money, she filed for bankruptcy at 22. I can hardly imagine how boned her credit score is.
Yeah, that’s a stupid-arse way of giving school loans; glad they changed the policy so now you have to really try to dig yourself into that deep a hole. And yeah, god only knows how many kinds of f^cked that lady probably still is even today.
A few years ago I had a banker laugh at me when I asked about getting a $10k loan for a small 1 bedroom condo - said they would never loan out such a small amount..even though I had good credit and a cosigner available - ... how was my attempt to live on my own funny compared to these ridiculous requests?
Whenever I hear one of those foreign scam stories, my 1st thought is always 'how did they even have $25, 50, 100,000 to even get scammed out of in the 1st place?' Then I get pissed that they had all of that $$$ & let themselves get scammed. 🤨
The person talking about the farmer who put his cows up his for the loan is lying. Unless he has 1 or 2 cows (about $4000 worth). The bank won't just go pick them up. They'll efficiently fire him from the farm. Take over the farm themselves and then employ a farm manager. That's a world wide thing. The bank just collects profits till the farm is sold. I'm assuming the farmer was in a 50/50 situation. He owned cows, tractors etc. Someone else owned the land and buildings. Dairy farmer here. I used my cows to get a loan to buy the land so I owned 100% of the farm. Not 50%.
A barn ( depending on condition) is probably worth $50k-$100k while dentures cost on average $600-$1500 but if she’s getting surgery for dental implants and prosthetic dentures it will cost $10k-$50k. Either way you put if the bank took the loan they would like make a good deal of money.
I sell RVs. Had an elderly couple trying to buy a $300k diesel motorhome and trying to trade in a fifth wheel. They owed more than it would sell brand new. Apparently they had a camper prior to the fifth wheel, and the debt from that was rolled into their present loan. They’re FUMINGLY ANGRY that I won’t just take their camper and give them the new MH with no money down. Their credit wasn’t very good, and I’m genuinely surprised they were approved for what they had, albeit at 17%. No bank would touch their loan application without $30k down.
I took out a loan for a vacation. Had all my available funds tied up in paying for the vacation, a road trip. Car had a random needed repair a week before and it jeopardized the trip. So I grabbed $1k from a payday loan place so I could enjoy the trip. Costed me $400, but the trip was fantastic and completely worth the ripoff.
Why take out a loan for a vacation? You only get married once (or twice, in my case, but no one plans for that). If you don't get a break from your preschoolers, you may kill them, yourselves, or eachother. The kids won't be young enough for a family vacation to Disney world forever. The oldest kid is 17 and you want one last family vacation to Yellowstone. Mom/Grandma is getting elderly and fragile and this "vacation" is really a final trip to see her alive with some touristy stuff thrown in to not make it all depressing. People aren't making enough to live life, only to barely survive, and life doesn't stand still. So they take out loans for vacations, or they would never take a vacation.
Attitude with restricted credit card(s): "GIVE ME ACCESS TO MY MONEY!" It's a CREDIT card, not your personal "cash filled piggy bank." Pro tip: Money; FIGURE IT OUT!
I'm a little surprised a tugboat loan would cause such consternation. Tugboats are still a thing, right? I mean, I haven't given them much thought in recent years since I live about 300 miles from the nearest ocean, but surely there are people who make their livings this way.
It was a bureaucracy thing. The company had not issued a tugboat loan in so long that noone knew what the policies and paperwork for it was anymore. Noone wanted the responsibility of approving or denying the loan without having a company policy to back them up.
@@przemekkozlowski7835 I guess I was a little surprised that "tugboat loan" actually had its own category. I would have thought it gets lumped in with other capital commercial vehicle acquisitions, like someone wanting to buy an 18-wheeler or a small business jet, with a few extra clauses relating to maritime law.
@@bryanekers3472 Same, tugboats aren't exactly front and center in "remember the 90's" compilations. I can't think of any recent technology that made tugboats obsolete.
A former boss told me this story of when he worked at a bank. His colleague had the desk next to his and he watched it first hand. Back when he worked at a there, a young guy in a fancy suit applies for a loan. He flashed his expensive accessories and turned his nose up at those he obviously thought were peasants. He wanted $100.000 for a house renovation. The bank did some research and realized he didn't even have a job and hardly any money in his account. He was living of all the loans he had been taking for 5 years after hid graduation. When the bank denied him the loan he just asked why. "Well, sir... You have too many unpaid loans already, and from what we have discovered you haven't paid off even a cent of your debts". The young man stared with a confused face. His reply? "But it's a loan, its free money". His world came crashing downnvery quickly. His debt? Well, it was way past $400.000. I've seen this guy hanging out with the local drunkards. As the story goes he had to sell his large house, cars and everything else to pay of half of his debt. He has apparently never held a job for more than a month. Nothing seemed to have been up to his standards. He's in his late 40s now. Idiot.
All my neighbors were taking out home equity loans and going on vacations and buying stupid stuff. We never did that. A couple of them went to move and found themselves so underwater on their homes it was crazy. We’ve always lived within our means and saved for that rainy day. I got hurt at work and went without a paycheck for 13 months. Kinda sucked but never missed a bill or get behind. Neighbor gets divorced and loses the house.
Not a banker or someone who has gone in for a loan, but my mom has mentioned on several occasions how my dad’s sister tried to talk them into co-signing a loan, while they already had debt to pay off, for a set of dishes. I believe it was a $500+ set of fine china, but that detail is a bit fuzzy since this aunt also was given a car because my mom couldn’t afford to buy it a new transmission. Aunt was told in advance, but still came back to bitched out my mom for giving her a broken car.
Not really the same thing but my moms bestfriends grandson wanted a new car but for some reason he couldn't get a loan on his own and his moms credit was so bad she couldn't co sign a loan with him. So his grandma, my moms bestfriend, co signed the loan. Don't remember what happened but he lost the car, something like an accident or couldn't afford the payments so stopped paying and repossessed. Even though he still owes the loan he refuses to pay it and since she co signed she's screwed. The bank cancelled her credit card she uses for emergencies like if she needs car repairs or something. Even though he's the one that got the loan and fucked her by not paying she blames the bank.
@@tylerleuschen8132 I know that's meant to be a joke, but the kind of damage Scientology does to every person and family who joins with the control they exert over the patrons' lives, compared to widely accepted religions that vary widely in that sense, is not to be mocked or minimized.
@@ArcanineEspeon You're absolutely right, it shouldn't be minimized. However, I disagree with how damaging other major world religions are, in particular Jehovah's Witnesses and Muslims. The subjugation of women with Muslims and total ostracization of family members with the Witnesses are horrendous parts of their tenets.
6:05 what on earth?!? A loan officer says a daughter should save $40 for 2 months to pay either $60 or $100 (idk if they wanted the a/c installed or not)?? Umm I question if this person works at a bank.
16:54 Why would that cost $50K? Was he planning to travel exclusively in first class? That 60yo needs to calm down and learn to use the internet like the rest of us!
Here in the US, economic and employment conditions have made it so that sometimes a struggling single mom's best option for income is to have another child. I have to wonder if the woman asking for a loan because a friend had a child was doing it to make some kind of statement. Or, you know, since we live in a world where a person who can barely support one child can actually gain the means to support multiple children by simply having another child, perhaps it just seemed logical that a giant cube full of money would be willing to let someone use a tiny fraction of that money to help another person provide for a new child.
