Isiolo-Meru-Wajir-Garissa-Mandera highway construction will start in January 2022. 744KM of tarmac. Reducing travel time from 8 days (96hrs) to 12hrs, on that route. The project will take 5yrs to complete. It will be the second most transformative project in the region after the Isiolo - Moyale - Ethiopia highway (504Km) was completed in 2014. The project will also entail laying of fiber optic cable on the entire 744Km and beyond. The cost will be Kshs 84 billion.

@@jjgamechanger9182 very true..but altleast half a road is better than no road at all. Construction of The SGR which has changed the fortunes of Mombasa town started in 2014,Lamu port ++many other major highways in Nairobi nd Nakuru. So he did not waste as much time as you think.

The world bank recent report came out and said the cost of corruption to Kenya is 680B. These roads coast a fraction of that. 680b would network the entire country plus leave some more money for universal healthcare and free secondary education. That said corruption should be the number one issue come this election. If you are a presidential candidate and corruption is not top of your agenda you have no business being President. Because even if you say you will bring jobs and the like, these jobs require funds/money and if the money is being corrupted how the hell are you going to create jobs. Macharia CS of transport said once dongu Kundu is complete it will attract 200,000 jobs. All because the infrastructure will enable 200,000 jobs to be created. So there is a direct relation between money and jobs. there is a cause and effect relation between corruption and jobs. More corruption less jobs, less corruption more jobs.

@@patricknjogu2962 In the first term of your administration you are really just getting a feel, you are appointing people whom you hope share your same vision. But the first adminsitrion folk think that it is now their time to eat and by the time you realize whats going on, its already close to almost your first term over, and then you are preparing to get reelected. In the second term you have learnt your lessons and time to rid off the corrupt or folk who do not share your vision. Same thing happened to Kibaki in his first term. Remember he had to get rid of his close friends due to corruption issues but then once he got reelected he could then refocus and bring in a new team that shared his vision.
I grew up in Taiwan in the 70s. President launched 10 major infrastructures including the first highway, and faced strong opposition based on budget. President said “if we don’t do it today, we will regret tomorrow” and borrowed money from Saudi Arabia; and these infrastructures kicked off the extremely rapid growth of economy.
Even after all that positivity that the infrastructure has done, the lady newscaster is still talking about the cost that has gone down in making this dream come true to those kenyans in mashinani, show me any country including America Britain or German that does not borrow to finance infrastructure or maybe she lives in places like muthaiga that's why she doesn't care other parts of the country people living in dusty pot holed roads at least we can see what the borrowing is doing unlike during the past governments that borrowed and nothing was done ,I read somewhere that Kenya is still paying for loans that were borrowed around 1975 for projects that were never implemented

The easiest road to Nairobi from Hola is Hola_Mtomo road via Wayu town.Encourage the government also to do something to this road.This will also ease commodities from kitui to tanariver and even lamu if these roads are constructed
Garsen_Hola and Garissa road are a short cut to Nairobi.Citizen, encourage the government to reconstruct Garsen to Garissa road.The road has started cracking and in some areas there are a lot of potholes.The road to Garissa is very bad.Plz do something citizen.

In Kenya roads are classified from A (Int'l trunk roads) to E (minor roads). The quality varies greatly across the 5 tiers. For instance, the Mariakani - Bamba road is C107, that's tier 3 road done by KURA. It means, the road isnt used heavily, traffic is low, tonnage is low etc. Much as it looks poorly done, it will serve the purpose. The Chinese are majorly building Tier 1 and 2 roads which require a higher grade given the expected usage.

Well I'm sure the price has been inflated, but I also understand that since it was a high risk project because of the frequent Al Shabaab attacks, the contractor may have demanded more money.
