I had alot of great memories at the Garden.from wrestling matches,to Celtics games and the ice shows.there will never be another arena that will ever duplicate this place.i also remember driving by when they had the inside halfway exposed .I honestly got choked up.Long live the Boston Garden .a true historical shrine.
I love the end of the video when the credits start to roll and the camara man is actually at the front turn styles and then starts walking through the hallways and then out to the actual arena...its magical
No at the time when the Centrum opened it was a state of the art arena, it was air conditioned, had better accoustics, while the Garden was dirty run down, no AC , and reeked of stale beer and piss.
My dad said the same thing about Old Chicago Stadium that you did about Old Boston Garden, Andrew.; "Just thinking about Old Chicago Stadium literally gives me the chills because of how loud it was in there.", he once told me.
@@willisapril It probably was better in terms of innovation. However, I don't remember Larry Bird, Orr, Bourque, or anybody of great athletic worth making their names in the Centrum, which is what this show is about...
Watching this reminds me of historic Miami Hurricanes games in the old Orange Bowl! It was such a home field advantage. It was such a historically bad decision when the city of Miami decided to tear it down instead of refurbishing it. SMFH (the greatest college football stadium ever!
One of the greatest indoor arenas in the history of the U.S.A., in my opinion.; Another one that I hold in the same regard is from my home-state of Illinois: Old Chicago Stadium. As a fan of the Boston Celtics, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Chicago Bulls, the Boston Bruins & famous/"old" (if I can say that) arenas & stadiums, I don't think they should've torn down Old Chicago Stadium & Old Boston Garden.
Yes, Madison Square garden and The Rose Bowl in Pasadena's Arroyo Seco immediately came to mind when he said the "best known" But Boston Garden is right up there with any of them. Honorable mention list: 1. Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (built for the 1932 Summer Olympics, and still magnificent enough to host the 1984 Summer Olympics forty eight years later) 2. Notre Dame Stadium (Just plain magical) 3. Luzhiniki Sports and Exhibition Complex (located in the middle of the city, and includes both the huge Moscow Olympic Stadium and the Sports Palace, site of the famous '72 Summit Series, and has many smaller fields and arenas, venues dedicated to athletics)
@@willisapril - The Garden (boston) blows away MSG. The Garden was smaller and was built for boxing. The balcony was essentially out over the ice. Greatest vantage point in sports history, really.
I remember all the times walking up that slanted hallway for events as a kid then getting hit with the smell of stale popcorn, beer cigarettes and the circus such fun times
How do you go an entire hour talking about Boston Garden without even mentioning Bill Russell? Why were Russell and his Celtics so under appreciated in Boston?
Doug Harvey changed the game by being the first Defenseman to rush the puck up the ice. Bobby Orr idolized Doug Harvey, stole his style and never gave him an ounce of credit. Expansion era cups suck!
