Wow it's pretty funny we both got the same two bikes I grabbed the polygon tr8 last year was sold I loved it but broke the frame and now I'm riding the banshee paradox V3 I ran it with the Plus tires 27.5 and it was awesome for a year I ran it that way and now I'm on 29ers full on my banshee paradox and I'm thinking about putting the 275 back on the rear and you just made it easy for me thanks
it's a stunner eh. an American guy, who's a hard tail fanatic just reviewed it as well and couldn't gush more about it. if i get back in the HT market, this bike is on the top of the list.
My first ever bike was a hard tail , 26 inch wheels , cross country geo , 2011 Merida . Hardly been on one since , seeing these aggressive looking ones around now has me intrigued.
Cam Wells thats where it all starts. I was banging around on a cheapo hardtail til I folded it round a tree, I reckon that was in ‘06. Been on squishies ever since. These new ones are wild, I’m hanging to ride a good steel one now
I'm running a Sonder Transmitter V2. It's designed as a plus bike but I am now running a 29er front wheel but have kept the 27.5+ (27.5x2.6) on the rear..... Did this mainly to get rid of the floaty feeling front end.....so far so good.....I can cope with a bit of squirm on the rear.....as far a HC Ht's go I reckon it is the ultimate all round setup......
I’m looking at getting a Hardtail as I miss that stiff/pumping end. Found this and watch your video and really keen on it now. I’ve got a Remedy 8 like you had which is upgraded to 170mm, it’s more my Park bike. Looking towards this as a fun ride bike. Do you agree it’s that much different than the Remedy that it’s worth it? Also, based on what you said I would do a Mullet setup
Maldwyn Greenwood definitely be a fair bit different to the remedy. So much fun and capable of pretty much anything outside of super rough gnarly stuff. Definitely go mullet as well 👌🏽👌🏽
Great review! It sounds like the 27.5 rear wheel is a home run! Any other strange things happen with the switch? BB not too low? Seat tube not too slack?
I wonder what the head angle is after switching to a 27.5 in the rear. I'm surprised I don't see more mullet hardtails. Seems like a perfect setup to increase stability and confidence if you're planning on using in on trails with lots of rough downhill sections
Joey Kyber I’d say it would be close to half a degree slacker head and seat angles. Definitely makes the bike way easier to send and hold on to when it gets wild
Did you eventually decide on a hardtail frame? I sold my Kona Honzo frame a while back and I'm looking hard at building up a Banshee Paradox. It would be my XC and trail bike for my more mellow trails. I have my enduro bike for the more brutal trails. I think the Paradox frame is also a pound or more lighter than many steel hard tails which is a nice bonus while still giving good ride feel.
If I was to buy a Hardtail it would be the Banshee no question. The steel Pole hardtail didn’t feel any better and even though its steel, I’d question the long term durability and potential warranty service. Those Banshee frames are the top shelf for frame performance in my opinion
+ MTB Telly Ive gone from a Enduro hardtail ( Dartmoro Hornet ) to Fully with 145/160 and now ive seen this.... might need to go back 🙃 This thing is gorgous! Is the backend a bit compliant? My Hornet was quite horrible with that massive rear triangle..
I don’t think hardtail and back end compliance belong in the same sentence haha. But for a hardtail, yes it felt quite strong and a little better at taking hits than the steel Pole Taival
thanks for the review I am considering one of these frames, Can I ask how tall you are as I am 178 and looking at a large but concerned the bike is too long, I want the bike to be very flicable and easy to jump as my background is bmx racing so want to have fun mucking about carving corners, propping wheelies and jumps. your comments make me want this is a mullet set up. Also al vs cromo do you have any more experience with that feel last question what was your overall weight of the bike? thanks again for your content and time
Anthony Gysberts hey mate, no idea of the weight but I’d guess it was around 13kg as I had it set up. I’m 174cm and with the shorter stem it felt excellent. I was sure it would be too long for me but it worked out good. I’d still get the medium for my height. You’re right in between the sizes. You’ll be fine on either size, the large will feel more stable when things get wild, the medium will feel more playfull and manoeuvrable. I’m demoing another steel hardtail soon, but I so far there hasn’t been a noticable difference in compliance between the alloy and the steel frames I’ve ridden. I think a good back rim will be the important factor there. New stans flow ex3 or dtswiss ex 511 would be my choice
I'm Just about to buy the paradox v3 for my 50th birthday, with 29 F/R but i can't get any solid information on sizing.. Any advice would be greatly welcome.. Im exactly 5'11
