The Banteng (Bibos javanicus) is a cattle native to Southeast Asia, it is one of the three living cattle species included under the genus Bibos, the others being the Gaur (Bibos gaurus) and the Kouprey (Bibos sauveli), there are four recognized subspecies of banteng: the Burmese Banteng (Bibos javanicus birmanicus), the Bornean Banteng (Bibos javanicus lowi), the Javan Banteng (Bibos javanicus javanicus), and the Bali Cattle (Bibos javanicus domesticus), like the banteng, the gaur also has four recognized subspecies: the Pahang Gaur (Bibos gaurus hubbacki), the Myanmar Gaur (Bibos gaurus readei), the Indian Gaur (Bibos gaurus gaurus), and the Gayal/Mithun (Bibos gaurus frontalis).
