With Chirp I am able to vary the power on the standard 888s between high & low verified with a meter. High setting gives me around 3W, low does between .5W and 1.2W. 0.5 W is useful for PMR.
Thanks for letting us know about these updated 888s! This morning I ordered a pair of 888s, but then saw your video! I hurriedly cancelled my Amazon order and ordered these instead: Amcrest Baofeng ATR-22. Thanks again!
Cheers! Although you should be aware the Amcrest radios have the exact same internals, they're just much more expensive. They're sold under license from Baofeng by Amcrest
I've received my ATR-22's today and I'm already having a bit of buyer's remorse. They feel cheap and light! The belt clip is not mounted via a metal tab, with an axle and spring, but it is just a plastic clip with a "live hinge". The radios feel chinsy and lightweight. They programmed fine via Chirp and I haven't tested their range or sound quality, but I think I should have kept my original order of the 888s.
If you are concerned about the single insulated wire but are not handy with a soldering iron then another option is to get some aquarium air line tube, remove the plug, slide wire through and then refit plug.
Great little video there as usual, my 888 video has had over 100,000 hits! they are a very popular radio as they hit all the right points, never tried the voice inversion feature out as some radios have it and others dont, I have just received another radio and will be making a video shortly, I picked up a couple of those WLN KD-C1 radios you reviewed for my kids as they love playing radios, they were £8.99 each although I noticed the seller has just put them up to £11.99? Looking forward to your next video (More Drone repeater videos please....longer range test next time) :-)
Hi Paul, Yeah they're the foundation of any good Baofeng collection haha! I'm going to do a chinese handheld radio collection video soon! Over 30 now and counting! WLN's are awesome, bargain price too! Glad your kids enjoy them. I'd be tempted to steal them off them though! lol. I may plan a drone video at some point haha. Cannot wait for your new video. What's the ETA on it?
Just got my first 888s, they look like the yellow one old design I guess, unfortunately it doesn't have FM radio and doesn't do voice scramble feature, I guess it is all about luck with these. however I have a small issue I wandered if you have ever faced: I programmed them with PMR frequencies using Chirp and the 888s sw just in case, I have one issue, if I transmit on channel one or 2 the other handset pics up the signal no matter it is on 1 or 2, I have checked the frequencies are different , and it sounds a bit different ? what could be causing this ? bad unit?
ok I figured it out, the PMR frequency spacing is too narrow for Wide band FM , in the programming sw set it to NFM which is the narrow band FM and it solves this problem. now when you transmit on one channel, it doesn't take up 2 channels on PMR :) found a good video explaining this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X4GxA9QuGuI.html
You really cannot complain for a tenner a throw. Not sure how much help they would be in a breakdown around my neck of the woods but in remote areas as you say better than nothing.
thank you, it works. a side note though, the installation program won't run on win7-64bit and cannot be installed unless you right click on it set it on compatibility mode win-xp, then it does install.
You are right. A standard lamp cord looks better. A solar panel.and a timer box (wind up type if you can get it) salvage a cradle and make a regulator to roost in the same box as the timer. Ah! Ps put 3amp diode in line with fuze. There you are I've even used the panel from a security light. For a more personal power unit.
I bought my new BF - 888s and I am planning to program it, where can i get the program you use in this video? It is more easy using this program. Thanks.
Hi, I've just bought a twin pack from Amazon. This might sound daft but do I need to programme for personal use and if so can I just use the same frequencies you used in your video or how does it work. Thank you
Hi i changed all the frequencies to pmr446 and then when i turn the radio on a chinese voice appears followed by a long bleep. Am i doing something wrong i have tried all different frequencies and its the same on all except the pre programed ones. Thanks
Ringway Manchester thanks for the reply mate but sussed it now i was using the old software 1.05 and it wasn’t compatible download the zt-v68 software and it worked a charm
I had one of mine say that in Chirp for a moment, but when I set the channel to 16, turned it on and off, it was ready to be programmed by Chirp again.
So out the box,.they work with other 888s's, correct? I bought a 4 pack for my kids, and I. If I program mine to a specific frequency (as in your video), can I still talk to my kids on theirs, or will their models need to be programmed to the same frequency?
done it! bought a new pair off ebay, I will be easily able to programme these like I can with my Baofeng UV5R, I will get the frequences off my Mitex which I have written down, get these 888s up and running and then sell on the mitex back on ebay. should get a good price for them I think.
You are not very Good at showing how to program these little radios l must say l did not understand what you were doing you started klicking this and that without telling were and what,
