Good grief :) i'm returning to the hobby after decades away and i simply cannot believe this stuff, it's taking a megga effort to get my (72 yo) head round it. Great channel.
I have this radio I really like it I use it to talk to a writ of this rb22 DMR radio but I can only talk to the RV 22 if I've sent a Tok request from the RV 22 to the baofeng and if I release the push-to-talk on the rb22 within five seconds I can talk back on the DM 1701 but after 5 seconds I can no longer talk to the rb22
Thats a nice handheld radio. Have you heard that baofeng uv5r is being banned in some parts of the USA. Couldn't be sure if it was correct or not. Have you heard anything.
@@brianwhelan5093 The FCC make me laugh they Ban a Radio because it can transmit outside the Ham Bands and then give Approval for this Radio FCC Part90 Certification ID: 2AJGM-DM1701. The DM-1701 is compatible with digital and analog modes, including dual band VHF/UHF coverage of 136-174 and 400-470 MHz.. Seems to me like they are just after Money.😔
Thank you for the run through. It realy helps. could you give a go through on the baofeng dm-1702b dmr gps. I just ordered it and am feeling like a man on the moon. I can't seem to find any one that has a clue, reviewing that model?
great radio .tried to download the programming program from Radioddity but can't do it for some reason and want to buy one. Any idea of a link to get it, please. They are cheaper on eBay so getting it from there
Hi They usually come with a small CD with the programming software and instructions on it. I bought a Boefeng RD5R DMR Duel Band radio about 9 months ago and it also came with a CD..The RD5R works fine on DMR and Analogue and is very affordable. Good luck with your DMR adventures. 73 M0BFM
@@Taffy866 Your very welcome.. Did you try the link at the Radioddity Site for the programming Software and Manuals...Although the Radio is a Boufang its actually made by Radioddity, they work together on a lot of there Radios. The Link is below. www.radioddity.com/pages/baofeng-download
I'm not a fan of DMR at all, don't like the tinny audio, setting up can be confusing and if your just out of range the audio can be quite stutery. Give me good old analogue any day. Good video all the same.
Looks like a decent radio. Sounds like Baofeng audio. I’ll take my Anytone 878. That a fantastic radio. Thanks for the video. It nice to see what manufacturers are doing.73
Another good vid Lewis, seems to me all these Chinese radios are produced in the same place, none really being better than the other, as long as you can hit your local repeater. Tried the tyt 380 against any tone 868 on the gb7fw repeater ....... no difference other than ergonomics and display less strenuous on the eyes..... keep em coming, 73’s
Have had this radio a while now, works real good, no problems. Just had to get temp subscription to Microsoft Office to be able to import contacts. Could now use bigger contact DB. 120k is getting short real quick with more joining DMR world.
Hi, I have a few Baofeng UV-5R radios that I’ve been experimenting with. Recently, I decided to upgrade and got a pair of Quansheng UV-K5's, which I really like. Then, I felt the need for digital radios and purchased a Baofeng DM-1701, hoping to catch some local digital chatter. However, I haven’t been able to pick up anything at all. It seems like I might be doing something wrong, or maybe there’s simply no one talking. Thanks. P.S. I got the digital radio because whenever I scan the area and hear chatter, it’s just static. I know this is because they’re transmitting digitally. After googling digital ham radios, I found the DM-1701 and decided to try it.
They brought out the RD5R a good while back, it's a duel band DMR and Anologue Radio that works fine on DMR. So this would be there 2nd DMR radio that works. This newest one looks very much like a Copy of the Anytone UV868 but with there early firmware version.. It would be good if it could be re flashed with the latest Anytone Firmware as it's a far better user interface.
Wow the Baofeng has stepped up their game....My first radio was the Wouxun which was not that well but it worked. So then I just went back to Commercial Radios like Kenwood TK3180 and had that one in service for 4 years during that time I also bought the TYT MD390 which I like and still use today. I bought the Motorola MotoTRBO XPR 7550e and the XPR 4550 recently and love the Motorola Radios and have been using them as my daily driver, my TYT MD 390 is my back up Radio.
Hey Ringway! Do you happen to know the waterproofing rating on this? I have been digging through their website to no avail. Looking for a good radio to use outdoors(plus i am rough on gear). Thanks!
Have this radio. How do I get rid of the speaker with an X at the top of the screen not the monitor on off .....the one next to it. Trying to receive dmr
So for those of us that are older hams that haven't been active for 20 years, can you do a video explaining what all these digital modes are? How on earth were you talking to the Wirral from Mike November in Stockport?
im new with ham radio & i knw im gonna sound dumb but im just gonna ask anyway. can someone in 2 diff countries contact each other on a handy talkie? is it possible?
it is not an Anytone, but for the price I'm very please with this radio, it works well on both dmr and analog... feels solid ... battery life so so.... I would like have the option of saving new contacts from the keyboard but talk group contacts, not direct id contacts
I have the baufeng 1702 put in freqencies and code plugs and slots get the light on top but carnt hear anything being broadcasted on channal any ideas pal thanks ring way
My friend can listen to it on his and he gets a voice I put same colour code and freqencie and I get just green light no voice dont understand the talk group as I'm a newbie to the radio been bugging me for days lol hope your well pal love your vids
Can you manually key in a frequency on anologue mode? And is the volume a digita volume dial or a anologue dial which you can set to any volume you want and doesn't go from being loud to absolutely no volume when you dial the volume knob
Great detail review Lewis! I was wondering have you gotten the DMR database programmed into this radio and if so how did you do it? I seem to be having problems tackling that and getting an error.
I was told this radio requires Microsoft Excel to upload the user contact database. I have 2 friends with this radio who can't upload the user contact database and a couple thinking about buying one but have no plans to purchase Microsoft Excel to upload the database when it should have been built into the Baofeng software. Is there a work around for this problem?
Hey Lewis, hope your doing good during this groundhog day like situation lol. I've just ordered one of these for £65 In just couldn't resist. Just wanted to ask you something quick. I currently don't have a license due to delays till whenever. Do you know if I can work this on any license free network's or do you know of any site's that support this. Thanks in advance. 26CT2997. 73
I was unable to message after the live stream for the giveaway, it wouldn't let me, however if it's still going, would love the Retevis RT98 mobile unit!
Hey Lewis, The programming cable looks like it is not s serial version but radio just straight USB to PIIN so will NOT work with other radios IE UV5R that use Serial.
@@TheUberdude187 And a Radiodditty GD77...Its funny when you look at the Firmware they come with usually Retevis MD790 😊..They all seem to be a Clone of a Clone of a Clone.
