I dismantled the microphone and drilled out the hole in front of the microphone to 3mm. The origional hole was less than a millimeter in dia. that made a big improvement. still testing. May try the insert at a later date
Has anyone considered using the element from a 'astatic noise canceling' mic or even converting it to be a little louder and clearer by using parts sourced from a cb amplified power mic . Just to make it stand out with little bit more pronounced clarity- But NOT at all like a screaming obnoxious cb power mic. Curious
Great video. Step by step comparison before adding the foam should show the improvements clearer. I have a lot of the BaoFeng radios and most have small mods. My daily carry is the BF-T1.
I dont want to order from overseas, so, it would be helpful to know some details about that part you are using, like supply voltage, diameter and maybe ohm rating?
Multiple changes were made to the mic at the same time. There is no way to determine what actually caused the change. I always enlarge the hole through the case over the mic capsule on Baofeng products. This change always improves transmit audio.
On my mic. I remove the small black filter on the mic and make a big hole on the mic casing. Before the quality is so low sensitivity and the output is bad (hard to understand if the signal is not good). After i do the modification its pickup is increase and the output is clear. But your modification also good that you replace it.
how big did you make the new hole? Did you use foam? This is what I plan to do. Simply make the hole bigger. And perhaps add a little foam. The opening is way too small, and it is off center. Before proceeding I need to get an idea of hole diameter.
thansk for the video. i willbe doing this to my unit when i reeive my parts. I do have one question, does the speaker cut off if an external ear piece is connected?

I believe you have to look for some echo microphone for CB transceiver and you will have to modify the cable and connector for Baofeng usage :) 73, Paul.
The audio is bad, still. You neutralized bit of the "echo" filling the empty mic body with that sponge but the audio quality is the same , its like to listen through a tube. I swear you really should ge a propher speaker "cuttered" for the voice and nothing else . You can have lil improvement if you play with the caps and resistors, to compensate your voice. Remember this mic ( and alots of the same line, with diff brand ) are designed by asians...and they usually have a deep voice . So you have to tweak the treebles . Last but not least you can get more "audio quantity" by adding few components like a 2n3904 transistor making it a preamplified mic ( the mic cartdridge is a electret so you have some voltages for it , no need to have a battery ) .
