I love this radio. Mine came with a 15 inch antenna. I was listening to a couple of guys talking and one sounded like he was sitting right next to me indoors! 23 bucks form Amazon. 28 with tax. And the keypad lights up!

I have a Nagoya 771 and the 771G and even though people swear by them I just don't see a huge difference over the rubber ducky.

I have found that the 771 to be superior to the stock antenna that comes with the GM - 15 pro.

Smiley 5/8 duck 465 MHz is very good. A 15 1/2 inch antenna in a holster is in your armpit. PIA

The 771/g is mainly for air band I believe. Not totally sure.

Line of site is key. I got 30+ miles on this. Channel 15 on high, hitting a repeater. That said I was elevated and so was that repeater. I was told by fellow gmrs s that would get 50 miles of that repeater but the had 50 watt units. Fun fact with the Motorola talk about I got 8 miles line of site over water. Neat item you have there... beats having someone on the other end responding to can you hear me now???

one thing that I thought of is when getting out some distance when you transmit. this unit will record your audio plus any noise coming in with your carrier, and then rebroadcast the noise along with the voice so you may get more noise with this then you would if you were talking to another person.

tHAT DARN PLUG -- LOL -- same thing happened to me for about an hour--- then i watched a video with a Radio Store guy doing a review -- he said be sure the Plug on the unit is all the way in -- i got up and looked at it and sure enough -- it was lacking about 3/16 of an inch -- i shoved on it and wala-- it began to work... also found out, Turn on Unit First -- the plug in your Radio in on off mode -- then turn it on -- the Unit will recognize it. Nice Video.

Thanks! I have been wanting to get one of these small repeaters in order to put it and a small radio in a tree to make a cheap repeater.

PL/ or tone the receive on the radio on the repeater. I did that next to a microwave tower. The microwave tower started tripping the squelch on and off on the radio and had the simplex repeater fried in less then a hour.😪😪

Was only able to get 3 block away before I lost communication. I was walking the dogs and calling into my daughter. I was expecting to get better range. Granted it's a neighborhood in Houston, but very disappointed on the range. We were on GMRS channel. :(
@Reloadeez
@Reloadeez 9 месяцев назад
Range won't be good in urban environment on handheld to handheld. There is 3 open gmrs repeaters you can use in the Houston city limits that have good range though.

@@Reloadeez thanks, guess I need to learn how to hit those repeaters and learn more about GMRS radios.

Repeaters are few and far between here in northwest Oklahoma. I can’t get anyone on my GMRS base. I live on a hill and and have a 50 ft tower with a good antenna. I guess there is not anyone with GMRS radios.

Thanks for the video. Is there a reason you went with simplex instead of duplex? Sure come makes both and they're just about the same price. If I pick one up I'll use your Amazon store.

You did not have any counterpoise. It would work much better if the ht/antenna was properly grounded.

the repeater? seems to work as it should, I like that I can test the range by myself. the wife sometimes doesn't like to talk on the radio. it is small fit's into a shirt pocket, only problems that I have had with it is battery dead and not getting the plug pushed in all the way

Is there a reason to get a GMRS radio instead of an amateur HT, and then programming it yourself? Maybe learn something? Like not to prop an antenna against an aluminum ladder? You'll still have to beg for PL Codes from the locals and enter those.
@GMRSRadioonaBudget
@GMRSRadioonaBudget Год назад
their are many Ham's that get a Gmrs license, why would someone prop an antenna up against an aluminum ladder? they must not know much about radio's and antenna's, if you are talking about the ladder in the video, it is a wooden ladder, I think I even mentioned it in the video, and I have never had to beg for a pl code, most are public they want people to use their repeaters
@RobertJohnson-xk9lz
@RobertJohnson-xk9lz Год назад
If you take a close look at the ladder, I believe that you will see that it is made out of wood at lease that is what my old eyes see I could be wrong.

Unlike amateur radio, there's no coordinators for GMRS. As long as you don't create a collision with another PL Tone it's fair game. And as it's a simplex parrot the repeater channels should be irrelevant.

My local repeater automatically broadcasts its own PL tones several times a day or whenever someone keys up after it’s been silent for a while.

During covid I walked 7 miles a day and did what he did with 2 GM30s and a simplex repeater. 8 foot tall green corn field ground level you can't talk 1/2 mile. Hill in between/// not even a half a mile. Rock face mountain to bounce a signal off of/// 6 miles. Mississippi river talking between 2 lookouts. Very clear with 12 miles line of sight. I still do this daily walking the dog locally with a J pole antenna on the house roof and the same two GM30s. 3 miles is about what they will do. Less with leaves on the trees and I have noticed with spring time sap running in the trees. The distance has been cut some.
