Weight has always been a big issue for Suhail, who was unable to find long-term success with dieting. But when she was diagnosed with high blood pressure and fatty liver disease, she knew she had to do something. See how Suhail was finally able to lose weight - and keep it off - after gastric sleeve surgery at Baptist Health.

[Suhail] Weight has always been a big issue for me. After I had children, it just went up higher and higher. I was too tired, very winded. I enjoyed going to the beach, but wearing a swimsuit, it's not the most flattering thing, especially when you're overweight. There were some things that were concerning that I knew that I had to take care of. For example, a fatty liver. I was becoming hypertensive. I was dieting, it would work, but it wasn't a long-term solution. And then a couple of years ago, I had a few friends that had this weight loss surgery and they were very successful. I just was tired of the weight. I wanted to feel good about myself, and I said, I'm making this change for me. I'm very comfortable with Baptist Health. I knew that they were going to be good surgeons, and I was going to be well taken care of. Baptist Health has a support group. I thought that was very beneficial. I did meet with a dietician for several months. That time allowed me to make those changes, that once I had the surgery, I was able to implement and it made a huge difference in my success. So I had the gastric sleeve surgery. I was in the hospital for a total, a little over 24 hours. It went great. When I was my heaviest, I weighed 228 pounds. A little over a year after surgery, I weighed 154 pounds. In a matter of six days, my blood pressure had dropped 20 to 30 points. It was a great feeling to be able to walk into the store, and notice that you're no longer this size. Now you have to come down to this size. I like going to the beach now. My mindset in terms of what I eat and making sure that I stay active are on the top of my priority list. I enjoy lifting weights, and I enjoy walking, dancing. Now I feel like a teenager again on the dance floor. I can dance all night long. I was able to be successful because of everything that was offered. Before the surgery, during the surgery, and even after, it was absolutely wonderful and I'm very glad that I was able to choose Baptist Health. So many improvements, so many benefits. I know that I have a healthier future. Nothing's going to hold me back.
