Regarding your own book, I also follow a landscape photography channel by Thomas Heaton who made a photography book. Each photo in his book has a QR code linking to the RU-vid video which shows when he took the photo. It’s a brilliant idea that you guys could easily incorporate with all your video content!

The agave section (as well as the rest of the book), in Ivy Mix's Spirits of Latin America, taught me a lot. I also really loved Sother Teague's I'm Just Here for the Drinks and Shannon Mustipher's Tiki

12 Bottle Bar is a wonderful entry point for people new to cocktails. Yes, it has recipes but more importantly, it really helps you understand the building blocks of cocktails which is the perfect base knowledge you need before just parroting recipes from books.
@hnahler
@hnahler 2 года назад
Minus the Genever section :-) I started with that book, too and would certainly not call myself an expert. While the stories I 12bottle bar are entertaining, I feel it doesn’t tell you enough about the differences in spirits, flavours, etc.It is evident that the book is written by a hobbyist couple passionate about cocktails who lack the expert knowledge. To be fair that is what the authors say about themselves. - I love Cocktail Codex as a step up.

@@hnahler The Genever section was the 12th and final bottle I bought and I didn't get to it till a few years after the other 11. It's definitely fun to spring it on confused friends but no, I don't regularly drink any of those cocktails.

My absolute favorite is Charles H. Baker’s The Gentleman’s Companion; Or, Around the World With Jigger, Beaker, and Flask. It’s a fascinating Prohibition-era travelogue of Baker’s far-flung trips in search of exotic cocktails and it does not disappoint. I’m in the process of blogging through every drink in the book (with a friend), and it has been a blast.

Hi! Wondering what the rules are about looking up a recipe for a drink - AT the bar, possibly in front of the guest? I recently got a request for a Pims Cup, and although I was introduced to this drink IN the castle at Kurraghmore in Ireland when we were guests of the Marquis (my sister played polo with him) - you'd think I'd have remembered that one (we enjoyed them regularly) - Phew, that crowd drinks - a different special cocktail for each hour of the day, until dinner with champagne first then multiple wines; one for each course! And of course, our Lord host dressed in a red or black velvet tux every eve....and the Marquessa, beautiful! Percy and Jayson the Dobermans prancing at her chair...That was a few years ago... Thanks for a great channel!

Thx for the woderful video. I'd love to add "The 12 Bottle Bar" by David Solmonson & Lesley Jacobs Solmonson and "The American Bar" by Chares Shumann to your list. The first is probably less interesting for a comercial bar but even more so for everybody who rahter spends mony mixing than earning it. Its aproach is quite practical, trying to give you the biggest variety of coctails without spending a fortune while educating you about origins & backgrounds of both drinks and spirits plus giving you valuable advice on how to throw a cocktail pary without spending the evening chained to your Kitchen / Bar. The second is more of an Almanac than a novel which makes it invaluable for a quick look while making drinks, it lists hundreds of cocktails both alphabeticly and by base spirit and has an equally informative part about barting itself, your tools, setup and resources as well as how to be a good host.
