Opinion: Whether the father's motives were racist or not, pushing a school leader during the high school graduation ceremony in Baraboo was a despicable act.
A video from Baraboo High School's graduation shows a man shoving the school district superintendent, Dr. Rainey Briggs, away before he can shake hands with his daughter in the congratulatory handshake line.
In the video the man can be heard saying “I don’t want her touching him.”
The father has since been charged with disorderly conduct and Briggs was granted a temporary restraining order.

You're not telling the whole story. In addition to the points you made, the father Matthew Eddie, also claimed... on camera... while being interrogated by the police .... "I didn't touch him until he touched me." What a liar! The video clearly shows Mr. Eddie storming the stage and pushing Superintendent Briggs. So, clearly Mr. Eddie was the aggressor. In the past a lot of people got away with these one sided accusations. They would deliberately shift the blame because it was their word against the other persons. But, that type of behavior doesn't fly anymore. Cameras are everywhere and it's no longer so one sided.

It's purely racist. He knew exactly what he was doing. If you had an issue with the district, then why take out your frustration on the sole black guy and not the other administration members 🧐😐👊🏽. We have NO idea why this guy did something foolish - could've been a jerk due to the superintendent doing something to instigate his dislike or not - doesn't really matter - he shouldn't have pushed him and his precious baby can tolerate a handshake of a person she may not adore. She might have refused to obey him, as is her right. She might have disagreed with her father, as is her right, and she might have acted as she pleased, in this case shaking the man's hand, as is her right. So dad took matter into his own hands and did not allow the only Black man in there to "touch his f*ng daughter." She clearly looked ready to shake the superintendent's hand and then she was obviously mortified at her father's actions.

A father will take action to protect his daughter from individuals he fears may have harmed his daughter in the past. Do not make comments without knowing if THIS INDIVIDUAL HAD HURT HIS DAUGHTER in the past. It is unclear what caused the fathers action it is not unreasonable to assume the father had cause to prevent this individual interacting with his daughter on this her big day, so please do not comment or at least allow the father the benefit of the doubt.

There are injustice issues everywhere, and until the truth comes out, it's best to say nothing because there are three sides: the fathers' side, the superintendent's side, and the truth, which we may never know. Sadly, this young lady had to have one of her life highlights messed with.

Matthew Eddy admitted in his police interview that Dr Briggs specifically had nothing to do with his daughter's issues. He also lied to police in the same interview by saying Dr. Briggs touched him first when the video clearly shows that he initiated contact. That's the truth.

Absolutely not! He (the father) doesn’t say anything to anyone else about the treatment his daughter received at the school system. So the superintendent was his first and last step in resolving whatever issues his daughter had while in HS? His second tell is/was “I didn’t touch him until he touched me.” Aside from that being a lie, the superintendent could have touched him if his lame a** hadn’t jumped on stage. Great father embarrassment that will last forever. He doesn’t have a problem with any of her teachers, assistant principal, principal, or counselors.

The superintendent never said it wasn't racism. He just didn't know what the hell was that guy's deal. And the father is a liar since his own explanation contradicts what was caught on camera. So...no.

@@belias360 What was caught on camera was an asshole father grabbing a black man by the arm and giving him the business. But he didn’t do it because the guy was black. He did it because he thought the guy was wrong in how the daughter’s suspension went. Now the Dad was in the wrong, no doubt, but not because of racism.
