I just also love how he is not defensive when he answered the question about people saying he didn't do enough for black people. He accepted how people could feel that way and went on to explain. That is how you handle those type of conversations! Now you have the one on HIS WAY OUT who gets totally defensive and don't want to explain anything and gets very rude about it!

I met a black guy who has worked in every presidential administration since Jimmy Carter in the Civil Rights Division. He said Barack Obama was the worst president when it came to helping black folks. He said publicly that Obama said things publicly to make blacks feel good, but he wished black folks could have been in the room behind the scenes to hear what he actually said about them.

I miss this level of poise, intelligence, and dignity in the presidency.

whatever you say about this man, you have to agree that his composure is admirable. EDIT: Responses to this are telling. People somehow perceive this comment as me being a diehard Obama fan. People are unable to compliment someone they don't agree with.

I love this interview. These were respectful honest questions from a black person’s perspective on things that impacted us.

People are always trying to project their own subjective perspective about what Obama was "supposed" to do for "black people" onto him as if their perspective is what reality is based upon, and as if this were an Autocracy and not a Democracy. It's ridiculous and unrealistic. Nobody would ever argue that Obama's record was flawless, and I'm not saying he can't be criticized, but when he says that he was kept from doing much of what he wanted to do by a Republican Senate, that's not just some convenient excuse. That's real. He actually was, in real life, because that's how a Representative Democracy works, for better or for worse. Overcoming three-hundred years of systematic oppression is going to take time. Change on that scale isn't going to happen overnight. So if you're disappointed by what Obama accomplished because you expected a single black man to reverse the course of history by himself, in a single presidential term, then that's on you for placing such absurdly unreasonable expectations on him.

I don’t understand why people felt Obama went around the how you helped black people question. He said the answer directly and he had problems with the Republicans in certain states. People don’t understand how the American government system works. This isn’t a monarch country! Understand how the system works. And it’s very easy to talk smack about someone when you’re not in there shoes.

The way President Obama simplify for us how things work in the government system, I understand now. Now, I know I need to be voting for other voting sessions beside the presidency to make change on a state level. I was one of those people that thought that everything fell on the president, and that it was only him that could change things. Now I know better, and I will be voting for all state levels positions to be filled for my state. If we can vote for good people on our state levels, we can cause REAL change to the world.
