Kenyans speak English as a national and official language. We listen to american music majorly hiphop and it definately has alot of impact to the kind of music Kenya puts out there. Its not about trying to be them, its more of something that has grown in a Kenyan culture, ands thats just Kenyans being Kenyans. For music that sounds Kenyan, you can listen to Kansoul ft Nameless - Moto wa kuotea mbali

You cant really force it though, if I love hip hop, Which Kenyans do "I guess" you can only do it in a certain way based on the major influences of hip hop. Music is cultural, and it should be allowed to roam the world, pick it up if you like it. It was meant to unite the world and it has done that well. And there is much more to African/Kenyan music than this, there are genres that have a strong African sound, people "unfortunately" listen to this kind of music more. Kenya is a diverse nation and we have always had choices, I am happy to have this, Hart_the band...
@bryanobonyo
@bryanobonyo 7 лет назад
Nicholas Kambala no of course i defo get you, hip hop and rap is a global sounds which we full acknowledge and the point we made was that you can still make those type of songs but adding elements that make it unique to your country and culture, we are not saying african rappers can't make songs like this no by all means we support it. what we wanted to point out is that there should be also varation from the rap scene and even a little bit of experimentation of mixing trap/rap with traditional kenyan sounds or sounds/melodies and instruments unique to your country and culture, that when showcased on a global platform will make it unique to other countries and culture . It can be done you don't have to go far to look at for instance the rise of Afro Trap in france with artists such as MHD, to the UK with stormzy, Giggs, Skepta to even some extent south africa such as the Vura song we reacted to on our channel 2 weeks ago. All these sounds are influenced by rap and hip hop but have an added flavour that just give them that USP ( Unique Selling Point) in the global side of things. hope this helps further clarifies our point.

Yeah it does.., forgive me though I just didn't want it to look like it is all we do... I recommend "Something for you" by Octopizzo the same artist, it is rap with a "Kenyan/African feel"
@Attitude-royale

I agree with you, but I'm sort of split on the idea. Sure, someone shouldn't try to be from the US for popularity but at the same time I don't think they should be boxed into a category of music because of where they're from. Afrobeats/Afropop is one genre of music so its not really fair to tell someone they should stick to a certain genre because of where they're geographically from. You never know, that genre may not even be their strongest area artistically. I believe a good song is a good song and the uniqueness should be an individual thing and not a geographical thing.
@nicholaskambala5685
@nicholaskambala5685 7 лет назад
exactly
@bryanobonyo
@bryanobonyo 7 лет назад
We never said that an african artist HAS to do afropop or afrobeat and they can't explore and do other sounds no of course not an artists needs freedom. What we said or was trying to say is variation in sounds. The worst thing that can happen for the 'scene' is for everybody to be doing trap that sounds the same. We you could say are giving a heads up for other artists in the scene to say you know what is these guys are good at the trap it don't mean you go and do it. Find your own sound. Secondly our point was now if these artists want to cross boarders with their sounds which i would believe they are then it ties into what we was saying that. If you are going to make a song like this how are you going to sell it to an American or a British person. What different substance are going to bring to the table that is not already there. Because all that will happen is people will scream imitation. They Will think why does a person from africa sound and make music the exact same way as us. And to add to majority of 1st world country ignorance. They will just ridicule it.

I completely agree..kenyan hip hop artists struggle with being so westernized, so much that they dont even use swahili thinking that it won't sell internationally yet the same market they're selling to rap to a casper nyovest song in which he raps in xhosa..but then again kenyans don't like to consume kenyan music as much as countries do theirs..the problem lies with both sides but I completely agree with you guys about artistes not getting too over-influenced

Thanks for the positive criticism. Its better to do a reaction video where you have comments rather than always saying its cool. That being said, I'm sort of split on the Africanism aspect to music. At the end of the day, I do agree that people shouldn't try to be something they're not but at the same time, they shouldn't be boxed into a corner artistically because of their cultural background. An artist may be better at doing Trap/ Hip hop music rather than Afrobeats even though he's from Africa.
