This is such an excellent and insightful video Dexter. Also of note, slavery in Barbados was so cruel that they life expectancy of slaves was age 18… it’s truly amazing that anyone survived and that we are here today.

Very informative. The history of Barbados is one I'm not familiar with -- though my maternal grandparents were born there, and you have given a flawless history lesson. I've been researching the Lewis family and have been lucky , with the help of a distant cousin, to uncover some family history. Thanks, and I am looking forward to more of your presentations.

At 10:30, as a genealogy researcher I would have thought you’d have known better than to say something like this. James II (the Duke of York), who founded the Royal African Company and his brother Charles II, who gave it a royal charter, are not ancestors of the current royal family. Charles II had no legitimate children, and James II was deposed in 1688, with his remaining British line going extinct in 1714, and his Jacobite line being dispossessed of the throne and currently living in Germany.
Well done Barbados, you are respected now an example to the others, lead the way forward leave the other islands behind, God help those who help themselves, they cannot serve 2 masters. They need to come out from under their oppressors and keep their self respect and dignity

I wish st kitts and Nevis would follow Barbados. The Barbados government did the right thing. What Vote are you talking about. The bajan leader had already wow every seat on here island. All of the overseas territories in the Caribbean should be ashamed of themselves. Similarly the independent Caribbean islands still hanging on to the British and French. Almost four years later my neighbor to the south Barbados is booming and well respected here in the Caribbean.

It wasn't a surprise for Barbadians - Barbadians have wanting to get rid of their colonial past for decades. And there is no such thing as black Africans - Africans (Sub-Saharan) ARE black.
It's all well and good getting rid of their "colonial past"now,as the British Empire ceased to exist over 50 yrs ago. They ought to have broken away from the U.K. when it actually mattered,unlike the situation now.
