I hadn't heard her name since my first sculpture class at Community College. When we got to carve soapstone, we were required to put a hole in our piece somewhere. I kind of resented it, but it was a good lesson. It's only upon revisiting her work in this video how relavent her themes were in my work later on. I love enclosing space with material, I keep going back to cages. For my boyfriend I got a piece of white alabaster and made him an ivory tower, shaped like a flame, with tiny rooms bored into it. Hepworth's influence is everywhere, for me.

Continuing to learn more about Barbara Hepworth after seeing today's Google Doodle honoring her (August 25, 2020--see article at this link: www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2020/08/25/google-doodle-celebrates-famed-sculptor-barbara-hepworth/5631164002/). One of the sculptures shown in this video looks very much like the one pictured in the doodle (at 0:26 in the video).
