She played at a night club my Memaw worked at. My Memaw said that she was her favorite artist that performed there. She also said that she was kind and respectful to the staff. That impressed my Memaw greatly. And believe you me! Not just anyone received a compliment from my Memaw. I was so lucky to have my Memaw. Her opinion of me mattered/matters greatly to me. Always will. Thank you God for giving me my wonderful Memaw who loved life and music.❤🎉❤

I WAS the first American Indian DJ in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Female and Full Blood, Otoe-Missouria Tribe Indians of Oklahoma. I work for Radio Station with Mr Mike Graham, Radio Station Manager, KTOW in Sands Springs, Oklahoma. We featured Country Babara Mandell, she just lost her first band in a terrible plane crash ( very Sad ) but she Sang her Heart and Country Soul, as just as Beautiful as Ever cause she was True Country, she was so Beautiful and put out a Show, I will never Ever Forget. She talk to all of the DJ's like she knew us all her Life. She Complimented me on my Accomplish and Shook my Hand and I felt like all that I did was all worth it, just to have those words come from one of the most Unique and Beautiful Lady of Country, cause I was Country, too! Plus in grade school I put Peanuts in my Coke, and I still do to this day! A memory I'll never ever forget 🎙💿📀🎻🎶🤝 Thank You, Lee Riley, DJ....
This gal was insane talented!!! I seen a video of here playing the slide guitar and other instruments and she blew me away!!! Wow what talented lady!!! We love ya Barbara!!!
I remember when Barbara and her two sisters had their variety show in the 70s/early 80s. Those girls could play almost anything with strings and quite a few without!
I was so happy when this song was introduced. 1983-4 I Was in high school. Came from Michigan. To California, Anaheim. I played this song. Loud and Proud out of my old Ford Truck. Love you Barbara..

One thing that stands out for me, not only does she have a beautiful voice, but like a lot of singers of that era - up until probably the early ‘90s, her technique is fantastic. Listen to her vibrato, it lets the notes breathe. It comes in usually at the end of a phrase, or on selected long notes, sometimes subtly, or sometimes more emphatically when the melody dictates. And, like many singers of that era, she sings the melody and doesn’t go all over the place with extra notes. Wonderful singing ❤

I grew up listening to this Legend and still listen to her today. I loved her show with her sisters and looked forward to each episode with excitement waiting to see what dances she was going to do and what instruments she was going to play. All that God given talent in the tiny body. Has she been honored by the Kennedy Center? Hopefully with the next president she will be if she hasn't already.

Loved Barbara back then and still have her LPs. Missed her show tapings as I was I'll and greatly regretted it. But did attended one of her live concerts.
@@ericpoulsen3749 Los Angeles. I was her fan when she did her TV shows here. Then she left and I gradually lost connection. The other night I suddenly wanted to check on Barbara and discovered all the accomplishments she had made.

This song reminds me of my very best friend how died at the age of 46 of cancer. She would always say we were country when country when wasn't cool .boy i really miss her
I love country but I also love rock and roll and Motown Rhythm and Blues -- wore bell bottoms but I also wore straight leg Levis -- I was an all round kinda gal -- didn't learn how to line dance but hey I'm young at heart and thinkin' I'd like to do that 62 young and proud to be a baby boomer! Love Barbara along with Dolly, Loretta, Patsy, Lynn, Tanya and the list goes on and on! Music is in my soul. I am proud to be a country bumpkin

@@barbaramandrell859 Thank you for all you've brought to us over the years. You sure made a difference for this world. This 62 year old that grew up on rock 'n' Roll, started enjoying country in the late 70's, when I moved to Houston. I tip my hat to ya!

I went to her concert at Market square Arena in Indianapolis IN back in the 80s. Great show! Saw Ricky Skaggs and Ronnie Milsap.Simply awesome night of entertainment!!!!
Kind of interesting NBC put that on considering 10 years earlier the networks canceled all shows that were related to either country music or the rural lifestyle.
Lol this song was me as a teenager, I never fit in cuz I grew up with all these great singers thanks to my grandma, since I was about two years old. I use to pretend I was Loretta Lynn. But in high school yes liking all them Conway,George, Barbara, and watching her haw wasn’t cool cuz you see the eighties was hair bands and yes I liked my share of them but country is in me so I was country when it wasn’t cool 😊and did all the things she talks bout in this song thank you Barbara and all the others for a great childhood and teen years as I sit and continue to listen at age 51 and remember my times with my sweet grandma.
Yes, hair bands were big in the eighties, but I think this song was born mostly because of the Urban Cowboy era in the late 70s and early 80s. Everyone wanted to be a part of that, particularly those from the urban parts of town. Then the fad sorta died down, and maybe that's where you come in. You stayed true to your roots, while MTV showcased more popular music to the world. Just a hunch.

*04/20/2020* I remember meeting her & a few other wonderful people back in the 1970's. I live in Missouri & in Eureka we have a large amusement park called 6 Flags. My family & I met the sweet & lovely Barbara Mandrel, Johnny Paycheck, Lobo & Bobby Vinton. I even got up on stage & had my photo taken with Bobby Vinton & kissed him on the cheek. (Wish I had those photos now!!) I leaned into the vehicle that Lobo was riding in as he was leaving, & kissed him. I'm sure tons of other great stars performed at 6 Flags, but unfortunately I don't recall any others that I actually met. And then when my son was 9 y/o in 1991, I took him out there to see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!! 🐢🐢🐢🐢 Side note: I just watched Starky & Hutch yesterday & Lynn Ander- son was on there!! Another true beauty. 💓
