that bailiff has got it made, you have to be off the fishery at 7pm, so he comes along rolling meat and catches loads, when paying customers have gone. we're bloody baiting it up for him,very cute.

As a young lad (13 ish) night fishing in the large pool where the River Wey, River Thames and Desborough Cut all join by The Lincoln Arms pub in Weybridge Surrey. After a quiet night catching a few small chub and bream, I put on a sliding bullet ledger, size 8 hook and baited up with a piece of sausage out of the sandwiches my Mum had made me for the trip. I cast out into the middle of the stream using my 14ft Daiwa match rod and Mitchell 305 reel with 5lb line. 20 mins later the rod nearly flew into the river I'd hooked into a 7lb Barbel (my first ever) an hour or two later I got another about 5lb. That was 47 years ago and I remember every minute...

Thanks for the tip.We're still working from the camera microphone as radio mike's are so expensive,and we pay for everything out of our own pockets,so I guess its just a matter of time/learning with sound levels. Maybe next year we'll fund something.

I call it the Old Mill at Aldermaston. A few miles west of Reading,Berks. Its day ticket. Not an easy water, but some good fish in it.

Lugworm or ragworm legered about two feet off the bottom.You need a rocky shoreline though,if you live in the south anywhere from Dorset westwards is good wrasse country.Deep water close to rocks,and cast into gullies. Small size 2 carp hooks to 15lb line.Good luck.

I seem to recall that Hugh Falkus said in his book on sea trout that he had spooned hundreds of fish but only one had contents in its stomach, much like salmon. My sea trout must have been in the river (Thames) some months as it had lost condition and weight. Graeme's fish was caught several weirs upstream of mine on the Kennet but was in reasonable condition so perhaps it only came in late from the Thames estuary, say a month or so earlier. I have the sea trout and salmon statistics for when the salmon trap was in use with the majority of sea trout entering the river in June and July but with the salmon arriving later, between July to November. Apparently, most sea going trout are female, like my fish and Graeme's one, and the males tend to remain in the river.

A Xacti and a Sony. But there are loads of models out there. We don't even use 10% of all the facilities they have.If you want to get a camera I suggest the most basic model so there is less to go wrong.

Having just seen this video I also think that was a sea trout. According to one EA expert it was the sea trout that benefited most from the salmon ladder scheme and the largest trapped, before trapping ceased, weighed 13 pounds. I caught one at 2lb 10oz a couple of years ago which that same expert agreed was a sea trout.

Some good tips, but I would have thought you would have shown the actual technique of rolling the meat down the swim. You only show playing the fish afterwards. Having some experience at rolling meat and catching a fair number of Barbel using the method, I know that there are lots of tips that could have been demonstrated. I was shown the method years ago by Trefor West on the Teme, and had the chance to pick his brains, so know that there is much more to the method than shown here. PS: What a great Chub that was, congratulations :)

You don't miss much do you. Just twenty yards upstream from the big Perch spot.I was In the main weir pool .I guess you mean where I got the wild Brown trout. The barbel came further downstream

Just a suggestion Graeme and please dont take it the wrong way as I really enjoy your videos However, although the camerawork and picture quality is excellent, I think you could do with improving the sound quality a tad - especially with the indoor parts that sound very echoey in the room recorded in plus the music would benefit from being better modulated to the general soundtrack levels

I have known them caught on bacon fat,but don't know about other meats.The fattier the better. Luncheon meat of Hot dog segment is best I find..

kris reddin aldermaston mill nr reading,£16 per day but trust me it worth every penny,ive had some big doubles over the yrs,4 weir pools,garden swims where he caught from and a cracking bit of avon canal which is awsome aswell,tight lines mate

Enjoy these vids to an extent but when you have a fish on, please concentrate on playing the fish. There's no need to keep turning round to address the camera, we can hear you. I hope the barbel was rested before taken up onto the bank.

Sorry,but we don't have radio mikes they are too expensive as our films are free to watch .We only have the standard directional mike which means where you turn away the sound level fades.To bring that up to normalise means a correctional adjustment in the edit suite which means the ambient sound level rises also,like traffic noise etc .Hope that assures you. I've done a bit of Barbel fishing over the last half century,so I know about their condition etc.
