Your demo here sold me on the Super Reverb!! Reason being I have a Barber and the exact same R8 Plain Top and wanted more clarity then I was getting from my Marshall. So I saw this, then went out and got a Super Reverb and love it. Great demo, and awesome tone brother.
Dude, It's so cool to hear someone playing a song that you just learned. That bonamassa tune kicks ass. I play it with barre chords. I learned somthing new. Play it with open chords! Sounds fantastic. I also own a direct drive. It's great for heavy blues rock or blues or anything! Rock onl
That R8 sounds great man. Did you just get lucky with that one or did it take you awhile to go through some LP's before you found it? Is it a plain top or? It's hard to tell from the vids. Anyway...you sound killer as always. You like the SR? What year is it may I ask? Thanks Dan
New day yesterday huh? Nicely done on the Jethro Tull. Never heard anyone else pull out that riff. Its a good one. How do you like that Super Reverb? Sounds good to me. Thinking of getting one to go with my 335. All I have is a Vox AC4 right now, Which is a GREAT bedroom amp. That Barber might be the pedal I'm looking for too.
@JimisGuy You already got it!! Sweet! Glad it worked out. The Super's probably my favorite amp. So simple. Fantastic clean. Takes pedals well. The Deluxe Reverb's a close second, but the Super is just a bit more of a full sound. The Deluxe wins, though, as far as portability goes....
@skydog46 Hey Dan, thanks. Glad you like it. I guess I just got lucky with the R8 (plain top, btw). It was a college graduation gift from my dad. I did buy a washed cherry R9 recently, but its tone is noticeably brighter than this R8 (although the R9's neck pickup sounds beautifully clear). I really like the Super Reverb (although, as you know, the Deluxe Reverb's tone is equally awesome, and it doesn't break your back!). It's a 2007, and I find that it sounds fuller than a Deluxe Reverb.
@LesterPaul01 Hmm, not sure. To be honest, I haven't cranked my Deluxe Reverb up that loud except for a couple times. My first DRRI had a messed up volume pot that would increase way too abruptly and break up too soon. I just got another DRRI which is normal, but now that I'm living in an apartment, I haven't been able to crank it up. I wonder if the fartiness has to do with the speaker flubbing.
@tehorix789 Thanks for the comment. I will be checking my speaker out. I believe the deluxe is the most modified amp out there. Players change the speakers the tubes and turn it into a frankestein's monster.LOL.
@tehorix789 By the way, make sure to try the Direct Drive in both of the channels, normal and vibrato. For a Marshall-type tone, I put it through the normal channel. That's how it was in this video.
@LesterPaul If it "farts out" at high volume it reflects on the speaker. Jensens sound good until you push them to break up territory and then they get the "farty" sound. Celestions are the only speaker I have found that sound incredible at higher volumes. I have a Celestion Blue in my cabinet and it is amazing and shines as you get louder. (Hope this helps)
@tehorix789 Hey you cats dig the deluxe so maybe you can help me with mine. It' sounds good at low volumes but when I pass 5 or so it kinda sounds, for the lack of a better word. Farty. LOL. What could that be? thanks.
