My favorite style of scent! So many varieties! Some of my favorites are CaD, Clubguy, Fine American, WTF Vintage Barbershop, and Seville.

Tabac has been my go-to since I began shaving over half a century ago. Manly, classy men in my world used it and it has remained a manly, classy scent. I was disappointed when they switched from tallow but it still has an excellent lather and the scent has not deviated from what I associate with it.

Love this video. Barbershop scents are my favorite. PAA Hotel Cecil and Sterling Barbershop are my 2 favorites. Good Vibrations is on my radar and my PAA wish list.

The thing is, may soaps that have these great scents like Tabac, Fine, Old Spice, etc. have change their formulas (recently and over the years) thus changing their wonderful classic scents. I'm glad Doug and other artisans are around to keep these great barbershop scents going.

A very underrated barbershop scented soap is Razor Emporium's house brand barbershop shave soap. It's my favorite of the half-dozen or so barbershop scents I have, and the soap quality is fantastic, too.

Wasn’t a fan of Razor Emporium’s barbershop scent, Stirlings says it for me as far as scent goes but it irritated my skin.

The primary barbershop scents come from the fougere family of fragrances, but they may also be classified as musks or chypres. A good example of a fougere that is a barbershop, for example, would be YSL's Rive Gauche Pour Homme and that one I believe a lot of people compare to CaD by PAA, and it has this old school shaving cream scent. A musk that's considered a barbershop scent would be Chanel's Platinum Egoiste, which I believe is also considered a fougere sometimes. A chypre barbershop scent would be Chanel Pour Monsieur, also Polo Green would be a very popular example. Basically, barbershop scent is a very loose term that like you say, is meant to incorporate the smells of the barbershop. So, shaving creams, talcs, aftershaves, even barbacide. There's no shortage of barbershop style fragrances and aromas out there just because it's such a general term.

Hi Mark, You're right, not easy to describe barbershop scent As far as I'm concerned, Tabac doesn't remind me of the barbershop at all but Clubman Pinaud, absolutely. The association of Proraso and Floid transport me to Italy where I lived several years of my adolescence. Nice vid, i love PAA scents.

Very nice video. Two wonderful choices not in your video are B&M Seville and WSP barbershop. There is also an orphan PAA scent named "ie" that is a beautiful summer barbershop.

here in mexico is a soap used by almost all barbershops called " noble " cheap pucks , with lavender scent , I was using these pucks for years beside tabac and speick , very nice lavender scent and very cheap , around 12 dollar for 10 pieces

for me , the barbershop scent of stirling is the best one , since it reminds my youth, I have other ones , such as cad from Phoenix , tabac is nice but was not used in the barbershops in my country belgium, maybe tabac and old spice are the soaps used by our fathers, therefor I do also like very much these scents , The soap I remember was a stick with dark-brown hard shaving soap , which my uncle , who a beermaker is , did bring a huge box with 144 pieces from France , where he had a friend , artisan making these soaps , now to day , this artisan is not existing anymore .

I have Diver Down and love it! Plan on acquiring Droid Black and Tabac. To me, few things say barbershop like Pinaud's talc, Clubman and Lilac Vegetal. One of those few is William's. I know, I I I'm weird!

I acquired Fine American Blend around the time I did this video. I omitted due to it being the original tallow formula...and/or perhaps I did not yet have it on hand..cannot remember. Which comes closet to FAB? Off the top of my head, I'd really can't say. I'd have to do a side by side. Still, Fine American blend is a scent all its own. Additionally, I have the original tallow formula which is rather scarce. I'd have to compare the newer formula. Not sure, but the scent could have changed.

I have read that there are distinctive barbershop scent signatures namely, American, London, Italian, Spanish. The differences elude me. Floyd blue or black would presumably be reminiscent of a Spanish barbershop. Pinaud clubman would capture a common American barbershop scent. The other two I have no reference for.

My top 3 Barbershop scented soaps are 345soap Co Fresh Cut Fade, PAA CaD and WSP Barbershop. They are all a little different. I think I have a total of 15 different barbershop scented soaps.

the barbershop soap from stirling has the talc scent , and long time ago the barbershops were using talc powder after the shave , maybe therefor this scent is a real barbershop scent

i have the PAA Clubguy, Good Vibrations and Droid Black and like 'em all. But the aftershave/colognes can be really potent, and I made the mistake of using the Good Vibrations as a splash. I swear it got stronger as the day went on and I was getting a bit overwhelmed. Won't do that again, lol.

Buck, I cannot say as I have yt to try the Tabac after shave. Be aware, though, that Tabac changed their formula from tallow-based to non-tallow. As some wet shavers have reported, there appears to be no change in scent.

The best barber shop scent and soap as far as performance is Oleo Soapworks Irving Park. They have a matching aftershave as well. Scent is like Razorock American Barber but closer to YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme on which it is based.

The most barbershoppy of all the barbershop scents I have tried is Taylor of Old Bond Street's Mr. Taylor's. I think it's only available in a cream, though. 100% barbershop. 0% other things. It's ultra-traditional so it lacks the pizzaz of the one's you showcased but if the fate of the world depended on blindfolding someone then convincing them you've arrived at a real-life barbershop, Mr. Taylor's is the one I'd choose.

CaD doesn’t smell like a Barbershop scent to me. Not enough talc. Must be a regional thing. ClubGuy, Droid Black & Barbershop by Stirling are more up my alley. Rockwell Razors sells a Barbershop scented soap & aftershave I really like too. It’s probably my favorite Barbershop scent. Great video 👍

@toddd7444 0 seconds ago In these Inflationary Times. HERE IS AN EASY WAY TO DO IT MY FRIENDs Use any hard Bar Soap, Tallow or Glycerin based Soaps out there? To fit in any Mugs or Cups? Like" (Mitchells' Wool Fat or Arko Sticks. Just to name a few of them?) You can mix and match your old Soaps? Cut up the soap on a paper plate, pour your soap chunks with the shavings from the Paper Plate into a Mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, and microwave your soap.
