The hubby and his best friend will occasionally sing the jingle to another Barbie rival: Fashion Candy. "Blonde hair, red hair... FASHION CANDY. Brown, with disco slacks... FASHION CANDY!" LOL
The Tammy doll advert really threw me because when I saw her face, I thought 'oh its Sindy, why are they calling her Tammy?!' Great that you're able to be up and make a new video, much appreciated 😀
As a kid in the early 70s I can attest that Crissy and Velvet were super popular dolls to have. I also have my sister’s Tiffany Taylor doll and found that 1:4 BJD clothes fit her.
I craved an Ideal Velvet as a 5-year-old and never got one, so adult me bought like 20 of them on eBay. I've got them displayed and I sewed them groovy outfits with Simplicity patterns. I love them. In regards to Tuesday Taylor, I had the one with the swivel scalp when I was a kid. The hair was totally verkakte because the quality was so bad that it kind of unraveled and frizzed, and the swivel gimmick was bad too. I don't blame you for not wanting one.
@@Thedollswitness awe, I wouldn't mind watching just a little longer vid as long as it's not an hour because I tend to fall asleep 😂 if it goes on to to long.
I really enjoyed this, I have come across many of these various dolls through the years & because they aren't what I collect , I didn't know very much about them . Thank you for another awesome segment ! Cheers Matt Sky*
Friends had Tammy and girls I babysat had Chrissy and Velvet. Remember Tiffany Taylor and Dusty. Thanks for sharing knowledge about some of the competition
Oh my goodness what a fun video! I love dolls from the 60s and 70s!!!!! I totally agree with you Tuesday Taylor is beautiful. I have two Tiffany Taylor's but would love to get a Tuesday Taylor one day too. I also love Tammy and Crissy. And don't get me started on some of their less popular dolls, they're cool too. Boy why did Ideal have to go out of business!
OMG you really brought back childhood memories that this Baby Boomer forgot all about! By the way I may have a Tammy with my old Barbie’s in the cellar! My mom saved my old toy box that I forgot about! God’s knows what condition that stuff is in! 😂 I just started collecting recent dolls too! Thank you for this!💕💕🫶🏾
Tuesday Taylor is my weakness next to Barbie... Her outfits are so hard to find, because they have gotten mixed in with piles of old Barbie clothes most of the time. Although I will not agree with you on the rotating scalp Tuesday, she is my favorite... why? I have around 80 Tuesday's... the Super Model (the walker one) and Beauty Queen (the orange bathing suit), their bodies are not nearly as good as the ones with the rotating scalps. Beauty Queen is a hollow body, non-articulated doll with pretty cheap hair, she was actually their budget Tuesday Taylor with those orange magnet shoes so she could stand on that metal stand you got with her. Regular and Suntan Tuesday, their bodies are amazing, her arms are rubber covered, but jointed elbows and even jointed wrist. The normal ones also had rooted eyelashes and gorgeous face paints. Tuesday though had some big ass feet, LOL, she can not wear Barbie shoes, so when you buy them make sure she comes with her original shoes, because also Ideal didn't make many outfits for her with additional shoes... I can only think of two, both came with boots, a pair of black and a pair of white. It took me years to find her Penthouse and her Vacation Home, paid a ridiculous amount, but totally worth it!
Thanks for another great demo! You make the presentation very interesting. Even when you might be feeling like death warmed over lightly!!! I never liked that damned Dusty doll I thought she was UGLY. The wretched doll looked like some one sneered her all over with coppertone QT & let her bake in the hot sun for a month. This is just my very humble opinion.
I had the Tammy doll, my mom made her tons of beautiful clothes...mine had the shoulder flip hair style and the heavy crown braid. I loved her so much...but lost her in traveling around. My dad and mom made me a 3 room doll house for her. We spent many happy summers playing.
I have a leggy also just bought one on eBay also I've noticed that the vintage barbie original closes are worth sometimes more then the dolls these days anyways man your content is just fu__king fun to watch peace ✌
Loved this! You are getting me back into fashion dolls. I was obsessed as a kid & later in the late 90s/early 2000s. I ended updonated my more modern boxed dolls to Ronald McDonald house. I'm only regretting it a little, as they were more modern at the time. Now I am thinking of digging out my childhood collection and collection of "makeover" dolls. I also have a small collection of the bigger 1950s fashion dolls--the cheaper miss revlon knockoffs. They need some loving care. 😄
That is awesome! Thank you! Yeah as collectors our interest/obsession tends to come in big waves. Some years I’ll add tons of new pieces and others I just enjoy what I have. lol ❤️❤️
Tammy is definitely my favourite! I have quite a few and I'm forever randomly singing her jingle (it's catchy!) I was born too late to have any of the dolls in this video as a kid, but I've got some Tressys and Tuesday Taylors as well as my Tammys now! I did let my Dustys go, though, and kind of wish I hadn't (actually, I think the ones I had weren't technically Dusty-they were the Jenny dolls released by Toltoys in Australia for Qantas), but that's part of collecting too! Anyway, really enjoyed this video, and I hope you feel better soon!
Dusty has the kind of face that would haunt my nightmares. Also I feel that companies tried too many gimmicks with dolls - the hair stuff and the walking and the moving - Barbie kept it simple which won over in the end.
I too am impressed by "Leggy". Her exaggerated elongated and slim look, by some measures, makes more sense than Barbie. It's more like how a lot of high adult fashion artists idealize model's bodies for fashion most of the time, with more emphasis on thinness and height than cures. From a flexible play perspective, the slim and log form also makes this doll one of the most forgiving for fitting into other similar dolls' clothing, even if the body shape isn't the same. You aren't going to get much slimmer than that, and, even if many dresses are too short, they'd still get on her form, particularly with the slimmer shoulders and lack of giant plastic bust that can make it a pain to swap clothing between, say, the small-chested Bratz and the bustier Barbie doll. Body image-wise, I'm sure she's no better than Barbie, but I'd like to see this doll in Barbie's place just because that clothing interchangeability between branded dolls really gives more play value and allows kids to go beyond normal toy scripts. It's better creative fun and would be so much cheaper to have a doll that can be made to fit nearly all doll clothing in an entire doll height range category.
Awww..........I hope you feel better soon!! If its any consolation you were HOT before you got sick. I absolutely loved the Leggy dolls as a kid. I only had the blonde doll though and was always frustrated at the lack of clothing for them. SO many fashion dolls came out in the 60's and 70's and I liked a lot of them............
You forgot Miss Suzette by Uneeda Doll Company and her successor Wendy. They are very collectible today, actually pretty and well made dolls for the times. Both were straight legged and non posing bodies like early Barbie. I believe Miss Suzette came out in 1962.
I had Dusty and Nugget, also Tuesday Taylor with the 2 hair colors. Have you seen Tuesday's penthouse? It's so cool - I think you'd love it. Tuesday has such a sweet face. Poor Dusty - I always thought she was an ugly tomboy (like me lol) but found her body far superior to Barbie. The early Barbies had such bizarre, inhuman proportions. Dusty had a lovely athletic, strong, yet still feminine body, that looked very natural, and her posability was everything. Tuesday (like Darci) was just enough different in body type to make it difficult to find Barbie clothes to fit, and both had different feet.
I love Tuesday’s penthouse! The thing about Barbie’s body was that it was designed to make sixth scale outfits look less bulky, without having to use fabrics that were paper thin, but I get what you’re saying. Kids can see that and be confused about realistic human proportions. I also love Dusty and Darci, with their focus less on fashion and more on athleticism. 🙌🏻🔥❤️❤️
I remember ALL of those knock-offs! The Leggy reminds me of the Apple Bonkers from the animated "Yellow Submarine." Didn't have any. The only detours from Barbie I ever did as a child was Dawn and Chrissy (with pretty, growin' hair) 😊. Later my grown-up friends got me into Jem and the Holograms, but only because they loved to pose them in nasty spoof poses. I first learned how to sew clothing from Chrissy patterns by Simplicity.
Dusty has long haunted my nightmares. When Tan Mom hit the headlines a decade or so ago, I thought "my God... Real life Dusty!" Are you familiar with Darci? She was a legit great fashion doll by Kenner whose run should have been longer. Maybe an idea for a future video? Finally, Covid is going around. Maybe test yourself for it, because fever and chills sounds like you could have it, though I'll hope not.
Hope you feel better Dusty is just scary but I do have Dusty and Skye in my collection as well as Tuesday Taylor I also have Taylor Jones the AA version nrfp I had Tuesday Taylor when I was a kid and the Tuesday Taylor penthouse which I’ve replaced and love love thanks for the vid takes me back in time…..
I loved this video! I have a few Tiffany Taylor dolls & a Tuesday Taylor doll. I also have a Dusty doll, but I was never a fan of her Facesculpt. Darci was my favorite Barbie competitor doll from this era
I had a Dusty doll as a child, I liked her a lot, but as an adult, ewwh, no. I also had Tuesday Taylor, the rotating dark/light hair version. When all is said and done I still like Barbie best.
I love this video, so many dolls I have to add to my collection now! Dusty truly is an icon...the way I hollered when you said beauty is subjective lol!! As a bi chick myself I really love Dusty and her 'friend'. I'm so glad I found your channel, I'll be binging your videos all night! : )
Aw thank you!! I have many stories running through my head about dusty and sky and their life together. Lots of macrame planters, homemade kitty litter…lol they have fun.
@@Thedollswitness omg absolutely!! If I ever get them both I'd love to set them up in the Barbie country camper from the 70s! Dusty would love hiking while Sky can make a scrapbook of their vacation, maybe press some wildflowers..the possibilities are endless haha!
My mother still has both her Velvet and Crissy dolls from when she was a kid. They've seen better days - their hair needs a serious washing - but it just shows that she loved them very much.
My first Barbie was Suerstar Barbie ❤❤ One of my best friends had a Dusty in her doll collection. I also LOVED playing with my SUNTAN Tuesday Taylor. I used to put her by the back window of the station wagon to tan during the summer. ☀️☀️☀️
I collect most of these dolls that you showed here and glad that someone is giving them some online love. (I need to do more of that too! 😜) BTW- Tressy was also made by Palitoy in the UK and was quite successful there throughout the 60's and 70's (The final 1979 version is super cute and looks more like a friend of Sindy's!) ... She was also made in other countries including France (Bella), Germany (Schildkröt) and Canada (Regal.) Are Dustys popular now??? I bought several and the horse Nugget back when you couldn't GIVE them away! I should sell mine then, or least do a video on them as mine are just stored away for the most part.
I’m happy to do it! Thanks for the additional info! My knowledge regarding European releases isn’t nearly as extensive. lol and yeah, I haven’t checked eBay for Dusty’s current value, but I still can’t imagine it’s all that high. lol ❤️❤️
Thanks so much. I always learn something new from you. I have my original Tammy and I also have two Tammy clones. But Barbie is still my favorite fashion doll. Hope you feel better real soon Honey!
