FACTS - The reason why so many of us millenials have commitment issues is because Barbie and Ken broke up on feb 14 2004, valentines day. They got back again on valentines day, but in the year 2011! No, this isn't a joke. At the time Mattel actually announced that Barbie and her boy-toy had decided to “spend some quality time - apart.” Also that the break-up was Barbie's idea. Later she also dated Blaine Gordon for a while, who was Summer's brother. Summer is one of Barbie's friends.
There's a lot of juice and content if the movie was to have sequels!
Oh and by the way, the story goes that, Ken met Barbie in 1961 on the set of their first TV commercial together. The couple fell in love and started dating.

@@matthewb9621 never said the lore was consistent or that there wasn’t multiple versions but it is part of her lore over the years. Barbie the character has a full name Barbie Millicent Robert and has grand parents and sisters and all that, even Ken had a brother named Tommy and some friends and relatives. they change with different versions or get retconned but it’s like saying heman or transformers are just a toy and has no lore behind them. It’s not really supposed to be taken that seriously it’s just for fun and a lot of the lore of the character has been thrown out the door recently in favour of every doll being Barbie but Barbie did have characters with back stories that stayed relatively consistent.

They really don’t if you ever watched Barbie life in the dream house it’s camp as hell. This is really just lore they give out about all doll brands for fun. Cleo and duece from monster high broke up twice and a bratz doll came out as a lesbian during pride month etc it’s not new and it’s not really that deep.

All toy companies give their dolls detailed life stories to make them more real as it gets kids interested and invested in the characters. It’s literally a promotional strategy to get kids to want to buy the toys and keep buying new ones. It’s the reason most toys these days have tv shows because it keeps kids interested in the toys

See that is not my reason for that lol I didn’t even know that had broken up. I only played with Barbies when I was like 5-7 years old and after that it was mostly brats dolls when I was 9-12 years old and like 1 my scene doll I got from my aunt, and a bunch of these really cute porcelain baby dolls she used to get me since I was little. Barbie needed some other sausage, so broke up with Beta male ken for a few years, then after the sausage fest with the Chad’s and Tyrone’s out there, went back to nice guy Ken to be used as the ATM machine.😂
