$16USD for an outfit seems pricey, but if you compare it to Etsy prices, it's pretty reasonable. Don't scream that Etsy is higher quality because it's handcrafted- I know some items are, but many just seem average quality (judging by videos). These seem a bit better than play line outfits.
I would just sew the little bow onto a see through rubber band instead of untying it - mainly because it’s such a small piece of ribbon, so it might be too hard to retie it later. Honestly, I think this product is WAY over priced - I personally have no intention of getting it and plan to just make my own versions, but I do like the pajama outfit. Some of the issues with wanting better quality for that price point I agree with but there is no way they could possibly have hemmed that scalloped edge, it’s way too tiny. If they had left that detail out and had a straight edge then it definitely would have needed to be hemmed but there was really no way to hem it and keep that detail. As someone who sews, I feel like a lot of things are very difficult to translate to such a small scale and have the fabrics behave the way they would in a full size garment.
If we as collectors want better quality items from Mattel (more real fabrics, less Velcro, more details and actual designs), we have to know that we are going to pay more than play line. Everyone has been screaming since they saw $50 on many of the items from the movie but to me it says you weren't really paying attention to collector level Barbie items before. Pretty much all of the celebrity Black label dolls have been $50 or more. This is a good price for three complete outfits from the movie. Mattel also just released Barbie Style Fashion sets for $25 each. How much do you think a seamstress makes an hour for sewing clothes in 1:6 scale form. Play line items are cheaper because a machine makes them, when you start paying more people.... prices increase.
@@disneydprince, if they are raising prices and not actually paying people for the extra work, that would make me boycott Mattel. I want better and I am ok paying for it if someone is making a living but if it's just corporate greed.... nah!
I personally beleive this whole line is overpriced. I won't be getting any of them. I'm pretty sure the people making these clothing items are paid hourly. They don't get a raise based on the items they make. I wonder if they are even union employees. If not, I'm sure Mattel is not compensating them fairly whether they are making playline or Black label doll clothes. And that is a shame. If i'm wrong, please correct me. I would love to know.
@@4everArtista, I'm not saying they are making more based on the Collector level, I'm saying more fine detailing increases production time. Sewing details like snaps or buttons, extra pieces of clothing, extra clothing layers, lining and even the type of stitching can lead to more production time. Hourly employees therefore work more hours on those items due to the detailing. It is much easier and quicker to sew on velcro than it is to sew a button or a snap. Just the ties on the pink gingham and blue sets took more time than using a piece of ribbon would have. Patterned fabric is harder than a solid color because you have to match up the pattern on each piece for a better quality finish. It makes sense to me that the pink gingham set doesn't have a seam because stitching scallops are hard even on human sized clothing. Something as simple as the hair ribbon had to be sewn, finished off and pressed. Even if they outsource their workers, the company they outsource from knows these details raise cost and charge accordingly Did it cost Mattel $50 to make these items? No, they are definitely making their profit. But did it cost more than playline items? I would say yes.

These fashions are very beautiful and something I was waiting for since Fashion Avenue, however as much as I welcome the idea of different body types it is way harder to find a fitting wardrobe for all of them. I would love to put these on Repros or Vintage dolls but alas no (except for the pyjama). I am fine with the prices considering that we must spend around 75 Euro which is almost 82 USD but the is there except for a few minor issues. Thanks a lot for the informative review.
