I was very inspired by the costumes in Barbie. I am currently working on a pink gingham sundress & matching picture hat as we speak to wear at my next viewing of the movie!

I was sceptical about he film, thankfully the trailers didn’t actually reveal too much! It was fun, self-aware and an excellent social commentary - but oh, the clothes! They were stunning! I don’t think there was one outfit Barbie wore that I didn’t think, I need that!

watching now that I had a chance to see-- I love all the source gems you dug up. I recognized a couple as imitations of actual previous designs but I didn't realize how heavy it went on that. I too loved that dance sequence the best. Isn't it fun when actors come up with these little traits that just work so well for their character? I can only imagine this design /production team had many, many, sleepless nights.

The standout costumes in my book are the pink western outfit on Margot Robbie and the all-denim matching ensemble on Ryan Gosling. I put these two are up there with Marilyn Monroe's pink Travilla dress from _Gentlemen Prefer Blondes_ and Judy Garland's blue and white Adrian gingham dress from _The Wizard of Oz._

Honestly, the branded Chanel purse and necklace disrupted the fantasy land that the movie was creating for me. I wasn't sure why a high fashion brand would exist in barbieland and I wish they could have picked different accessories without the Chanel logos 🤔

I understand what you're saying. But over the years Barbie has had the opportunity to work with many famous fashion designers including Chanel, Christian Dior, Ralph Lauren, Bob Mackie, Versace, and Yves Saint Laurent. These dolls were mostly marketed for adult collectors. So real fashion designers have been a part of Barbie's history, and the Chanel ensemble in the film is just a brief nod to that.

hi Heidi, thank you for this well done video. I just saw the movie last night and I loved it (I had to see what the conservatives were losing their mind about and I am so glad I did!). It was a fun movie, and I needed it.
