80's/90's Barbies are always the best. My Favorite was Cool Time Barbie from 88. I still have all of these dolls. Hollywood Hair, Glitter Beach, Sun Sensations, Totally Hair and Wedding Midge. I can't remember if she came with a garter either though she may have. I even have the doll Robin was talking about I believe she was All Star Barbie. They'll never match the ones we grew up with i don't think. Then again we are probably biased haha. I was the girl that had every doll and set for some of the lines of the early years like Beach Blast. Always a new beach look to come up with or some adventure to go into. I miss those days. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

Clawdeena actually did a really good break down...Mattel lost the Disney princesses which was a significant money maker, kids play with Barbies at younger ages and thus stop earlier. I wish they’d put more into the adult specific series though

I have something to say. Here is the thing about today’s barbies - I honestly don’t think that the kids today will have the nostalgia for their barbies the way we have nostalgia for 90s barbies. I think barbies today are made to be disposable. Also - that haul was a score. I’m jealous.

I worked next to one of the first shops that opened in Arlington tx. Once upon a child is Platos closet sister store. I worked there for 2 days in 2003 and got fired for a no call no show because I partied too hard the night before. I was a stupid 21 yr old😂

Thanks for this nostalgic video ! U can totally tell a 90s barbies compared to barbies produced now in 2021! I had that mermaid 🧜‍♀️ barbie too and still do and I can tell that barbies DiD feel heavier . Like they were made of rubber and not just light cheap plastic . They had nice detailed form fitting heavy layered clothing as well , NOT the cheap printed on 1 layer fabric we get now for a 20 dollar doll !! What happened to Mattel ?! I miss the 80-90s and some 2000 barbies !😢 I MISS those damn back snaps in barbies !! Lol 😆

There are several here in Phoenix. Great! I clean up thrift store dolls and want to give them to children but didn't know where to go to do so. I'm excited. I have boxes of cleaned thrift store dolls that I can give to children, as well as Barbie cars, horses, etc. 🙂. I'll give them to the store. 🙂

I adore the older barbies , I drive 35 mins to lake worth Florida so that I can go to my favorite thrift store , world thrift they always have bags and bags of vintage barbies I’ll get 4 in a bag clothed dolls for $7.99 and then the bags of nude barbies are 4 in a bag for $3.99 I always find something special there. I always also find vintage 1980s cabbage patch kids in clothes for $5.99 and I find Disney animators you name it they have a huge toy selection

To answer your Hot Wheels question, a lot of adults actually buy Hot Wheels for themselves. There are at least ten adult collectors I can think of who frequently come into the store I work in looking for new Hot Wheels and Matchbox for their private collections. Barbie's main demographic is still small children, but more and more adult collectors are starting to get back into Barbie, so hopefully someday soon we'll start getting more high quality Barbies.

I don't remember owning any of those dolls but I do have some dolls from the 90's. The quality was so much better back then. Gotta say yay and props to you for mentioning Trixie Mattel I love her and had the pleasure of meeting her in person. As for Drew Carey (again yay for the trip down memory lane), I still have the Drew Carey and Mimi Bobeck dolls in box.

I had hollywood hair barbie i loved her. I wish I could go back and not donate my barbies cuz i regreted afterwards. PS In 2020, Mattel sold $1.35 billion worth of Barbie dolls and acessories and this was their best sales growth in two decades So in otherwords they aren't making as much as they did in the 90s for the quality to be as great as it was then

I think Mattel makes more money with those “disposable” type barbies. Parents just keeps buying new diversity -the fashion packs cost close to the cheap dolls. Geez they don’t even have names. How can you not have a NAME? Anonymous is not Barbie and kids like to collect just like adults! Give them names MATTEL! Give them personalities make me like them!

Barbie needs a hole new reboot . It’s time that barbie got a new face mold it’s been 8 years with the Millie face it’s time barbie got another face lift . They need to stop with Chelsea dolls go back to kelly cuz she’s cutier skipper and Stacy need reboots faces and made to move body’s . Mattel needs to put Quality back into they’re dolls maybe do a teen skipper reboot with skipper and friends wearing trendy insta baddi clothes . Mattel is trying to hard to be kid friendly when they need to start a little controversy again . Mattel has the money to make Quality dolls idk why they’re not . I hope the monster hug reboot has Quality . They say that collectors only make 5% of dolls sales and I call bullshit on that claim

Look. ! What Mattel needs to do is add detail to their clothing and accessories . Stop giving us this flat 1 layered clothing and simple plastic shoes ,accessories in 1 simple color that is mass produced , no thought or creativity into and is found in multiple other barbies sets. They should really take a hint and copy the homework from what Mga is doing to their doll lines ! Omg lol - I love the fashion and accessories they are coming out with lately ! So nostalgic with the past yet also very current and edgy in style of what is popular and cool ! I’m sure Mattel is playing towards a younger generation but who is really buying the dolls for their own kids and doll collectors ? It’s the adults ! And I’m sure when a kid sees a cool omg doll and Barbie side by side - they will def pick the more creative one !
