The lyrics and Barbra’s beautiful voice give me goosebumps. I remember singing this song when I was alone on the beach as a child. looking at the blue skies, the roaring waves of the tide . I was filled with exhilaration , awe and happiness. As I now grieve for my beautiful Mom Ann Marie , although my heart aches and I cry every day. I thank my Mama for giving me the gift of life , until I’m reunited with her . God Bless you all ❤
@@luckysmusic3922 she was a beautiful human being, inside and out. Thank you for your kind words. She loved music, it helps me feel close to her writing on here .

What about the last note of “Papa Can You Hear Me” from Yentl or the last note of “Don’t Rain On My Parade” from Funny Girl? She was asked once how she can hold a note for so long and she simply said “because I want to”. As a singer myself I’m like Barbra dear, you first have to have the ability to do so, which not a lot of people can do like her and Andrea Bocelli.
@@trippytrellis7033 For sure. I thought to myself after I left my comment that I mislabeled the song there at the end where she’s on the boat. It was called “A Piece of Sky” and in it she asks “papa can you hear me”. I intended to come and correct my comment here today and got busy. When the camera pulls away from the back of the ship and she keeps singing for forever, I am still wowed to this day. I saw Yentyl in the theater new when I was in college in the early 80’s.
When I watch this movie, it's 1970 all over again, like stepping back in time. I was blown away by it when I was a kid. I thought it to be the most inventive, glorious, magical thing I'd ever seen. First Babs movie I ever saw. Been a fan ever since!
Barbra Streisand is among a rarity in music; she joins the likes of singers like Ethel Merman and Judy Garland who could really belt out a song and still be able to break your heart with just a whisper. Streisand is the greatest female vocalist of my lifetime.

One of the best recordings ever. Do you feel like every time you hear her singing this you've just been realigned? I feel such energy and electricity running through me as she sings this song that I don't need a chiropractic readjustment. Remarkable.
l have loved ever since I was a poor kid living in the inner city projects in the 70's. She brought something beautiful to all the ugliness that surrounded me veryday back then. For that I shall be forever grateful.
There aren't enough superlatives to describe Barbra's incredible voice, especially at this point in her life. Her work all through the Sixties and early Seventies was, in my opinion, her best work. Her voice was at its peak, and this movie truly showcases all she's got. Brava, Barbra!
I remember seeing thus when I was a kid and I have always loved it. I woukd sing it every chance i got but, was told to be quiet. I love her voice. It's simply pure, crisp and beautiful. I've always tired to emulate her and I'm good but, not Barbara good. I love it! I could watch this movie and hear her sing 100x's a day.
Oddly this is the only Streisand movie I own, and it's not for a love of Babs but rather the film itself is profound and charming. (And yes the costumes are exquisite.)
When I was a little boy my mom had the funny girl original Broadway cast album and we wore it out. She told us that Streisand was going to be a huge star one day. She was right.
Streisand has always blown away all other singers..and this shows why. She Is A Phenomenon. And we are blessed to be witnessing such incredible talet in a single humna being.
One of the greatest vocal performances in movie musicals...just thrilling and transporting. Let us all not forget the sparkling, masterful arrangement by the late great Nelson Riddle. His work on this film complemented her talent to perfection.
Still get goosebumps after watching this movie hundreds of time... What a beautiful singer Barbra Streisand is, WOW ❤.. I do love many, and have a ton of favorites but there is only ONE FAVORITE SINGER, and that's been her place since I first heard her sing #1 BARBRA STREISAND ❤🌷
The singing on this song, and on the entire soundtrack may be the greatest singing Streisand has ever done in her life. If there is better, I'd like to know what it is. No other singer has ever sung like this an no one ever will. The quality of singing is beyond anything any of us will likely hear in our lifetimes. Thrilling!!!
The last musical that Barbra Streisand did was "Yentl" in 1983--30 years and six movies ago. In 2006, Jennifer Hudson won an Oscar for "Dreamgirls"--and she hasn't done a musical since (Has it really been almost 7 years???). I don't understand why these talented vocalists don't make more musicals. These showstoppers are so powerful on film.
@@homersimpson7068 Because dear..... sadly 😥 these people are old and their voices have faded. A sad fact of life. Let's just enjoy have all they've done in the past and try to remember and respect them fondly not for the old people they are today, but for the true showstoppers we all know they once were before life came along and stole it away. Amen .🙏🏿
Undeniably, the greatest arrangement of that song (Nelson Riddle). Also, it was tailored made to her style and singing ability at the time. No one could have sung that song like she did and no one ever has. DJK
I think that is why Evergreen is so horrendously difficult to do at all, much less well. Barbra wrote it to showcase her magnificence. Very, very few have the talent to even approach that.
Barbra is incredible but Nelson Riddle was a master of tailoring arrangements to fit particular voices. I’m sure he was ecstatic to be able to write arrangements for her.
I was in the navy in 1970, drove out to Mission Valley (I think that's what it was called) two days in a row to watch this movie. Just magic, and a happy story.
@@objetty11 I think Cinema 21 had the largest screen in San Diego back in the day...I saw this movie at the Vogue Theater in Chula Vista...long time ago...
How can ANY human being hold a note for so long like that one at the end, and keep it so perfectly on key, melodic and expressive of pure joy? The woman must be from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Krypton.
The Best female singer entertainer on the planet a True gift from God!!! I heard her when I was 13 I still am Mesmerized I Adore her #1 My All time Favorite
I love this movie, and Funny Girl. They bring back great memories of watching them with my mum when me and my sisters were young. I haven't seen them on tv in Australia for several years
This woman did and does so many things with her voice. I was born in 45 and I remember when "Funny Girl" was playing on Broadway. Always a sold out performance. Just to hear her sing was worth the price of admission.
This song was so amazing to me as a young boy when I first got to play piano for my 6th grade class singing it. I love the song, the movie and the wonderful memory of an wide-eyed, innocent love for musicals!
I'm fixated on this film, it was a strange offering that met with middling success, critically and commercially back in 1970. But it was somehow still a big picture regardless and off course it was this song that catapulted it into the annuls of film history. Reflect and bathe in the warmth and nostalgia of what was cinema back then, as it was all about to drastically change direction in favour of the new hard hitting style of movie making to come.
!WOW!!! she is feeling, acting every word. incredibly beautiful. she is my favorite singer! thank you Barbra, with love to an amazing person who has lead many paths for many causes!
Barbara's voice has long inspired me! That long ago time when singing was singing 🎶 beautiful songs that still your heart pushes forth confidence unimaginable ✨️💃🏼🙌🏻💞

This song is a mantra for my heart. The movie let me know I wasn't the only one. Wow it is a new day it is a new dawn. With every moment. What a joy it is to be who I am? With my unique vision of possibility.
WOW! I saw this movie in midtown Manhattan with my roommates when it came out, and I forgot how terrific this number is! Thanks so much for this great post!
As a kid, my mom used to take me to see Barbra Streisand, films; this was one of the greatest. (Funny Girl, On A Clear Day, For Pete's Sake, Funny Lady, Hello Dolly, What's Up Doc,) All the best
LET ME PREFACE MY UPCOMING COMMENT WITH THIS BIT OF INFO. I am an old skool R&B lover who once sang in R&B groups, and this type of music is nowhere near my style. But ANY SONG sung by this woman is an immediate favorite of mine; and although I am a latecomer to her fantastic voice, there is no doubt in my mind that this is the greatest voice in the history of great voices. Hands Down!
God,she was amazing in her early years starting out in musicals and films.Vocal perfection in each and every song. She gave us many of the best years of her life.I recall a group cover phot shoot, but don't recall the magazine, but it had all the female stars of the decade in a pyramid shape which included jane Fonda i believe,Sally Field,Goldie Hawn, etc. and it had Barbra at the pinnacle top.So appropriate that Barbra is star of stars. She is the superstar of all the stars in Hollywood.
On a clear day Rise and look around you And you'll see who you are On a clear day How it will astound you That the glow of your being Outshines every star You'll feel part of Every mountain, sea, and shore You can hear from far and near A world you've never, never heard before... And on a clear day...On a clear day... You can see forever... And ever... And ever... And ever more. . .

Whenever Barbara Harris fans bitch about Streisand getting this role that Harris created on Broadway, I think of this exulted, inspiring vocal and how it wouldn't exist if any other actress, including Harris, had played Daisy Gamble.
I listen not only to the talents of the singer which are obvious and that I appreciate but to the great hopeful message to humanity which she gives with so much excitement and so much enthusiasm and profound meaning !!
