The sheer quality of the artistic performances was astounding. The show, the theatre, the drama, the performers. Every Olympics since then has tried to surpass this spectacle, with limited success. The climax: the entire audience went silent when they saw what was going to happen in order to light the cauldron; the intentional overshot was hit correctly, igniting the gases of the cauldron, (because if it had landed in the cauldron the rising gases may not have ignited) ; the stadium erupted as one voice. It was so impressive that it was given its own slow-motion instant replay as part of the official record. That arrow now resides at the IOC Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. This is also the legacy of the late Juan Antonio Samaranch: the beginning of professional athletes, global marketing and sponsorship, and the residual value of the lasting improvements to each Olympic city; as well as his son, Juan Antonio, Jr., who will probably become the next President of the IOC in 2025. Looking back at those 90's Opening ceremonies I can't but think that sometimes less is more. Some parts of this opening ceremony like the one starting at the 32nd minute ("Olympic sea") is so breathtaking, that it beats any technological "wows" displayed in Beijing for example. Jaw dropping artistry and fantastic soundtrack.

La mejor ceremonia, el épico e insuperable encendido del pebetero, los temas musicales de Mercury y Caballé, Los 3 tenores, Jose Carreras y Sarah Brightman, el dream team, hasta COBI la mascota de esos juegos tuvo su propia caricatura o serie animada, yo era adolescente y el 91 dejo muchos estragos tragicos en mi vida, cuando senti que ya me despedia de este mundo, toda esa magia de Barcelona '92 me dio impetu de vivir la vida nuevamente, también lo que le precedió, los Paraolímpicos, el escuchar sus testimonios y mensajes fuertes de vida, que la discapacidad No es obstaculo para ser triunfador, me hicieron valorarla y ver que yo estoy completo, sin discapacidades, y resurgí, no podia ir mas abajo a menos que llegase la muerte. Como ser humano, estas olimpiadas me marcaron para siempre

Lo recuerdo como si fuera ayer, me emocionó muchísimo!! El abanderado de España fue el Rey Felipe VI, jovencísimo y guapísimo entonces Principe de Asturias. Vivo en Barcelona y no tiene nada que ver con aquella ciudad olímpica, llena de cultura, alegría, y entusiasmo, teníamos un alcalde que consiguió que Barcelona fuera una ciudad olímpica. La ceremonia inaugural de Barcelona 92' fue solemne. Y es que otras inauguraciones fueron espectaculares, con un despliegue de tecnología impresionante, pero ninguna con la solemnidad de Barcelona. Solo una nación con la riqueza cultural de España podía tocar el corazón del mundo entero.

Es imposible poder comparar estas inauguracion con cualquier otra, el encendido del pebetero, las coreografías, Hercules y el mediterráneo, la calidad de directores musicales como Pons y Moraleda, la sinfonía de Riuyichi Sakamoto, los artistas de talla mundial como Caballe, Kraus, Carreras, Domingo y Berganza . el tino la integración de cultura, la magistral actuación de Cristina Hoyos y esas coreografías con colores vivos dignos de Miro y ese logro diseñado por Corberó, la canción de Mercury con Caballé, La belleza de ciudad que es Barcelona y el espectacular escenario que es Montjuic. SE PUEDE SER MAS EXQUISITO?

Probably my most favourite Olympics opening ceremony of all time. Had the privilege of visiting some of the venues years ago when I visited this stunning city. Gracias Barcelona :-)

No Opening Ceremony in modern Olympic history can rival Barcelona 1992. The artistic originality and aesthetic brilliance remain unique. Not to mention the iconic, unforgettable lighting of the Cauldron. And l have personally been in the Stadium for Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008...Barcelona is without peer, Basta!
