This is insanely cool. I'm really interested in the setup... My guess is you've fed the signal from the barcode scanners into something like Max/MSP, where it's converted into numerical values, which then control oscillator pitch (with the grey scanners) and the cutoff frequency of a low pass filter (with the black one). Do you get a single channel of data from a single scanner? Or can they produce 2 datastreams, like distance from the barcodes and the width of the stripes? I'm guessing only one channel, which is why you've used the black one for the filter control. Really amazing idea and execution, I totally understand if your setup is secret haha. Once you've got the setup though, there are endless possibilities! For example, you could put a bunch of huge barcodes on the side of a train, and have static scanners pointed at them. there could be a few horizontal rows of different stripes, each scanned by an individual scanner. You could use handheld ones to control different effects, like filters/delay etc, while the train moves past and "plays" a polyphonic track which you've transcribed onto the barcodes! I love this project so much, amazing work.
