In this video we take a look at parallel mode for humbuckers, and run through how it changes the sound, compared to the more 'standard' series mode.
We used the Silo humbucker set, loaded into an Ibanez RG to demonstrate the range of tones available.

Running your humbucker set in parallel mode is a great way to add some extra tonal flavours to your guitar, while retaining the pickups' hum-cancelling effect. You can achieve this through a variety of different switching options (such as toggle switches, push-pulls or premium pickup selectors), allowing you to switch between both series and parallel modes.

Great demo. neck parallel on clean is so straty-sounding

Damn I have wanted a Bass VI since I first saw them. Such a cool instrument. I am thinking about doing a custom build of a spin on one some day, but finding parts for that 30" 6 string scale is hard. You use that Bass VI damn well in your music- cool stuff man.

@@Blueshirt38 ♡ sometimes it's cheaper to just buy a harley benton bass vi 199$ bucks or used then just use the parts and build your own monster

In case anyone missed it the first few times like I did, they state in the video ( @ 46 seconds in) that the model of BKP pickup used in this demo is a set of Silo humbuckers. And, loaded into an Ibanez RG.

They sound like great pickups, series and parallel

The difference is quite subtle with crunch tones imho. With the clean tone I could hear that the parallel config was a bit brighter and quackier.
@BKPickups
@BKPickups Год назад
sure, in almost all cases, differences in pickup tones and combinations will be most obvious with a clean amp setting

Duncan JB in parallel is beautiful. Especially when paired with a strong single coil. I have a series-parallel switch for the JB.

I don't know why more folks don't utilise parallel switching. IMO it's a nice, more open sound that doesn't sound overthin like most split humbuckers do.
@BKPickups
@BKPickups 3 года назад
It's definitely underused!
@thos1618
@thos1618 Год назад
Because it's lower output and even more thin than a Coil Split.

Late to this thread, but totally agree, series parallel is far more usable than split coils. No hum, no big drop in output, a much more clarity

Great sounds! Do you recommend 500K pots to cater for the series or 250K to cater to the parallel?
@BKPickups
@BKPickups 4 года назад
That can certainly work in certain situations, particularly with lower outpt humbuckers. It's really down to personal taste

Can both pickups be wired to the same switch?
@BKPickups
@BKPickups Год назад
That depends on exactly what kind of switch you are using: standard guitar push-pull pots and mini toggles only have enough switch contacts to operate series/parallel switching for one pickup, but you can get more complex 5 and 6 way pickup selector switches which will allow you to get a combination of series and parallel tones from two pickup. Check out Freeway switches for some toggle switch options, or also the 5 way superswitch that we sell on our site if your guitar uses an inline switch

bridge sounds basically the same, neck is a little brighter in parallel, think i'll stick with splitting the bridge and maybe try this in the neck.

@@BKPickups i watched a few more comparisons and decided to go split in the neck and parallel in the bridge, sounds amazing when both are together in that config.
