I LOVE THESE GUYS. THIS SONG IS SO GREAT WITH A GLASS OF WINE AND CANDLES TO THINK AND ENJOY THE MOMENT. THINK ABOUT THE SHIT THAT HAS GONE WRONG AND WHY.
The bravest thing I've ever done Was to run away and hide But not this time, not this time And the weakest thing I've ever done Was to stay right by your side Just like this time, and every time I couldn't tell you I was happy when you were gone So I lied and said that I missed you when we were apart I couldn't tell you, so I had to lead you on But I didn't mean to break your heart And if I always seem distracted Like my minds somewhere else That's because it's true, yes it's true It's this stupid pride that makes me feel Like I have to follow through Even half-assedly, loving you Why must I always speak in terms of cowardice? When I guess I should have just come out and told you right from the start Why must I always tell you all I want is this? I guess 'cause I didn't want to break your heart And you said What'd you think that I was gonna do, Curl up and die just because of you? I'm not that weak, you know What'd you think that I was gonna do, Try to make you love me as much as I love you? How could you be so low? You arrogant man, What do you think that I am? My heart will be fine Just stop wasting my time And now I know that you will be okay, and that I got what I want And that's rid of you Good bye And it's not cause I'll be missing you That makes me fall apart It's just that I didn't mean to break No I didn't mean to break No I didn't mean to break Your heart
This album is excellent! I absolutely love it! I've been listening to it since I was a teen, I'm 31 now. My father would play this album through anytime the stereo was turned on. I miss my Daddy. My kids know every song on this album. 100% Gold.
The most beautiful and talented singing of a song about a scumbag. I absolutely love this song for how Steve puts SO much feeling into it and the music that backs it up.
So friends and I have had a theory about this song for years. The emotion in Steve's voice convinced us that his words are all a lie..that he's the one that's having his heart broken and is trying to sound "macho"about it basically the lyrics are the exact opposite of how he actually feels but is trying to sound tough like he doesn't care. The emotion in his voice tells the story as much as the lyrics. Like I said just a theory, could be wrong. But completely agree one of the greatest songs ever. Gives me the feels everytime I listen to it.
likewise. I was at acting school in Manhattan, was 21 and met a bunch of people in infamous Washington Square Park; one dude had a guitar and was summering at NYU housing and was playing a ton of songs from this album which had just come out that past summer or so. I invited all back to a flat I had rented for the summer for immersion program, and i invited a bunch of folks I met in the park. I didn't realize it then, but it was the best times of my life, before hell of living got in the way, and all our dreams were folded, got old and wasted. But the memoirs are what keeps us going sometimes. At any rate, I have to say it is my favorite live album as well. Every now and then, not often, but every year or so, I will come back to hear its majesty and to take a quick walk down memory lane. Incidentally a few of those I hung out with that summer, actually moved to LA, and indeed make it VERY big in La La Land; mostly behind the screen, but one in particular name is often associated with many smaller films. I tip my hat to her; I however was less inclined to be plastic and suck ass in that hellpit of Los Angeles, so here I am bitter LOL. Nay, but, thanks for this....
My favorite album of all time! My Dad would play it & I fell in love with the entire album! I would play it in my car every day! My dad has been gone 10yrs now, and hearing this album gives me Happy memories but also hurts my heart bc I miss him. BEST ALBUM! 15+YRS LATER & I STILL FEEL IT!
Been following you guys since the beginning. I remember an outstanding free concert in the Beach. Will always love you guys thanks for the awesome music 👍🏻
I think this is the 4th. Gordon, Maybe You Should Drive, Born on a Pirate Ship, then this one. Stunt came after this, with their big smash hit "One Week" which really drove their popularity through the roof.
