The Grammy award-winning pianist Daniel Barenboim has been active on the concert stage since the age of seven when he made his stage debut in his hometown of Buenos Aires. Well known for his work with the East-Western Divan Orchestra, a group of young Arab and Israeli musicians, he is currently the director of the Berlin State Opera, La Scala (Milan) and the Staatskapelle Berlin. Barenboim is described as "one of the few musicians in the world today who could accurately be describe as legendary".

We are so fortunate to live in an age when these performances are so easily available and will be there long after the great musicians have gone: Beethoven and Barenboim have their place in eternity

No matter how many time I hear it that segue from the Adagio into the Rondo never ceases to move me, 40 years after I first heard Roger Woodward do it at the Sydney Opera House. What a perfect sense of modulations Beethoven had ...

There are three different interpretations. Still under debate as to what the composer did. Barenboim splits the octave scales and many do glissandos but the score indicates octave scales. 🤷‍♂️

@theodentherenewed4785
@theodentherenewed4785 3 года назад
The speed is subject to individual interpretation. I like to juggle different recordings to have a fresh experience. Barenboim is famous for being Beethoven's interpreter and I think he does the job well.

I thought if anything the first movement was faster than I'd expect
@joelmacinnes2391
@joelmacinnes2391 2 года назад
Wait yeah, the other two are pretty slow. I think the 2nd can be played almost as slow as you like, but Barenboim's 2nd here, as with Valentina Lisitsa's, does drag on a bit, the 3rd is really hard to get right, too many people play it like some sort of sprint where it's just too fast, but you definitely can play it too slowly, as I think he does here
