Thank you for making this video. I have been trying for more than a week, to rebuild my B1 Springbox split-chassis version. I have even bought two outer models for spare parts. I want to rebuild it because the body is nicely detailed and the finish is great. The body moulding is the same as the version you have. I did notice a problem with the B.R. version. One of the wheels on the right-hand side was jumping in one of the running shots. Martin. (Thailand)
I have a split chassis one which is such a sweet runner I am probably going to DCC chip it. I had success with adding home-made tender pickups to a Tornado (was a horrible case of stoppy-startyitis), so I think I can do the same for my B1.
The B1 was by far Thompson's best loco. Great looking engines. I did consider buying an example from TMC, but SamsTrains assessment put me off. I'll give them another look after watching your excellent review.
@JenniferEKirk LoL. Not this time. He was making very similar points to you, but he came down on the side of not buying it and putting the money towards something more modern. But that was at £116. Now they're down to £99, the balance has moved towards snapping one up, perhaps... They are very pretty locos. Trouble is, I already have 4. All split chassis though.
Jenny are you going to do a video on the Hornby B1 Mayflower to see what the difference are. Enjoy this video and very informative, out of the two locomotives I liked the Green L.E.N.R one more because of the colour.
Hi Jenny great review, my layout is pretty flat and mine doesnt struggle with 6 teaks, so must just be the gradients. I think for less than 120 or even 99 you cant go wrong with these. Similar to the k3, really good locos on balance. Cheers Shaun
