That's what the wooden planks are for which are pulled from under the load I guess, by looking at it. The belt runs protected and load-free under the planks and only gets loaded at the end of the pile where the planks are pulled gradually as the pile shortens....

Just by looking at it, you can see that the belt runs in a tunnel under the load. The wooden planks, which are pulled out gradually as the rubble pile shortens protect it. It only gets loaded at the end of the pile... then, before loading the ship again, those planks are laid across the Tunnel again, so no load sits on the Belt.

@@samuelbhend2521 I work a a crusher screener plant, probably 60 different conveyor belts I help maintain, when he pulls a board out and material falls on the belt the belt is now loaded and has a load on it , a conveyor belt will rip or tear 90% of the time whilst loaded or while it has material on it , that design requires a lot of shoveling if the belt breaks because it ain’t going to break with nothing on it like what your explaining

@@HarrisPropertyMaintenance the rubble pile in the barge does not sit on the conveyor, it sits on the wooden planks above. So: no load on conveyor until the end of the rubble pile, where the boards are pulled to let the rubble onto the belt. The only part of the belt that has to be shoveled if it breaks, is the exposed part, where there is just the conveyor load, but not the big pile on top.

looks like coal

went on a Yangtze River cruise back in 2017. the river is full of hundreds of these boats putting along. loaded with sand or gravel or like this one soft coal they use to run their power plants. Nonstop day and night. I would be interested to see video of these guys getting loaded.

This is not being handled properly. Typically, there's a crewman on either side, standing on the flat-deck sides above the cargo area. Each has a water hose or a scraper on a long pole, & they push or spray the load at the sides onto the belt. Water also washes the deck clean, makes the material collapse faster & easier, & keeps down the dust. That way, the belt tender doesn't have any standing material at his sides, & he can stand on clean deck plates for sure footing. Here, he's essentially digging a tunnel he hopes doesn't collapse & bury him. I'd not be in his shoes for anything, it's a disaster waiting to happen.
