That is a matter of opinion.. I rather liked the original layout, where position on track and speed, was the difference on and off. Truly a mans man track
Remember these are just 2001 spec cars. Imagine racing with 2004 cars here, that can rev past 19000 rpm compared to 18000 rpm of 2001 cars. Sadly, the old Hockenheimring never sees 2004.
Classic BIAS, thinking something was better than really was instead after lots of years. Ferrari unit was far way better, since they won all of the titles
@@wildcathendrix7305 classic BMW butthurt, since their so called „sporty” brand is one of the „winningless” brands out there in major motorsport classes, moto or auto.
Dear god I miss this race track :( why did f1 get tilke to destroy this track? Extremely fast, flowing and we got the hear those glorious V10’s screaming their valves off 👌🏻
That's what I call a fight! DC fought like a lion, it looked pretty much lost alredy after 0:26 and basically surely lost after 0:42. Somehow, he held the position for another entire lap, despite the completely unnecessary defense at 1:46. WOW!
Nem me diga Vicente!!! Que sim maravilhoso!! Sou viciado em PlayStation, e faço questão de jogar os jogos antigos só para escutar esta sinfonia!!! 👂🏻👂🏻👂🏻👂🏻👂🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
One of the good side of these type of track is that the track and the car in the center of the action and you feel the speed. Whereas in modern circuits , the grandstands , spectators tribunes and every other thing are so gigantic that the cars and the tracks looks miniscule and the sense of speed is totally flattened.
Grazie al cazzo... Con quella macchina anche un bambino poteva superare... In resto, ha accettato come un schiavo il ruolo de guardaspalle per Schumacher... Aveva tanto da imparare a che riguarda l'orgoglio! Per esempio da... Eddie Irvine!
I remember the race quite well like yesterday. Though, visiting the now deceased Ostkurve a couple of weeks ago, it seems more like a century from nowaday circuits :-( Miss the real F1 motor sound as well.
The racing could be a bit staid, but the cars were epic. Tyres you could really push, traction control so maximum acceleration. Also, the old Hockenheim. Completely unique. Nothing like it on the calendar. Absolute travesty it's gone forever. Very German - a little bit odd, extreme, and thrilling.
Great display of attacking and defensive driving, that Mclaren is damn quick in a straight line, by the looks of how out of shape DC is getting in some of the corners I'm guessing they are running a but less wing than Ferrari.
Yes, Barrichello had fresh tires. This was actually his second pass on Coulthard in the race. That McLaren was aerodynamically very efficient, so even with a power deficit the McLaren was still very fast in a straight line, even though both McLaren and Ferrari were completely owned by Williams in this race.
blackrose917 Wouldn‘t say most of it. On some tracks yes but on many tracks the records got broken in the race and also in quali and back then refueling was still allowed so thats certainly also a factor. But Im with you that the drivers worked more on the wheel than nowdays, todays car are just planted to the ground.
@Jay Em I said nothing about G-Forces my man, I just said that back then they had to work/correct more on the wheel because the cars had less grip, because of less downforce and grooved tires. So while the loads on the body are higher today, the amount of work on the steering is less, which is quite clear when you compare the onboards from different eras.
My F1 idol was R.B. He carried a very heavy cross on his back because Senna died. He had to assume the role of hero of Brazilian F1 fans lile Senna and it is a very difficult mission
Rubens, um dos melhores que já vi em A1-Ring - Austria, Gilles Villeneuve - Canadá, Silverstone - Inglaterra, Hockenheim - Alemanha. Senão fizesse assim dessa vez ia ficar a vida inteira atras do escocês.
Notice how close they can follow in corners...that’s what you get with basic aerodynamics...none of the stupid multiple flaps in the front wing and super complicated bodywork.
Back in 2001 already, they couldn't follow as in 80 s and 90s. In 70z-89s you could pass a car that was faster than you over the whole lap if you were at his back on the straight.

not possible with DRS, or at least not when only the car behind can use it
This video is one of the proofs of how bad was Coultard as a driver compared to most of the other top drivers. Great skills once again by Barrichello, very underrated unlike the Scottish.
Gival Barichello had the better car than Coulthard in 2001 but still finished behind him in 2000 and 2001 in the standings. Barichello was schooled by Irvine in 1995. Even old Brundle outqualified him 5 times in 1996.
Adam Petten That's because Hakkinen had declined and Coulthard was no longer strictly a number 2 driver, whereas Barrichello was absolutely a number 2 behind Schumacher, so he gave up a lot of poles, was second to get upgrades, and never got to take his first pit stop at the optimal time. They were pretty much on the same level skill wise. Very good drivers but not quite at the top. Same as Irvine, who could at least admit didn't have Schumacher's pace. All of Schumacher's other teammates carried a little resentment, especially Verstappen. Hakkinen was the only one in the late 90s/early 2000s that could truly compete. There's a reason there were a lot of ordinary drivers around when Schumacher was at his peak and then a bunch of "greats" like Alonso/Hamilton/Vettel/Raikkonen/Kubica in the following decade. Coulthard and Barrichello, who I think were roughly equal, might have been considered as excellent Schumacher was there to set a true standard.
