Remember there is no hurry…..you have your whole lives to build, mould and improve your homestead so make sure you enjoy the process…..pause, take a breath, you’re living your dream! No pressure….day by day….week by week….month by month…you’ll get there eventually so never apologise for what you’ve done, how little, how much, how good or bad it turns out just be kind to yourselves and each other because you’re doing great! Thank you for letting us share your adventure 😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🍻👍

Dan & Laura TY for the amazing video! I love to see all your hard work. A quote: "Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.” - Michelangelo. As you two chip away and remove the old; what lies underneath is your creation waiting to be revealed. One day, as you two sit in your home, you may reminisce about those days and the final revelation of "Dan's and Laura's" dream coming true. God Bless You Both! ~ John

Absolutely love your videos...while watching you attempting to get your truck out of the mud I was reminded of the time I was in my way to a Boy Scout meeting when I noticed a car stuck in the mud...I asked if I could and the driver said yes...I told her to slowly press on the gas while I pushed the car from the back...well instead of slowly she (the driver) floored the gas causing the back wheels to spin and covering me from head to toe with mud..the car pulled out of the mud and I was left standing there covered in mud...no one believed me at the meeting how it happened....never lose your sense of humor...

If you lay down some tarps in the barn, then the dirt chippings will fill the tarp, then when it's full enough it can just be picked up and set in the wheelbarrow, and be easier to remove, instead of having to use a shovel and scoop them all up.

Hello, you two. So pleased you are wanting to take the walls back to how they originally looked. If you are wanting building advice, check out project portugal. Nick and Andrea have renovated their barn, but Nick had his own building buisness before they moved to Portugal. He has recently started doing "how to videos," but even just watching them, they give lots of advice. Andrea is the gardener of the 2. They also physically help others, sometimes a barter system of labour exchange. They are in central Portugal. You know the clay crap from the wall, you could use that to make your drive way a bit more solid. I was born in the Lake District, and that was something often seen, that and coal cinders and ash from the fires. How has it been living in your bell tent? X

Cringe cringe cringe, I'm 77 years old. Been pushing wheelbarrows all my life, no matter what RU-vid channel I watch, nobody knows the basic. Are you ready!.You always start by placing the wheelbarrow the direction you are going to go, so you are not going to turn the barrow around when it's full, Number 2. When filling the barrow most of the weight goes over the front wheel, so you are working on balance, only a little weight is on the handles, SImple. I'm only going to the trouble of telling you two because I do enjoy what you are doing and wish I was doing it with you. Sending my fondest regards. Old Tom.xx.

I am wondering just what the final inside walls will look like. Knocking off all of the old covering is a task and a half! An undertaking I do not believe I would have undertaken. I appreciate the effort you guys are putting into this and at least you are getting some nice fill material for the driveway! Once removed you can plaster the inside for nice smooth level walls or simply add backers to the stone and use wood to cover the stone. The original stone may look great but there will be so many holes, nooks, and crannies in it there is no telling just what will move into them! You guys may have some ideas on how to overcome this....I can't wait to see what the final product looks like! GREAT JOB so far!!
@marybates2201

The stone building could be the start of a beautiful home, I personally would build timber frame rooms on both sides of it, then you can use the frame to put the stone veneer up, much quicker and easier plus you can tie the stone to the timber frame for more support, just put a concrete foundation under the stone.

Great to see another video and you moving forward as always. The little and often approach is always good for mind numbing jobs like chiping the old plaster/clay from the wall. The odd hour here and there soon adds up and don't focus on the whole thing just look at a few square meters at a time, it really helps your brain. The additional window is a great bonus as adding one in those walls I would expect is either impossible or a job for an expert.

From what I gather if a barn was built before 1950, then no license is needed in Portugal to turn it into habitation.
@Daniel_QWERTZ
@Daniel_QWERTZ Год назад
The pre-1951 rule only applies on habitation-buildings on urban land. You can get an exception from habitation licence if your house is build before 1951. But a agricultural support building on a rustic plot is a barn and stays a barn. Until you change it with official planing, permission and according to the local PDM 🤷🏼‍♂️ To make shure, ask your friendly local camara municipal, because RU-vid has made up some "rules" on its own 😅

I noticed when Nick came there is a tree that shows a limb resting on the side of the barn.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the rocks being taken to your property, is that some of them need to be dumped right inside the gate, where that big dip is when you drive through your gate

I love watching you two. You are very inspirational, hard working and I love your humour. This is one of my top favourites. Fun thing: I wonder how many times you both mention the words, 'On the land'?😀

That is great you twoyou have a start now t he follow through get the mud down and put a no mold lime filler in so water can't get in and moldand put door frames in and decent doors and windows for ventilation in and maybe a room addition for a bed room or a loft.

Also wanted to say many times rodents and insects don't like peppermint. Get some peppermint essential oil and diffuse it inside, you could grow it and hang it up around also? It is purifying and sanitizing.

Nice job guys! The pickup is coming in handy! (Wonder if be worth changing the tyres for proper off-road tyres So you got decent grip when you're on the land using it with the mud etc?) The barn looks really promising & good having the ready cut window aswell! Keep up the good work! 👍👌
