Thanks for your nice description of this lovely oval. In the fifties we called the grayish cloth used for headliners 'mouse fur' not mohair, which is a type of upholstery fabric. I don't remember ever seeing silver though. These cars were often painted metallic sky blue, which unfortunately only lasted a couple of years before the clearcoat failed.
Good Morning Laszlo from Melbourne ,Victoria, Australia. What a gem you have found. A little TLC and it will be a wonderful day drive for someone. One little comment I hope you don't mind. A VW is not complete without the little vase on the dashboard and a nice flower in it. What a matching number car,value has just increased due to this. Thirty year restoration has took it toll,is it time for a refresh? Looking at the roof and some minor scratches I would be inclined to give this old girl a complete repaint, strip to paint back to bare metal and have a professional paint job. Reason being,it is not original paint so a complete restoration of paint will increase vale I would say two fold. Just a thought Laszlo on such a beautiful gem Have a great day Austin

It might be period correct engine, but you would need to get a VW Birth certificate from VW Germany to know if it is the original engine that it was manufactured with. So it could or could not be worth 20k. Also the black fender beading, should be body colored, but black seems to add a touch of class.
