Matt is showing the virtues of the fabulous torsion bar suspension. Just like a beetle it will go anywhere. Although this is thoroughly pissing off 356 enthusiasts somebody had to show you how tough these little hand made gems are.
Love the 356 with quite a passion and seeing one in this condition isn't that painful. Some people are out there using GT3 RS in rally when they're track weapons; it goes to show that no matter if it's a modern 911 or those old 356s, they can do anything you want them to do. Porsche is Porsche, they're a canvas, you do whatever you want to them, it's your car at the end of the day.
It's April 9, 2020 and the world is on fire with the CoronaVirus and we are all in quarantine. Watching this video got me out of my depression and made me feel good about life again. Two thumbs up!
chefgiovanni I think he means museum piece as the history of how this 356 has been used and enjoyed, used how it was ment to be, where it's been driven and capable of, out of the common car show, concourse type car that lives parked in a garage!!! Tons of money restoring them to then stare at them and afraid to get some scratches is pathedic unless you are an investor and have a collection of 10 cars or more to sell later at a profit!
Yeah that is one way of looking at it. It is cool to see it going off rod and being driven. I heard of a few of them Concourse 356 cars selling for 500k recently.
That has to be one of the absolute best videos I've watched... Amazing! We have a '58 A Cab and it is really weird how you feel like that when you drive it. It captivates your sole and take you to a place you have never been. You want to go off and tour the whole world with it. It really is that good. If I was allowed only one possession in life, it would be that car. ...and I would be the happiest person ever! Thanks so much for such a special video! Franny
Bravo to one of the best films I've ever watched in my life. So many 'collectors' of cars bubble wrap them and hide them away in their cocoons, never to seen or used, hoping to make it safely to the next stingy owner. But here we have a young man who has figured it all out. Cars were meant to be driven, enjoyed, loved and, most importantly, used to create unforgettable memories. After all, we can't take the cars with us. Thank you for this film.
People want fresh cars so they work well and have few to no problems but that puts the value up. And then they are too scared to use them properly in fear of “devaluing” the car when the real value comes from the memories made in that vehicle
Terrific work! Inspiring and fascinating at the same time. I came here as a Porsche owner expecting to see a short film about a classic Porsche. What I found was so much more. I'm hooked.
Killer stuff guys. Matt's Petrolicious piece is one of my favorites that they've done and his story definitely lends itself to this extended format. I'm really looking forward to what seeing more from you - keep up the great work!
on humans and cars... or perhaps a homeopathic dosis of self-reflecting... such a great attitude! perhaps the right attitude, the important thing is not the object, but the subjective experience...
I'm so glad Matt does what he does but I can't help but feel envious that he got into classic P-cars before the explosion in value. as someone who's grown up with them becoming pricier seemingly by the day, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to afford one, even in barnfind condition, so I'm grateful Matt shares his experiences with his online. loved the video, excellent work!
"This car and I started driving everywhere together" is a line that has come to mind dozens (or maybe hundreds) of times since I first watched this video about 5 years ago. Each time I remember, it reconnects me to my unique fascinations and the parts of myself that exist independent of any desire for status or acceptance from society. Thanks Matt for sharing some of your perspectives/interests/adventures, and Jeremy for crafting such an eloquent window to experience his story.
This dude sounds like a surfer living in the hills ...I own a Porsche and I don’t baby it but I do take care of it cause it did cost me some hard earn $ ..I would like too think my son can have it some day ..but to each his own ...he can enjoy his the way he wants
Congratulations to everyone who is part of this beautiful production !!! inspiring to me. I want to know which camera you are using and the times you chose to record it was very beautiful.
This guy and his Porsche and just in general this channel are making me want to buy an old VW bug like I wanted to in high school (pre 67) and just drive it. I don't want a restored one, give me one with some patina and I'll be happy....this guy is loving life and his love for his Porsche is beautiful. I hope to be like him some day soon
This is such a good video, the first video i have seen on this channel. For a small channel like this, You guys have such good videos, Keep up the good work and i am looking for more videos like this!!!
The essence of the 356 is so eloquently captured by these visuals of it intimately in action, making tracks, plying the trail. Reminds me of the feeling I got playing with my matchboxes in the dirt.
I think i have commented before....but what a great happy video......watching in Leighton Buzzard Bedfordshire UK. Whilst cooking and drinking Brewdog Lost larger (breaking the no alcohol Monday to Friday Rule) after a long day .....the video is like the therapy to unwind to for a few minutes... forget the crappy UK weather all the global unrest.....drift into planet 356 California.....
When you said porsche tested the original ones on dirt Well, you then said what kind of car company does a Porsche's is a engineering and design company? Not a car company. Look it up, they just happen to make cars DAMN FOOS CARS
Another way to enjoy your fun beater cars is to make them available to property masters for production studios. They’ll pay you for the use of your cars and you get to show them off in movies and tv shows.
Back in the 80s I took my 66 Java green beetle on many similar adventures. By removing all but the driver seat and constructing a long low platform on the passenger side I was able to sleep comfortably in the car. With a Coleman two burner stove it was pretty luxurious “camping”. I worked on a reforestation crew and for months drove nothing but logging roads. On several occasions I was the only vehicle to make it through a bad section that lifted four-wheel-drive trucks were unable to navigate. I wonder if the beetle has slightly better clearance than the Porsche?
I thought it would be way too long at 23 mins as well. But after watching it 3 times I don't think it's long enough. Beautiful film, and I don't even like cars that much.
@@jamesdunn9714 I wish I could, but I can't. I am married, baby is on the way soon. How can I enjoy going for long drives in my bug when I have so many damn responsibilities at home. Or if my wife comes along, then it ain't the same as going solo, or having a buddy. When I try to work on it in the garage, she comes out and bugs me. I wish I was single. My old bug days of fun and carefree are long gone. Is this guy single I wonder ? Seems like single guys get to live the best. My life stopped at 37
@@bugnut82 Marriage can be a challenge. Matt is single as am I. Sometimes I just wander off usually on a motorcycle with no particular destination in mind.
Ok. The car and footage are stunning. The background music doesn’t match up and oversteers the engine beats … the amazing thing about the sound is you pretty much hear the special high ratio of the 4 speed manual which totally unique to the 356 even on idling it might resemble a bug but at soon as it accelerates it is a different story and sounds totally cool and characteristic …
I did these types of things often when I was 18, great times to some requiring rescue . Unfortunately life requires each of us react to what comes to us. But i will always have those memories to share with friends. Turn your lights off!
This guys talks way too much.. Verry nice saying all this dreamy stuff, but like most people, I got to work... Can't just leave everything and go just like that...
I ride motorcycles and just go sometimes. Camp in odd places and drink beer when the sun goes down. I have newer rides but my ride of choice is a '86 BMW R80RT. I want something older and funky. A friend bought an old Guzzi once for twenty bucks, patina with good mechanics, rode it forever. Purchased at a yard sale. Love this video.
A real car for a real guy. Kind of sad when these cars get restored to the point where owners are afraid to drive them. Driving them is kind of like walking around in a white tuxedo. To each is own but to me that is missing the point.
I have a 1971 Karmann Ghia, this is how I drive my car every day...! It’s mechanically perfect, and it is my only car... Thanks for the video I don’t feel so bad about my Karmann Ghia not being perfectly restored....!
Your vids are the truth bro, production value all over, and dont think I didnt notice the drone shots, if you ever need an intern or assistant im here.
Excellent video. This reminds me of my 1953 Bent window coupe, 1500 Normal I bought in Big Sur ( $100... yes one hundred dollars) in 1965. I would go anywhere, anytime.
Great to see a 356 used properly. We have a range of Porsche 356 prints now available: www.limited100.co.uk/collections/automotive-fine-art-photography/porsche
