Tom returns to California one last time to get the car inspected and visit the DMV. Why? To keep its original black-and-gold license plates. Why is that important? John explains the significance of black and golds. Tom does paperwork.
With his remaining time, he adjusted the seat mountings. The Minor is a small car; Tom is 6'3". Even an inch makes a difference. To prevent the car becoming another Lucas joke, he used his remaining time to clean and replace every bullet connector he could get to.
Next came "cargo Tetris": packing the car for its trip back east. Bonus: Tom discovers mid-Sixties Blue Chip grocery stamps under the rear seat! Everything fit into the Traveller (we didn't get video of JD's motorboat engine, but more on that later).
Second bonus: The shipping company had a truck in the area that same evening! Except the gate wouldn't open. Oh well. Tom flies back home. Good news: JD can drive the car onto the next truck. Bad news: The car won't start. Solution: Push it up the ramp into the truck (a Morris is light).
When the car reached New Hampshire, Tom discovered the problem. And all our plans for fettling it went out the window. Would we be able to get it shipped in time for its long trip through The Netherlands and the U.K.?
As always, we are devoted to Bryan 'Woody' Wood. He makes the video magic you are watching out of the clips, images, voiceovers, and random emails + texts we toss at him. Do you need videos? HIRE WOODY! You can reach him at: frink5k@gmail.com.
Our sincere thanks, once again, to the generous + patient JD + Beth, who let us work on a shabby old car in their driveway. JD offered up his stash of boat-building tools, and even shot some video for us on Tom's phone.
