It turned out wonderful! You should be proud of your work! Your sand and cement mixture is essentially what we call "Flowable Fill" (if you mix it in a cement mixer with water).
@@D3Sshooter Flowable fill is often used for work where you do not want to use a plate compactor - lots of cities use it to fill in utility trenches under roads because it can be made soupy enough to fill all voids and apply even compaction. If you are interested I will send you a simple formula for mixing?
Beautiful work Steve. You are right if you removed more stones at the end you would remake all of them . I believe the those stones "must" be uneven it gives something.
I think it looks great. The original cobblestones were simply placed in dirt. Good drainage and easily able to reconfigure. Dirt is also (usually) free. Why use sand and cement? Were you afraid of it shifting/sinking?
Sand and a little cement are cheap enough spread over next 50 years. Difficult to not have the stones settle without cement when Steve is driving big tractors over them. Without cement the only thing holding cobblestones in place is its neighbour, one moves then another and over time they will be uneven vertically and displacing one another.
Clayish soil is difficult for laying these stones, sand is much much easier. Riversand is squarish instead of rounded beach sand, so it really grips tight but drains very well, even with a bit of cement mixed in. Stabilized sand drains much better than clay soil
Hi Steve! Your stone work is amazing! You should have made our village sqare it´s made of round stones, so uneven to walk on our in my case drive my electric wheelchair. I hope You soon get time for Old Rusty. Do You still have the old Peugeot? Thank You for all nice videos.
