I gotta say, you know ur British cars. I had a 65 Sprite when I was 19 and I'm 71 now. It was the most fun car to drive that I ever owned and I learned to work on it cuz it was the only way to keep it running. I didn't have the money to have it in a shop all the time, drove it til it spit rings out the tail pipe.

Nice one Steve! 40+odd years as a mechanic, many for BMC/BLMC/Austin-Rover dealers, and I never had the opporchancity to work on one! I've seen many, both in and out of workshops, but, alas, always someone else's baby! Still, you've done very well with this one, and I thank you for sharing! Cheers from rural England! :-)

Very interesting, but you skipped over what was a huge headache for me - bleeding the clutch hydraulics! A story about my '59: I found things in my heater box, and they turned out to be two old grenades and a cluster bomb bomblet. It led to a contingent of state police and a visit from a munitions guy from Albany. The best theory is that a US serviceman stationed in Europe decided that was the best way to 'import' his collection into the US, then forgot about them.

Recently someone was lamenting about how he hesitated and didn't buy. Years were passing and that person was still kicking himself for having not made the purchase. The reasons seemed good at the time. I'm glad this new owner didn't feel the same way. That car is going to be great fun - and life can be fun!

Hi Steve. Those 1275cc engines were installed in a variety of Austin Morris car models. I had one in my 1973 Morris Marina 1300L. They are great work horses and so easy to work on,and ultra reliable .. That car was passed down from my uncle Joey to my Mum to my sister and finally to me aged 17 . It was stolen and recovered, but written off by the insurance Co,as it suffered front box suspension damage and the gearbox was shot. I replaced the gearbox and suspension with scrapyard parts for £30 and sold the car making a HUGE profit. Wish that I'd kept it now,as rare as hens teeth .

That was a lot of fun. Seeing you take things apart and replacing the junk with new and getting this beautiful little car running has been great. I actually learned plenty about the bugeye just from how simply you explain and show everything. I feel that I could tackle the work even though Im not a mechanic (I do have an understanding of the basic engine). Some lucky person is now playing with this big toy and loving it, especially the driving. Did you remove the hard top when it was sold?

31:02 I would guess that when one of the previous owners had the car they wanted to move the car around but it wasn't running (as we all well know lol). So to save the body from getting dented and scratched up and to have something to push against they mounted a set of bumpers (or remounted them because they were too rusted to hold) to protect the body.

When you said it was running pretty good it was running on two of the cylinders out of the four. I cannot understand why I can hear this and other people think everything is hunkydori. It sounds like a John Deere tractor because that is all they have. I thought it was one of the carburetors but it must be running on one cylinder for each carb since you synchronized it. I think water got into the two end cylinders and rusted the valve faces which you could tell quickly with a pressure gage in the sparkplug hole.

I don't understand. You bought 6 Sprites and of them you picked the worst one. One would think that you would have a good look round all vehicles to determine the best one to try and get running. Every RU-vid channel that tries to get an engine running tries to turn the engine over by hand first before moving forward. What got me was the he bench tested the starter motor. Then when installed, used a technique to try and get the motor to turn over. But he already knew it worked. Then said he tried to move it and thought the drive shaft was missing. But a quick look would have told him more parts were missing. He may know what he is talking about but going about it backwards.
