As someone who survived the 80's by the skin of my teeth (at one point we paid 21% interest) by milking cows, I find organic dairy to be much more relaxing than the conventional hustle, constant expansion, bigger more labor more headaches. Now my son is taking over and it's interesting to say the least. BTW just took off 210 bu organic corn, not too bad pity the market is down to 9.00 right now so I'm holding what extra I have till early spring

Most of your organic grain for "food" the end users will do GMO tests for the proteins.I think 5% is the threshold & they will reject the load. We grow several thousand acres of organic corn & almost all of it is tested by the end users.

I'm not sure about corn stalks, but wheat straw contains as much as 80lbs of fixed nitrogen per acre. Not to mention all the micro nutrients and soil insulation factors.

Cajan seasoned Turkey in a bowl of chicken Ramen that's how we reused our extra Turkey and dinner of turkey enchiladas.

Sprinkle water on the Turkey when you reheat it. Keeps it from drying out.. Anything you reheat in the microwave sprinkle water on it. Pro Tip…

Small scale is a headache and heartache often I could only imagine what large scale or commercial farming brings with it. A chicken farmer we did some work for said just one of his cotton harvesters is $70,000 a year. To operate it what twice a year????? Oh yea fellas I feel it. Not to that kind of scale but we have lost several chickens to the cold the past few weeks here in SC. Pigs are sheltered enough, these specific birds were just too small and not going to make it anyways through the winter.

a small direct to consumer meat farm near me does great on chicken beef and pork and this year grew 1 or 2 acres of pumpkins to try to do a small patch idea and i dont think it worked out for em cause they were giving away pumpkins hand over fist come trick or treat night, i think they did not have enough customers to sell as many damn pumpkins they grew, those nieche markets are hard to find a way in to be succesful

$50 nutrient value per round bale for hay/grass - so I've been told. Not sure for stalks.

Only reason I do believe in it is because my winters are now just rain and not snow anymore it hasn’t snowed a lot since I was probably around 10. Farmers aren’t the sole cause we all are it’s not fair to blame one group of people who are just doing what they need to do to feed the population if they don’t go their jobs we don’t eat

I agree with you guys that the food claims including non gmo, organic, grass fed, ect. don't mean much from the big producers. I grow wheat, non gmo corn and hay plus grass fed beef and lambs for myself and market some of that produce to local consumers. I find that, at the local level, there is strong demand for non gmo and naturally grown products. I think the small scale producer/consumer relationship fosters that demand.

“Drift” is a thing when it comes to non GMO and organic production. We have extensive buffer zones, where we raise crops that won’t be effected. BTO corn is genetically modified to produce an enzyme that is actually on the approved list of products that can be used on organic crops. Round up is a huge leap forward compared to other herbicides, and it’s a big part of why better tillage, and no till has gotten more popular. Organic production is by no means what it was intended to be. I know, I exist in that space. I just want to see more independence for farmers. If someone doesn’t want that, I say, you be you. Go for it. I’ll be me, and it’s working out really well for me.
