In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart - to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we've learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. You got there because you dared to dream, and worked your way step by step. Now you show us that we can do the same, if we have the same courage and do our own work. Being grateful is important, but be proud as well. This is a mighty thing that you've achieved!

Your joy and blessings are contagious. The other day my dad was looking out at our new small farm, dairy cows in the pasture, goats nibbling on a tree, dogs pacing the fences, kids barefoot in the trampoline. He turned and said to me "This is exactly what I pictured for you when you were growing up". He didn't know it but that comment underscored my belief that dreams come true and prayers get answered ❤ Thank you for sharing this. It inspires so many to believe in more for themselves.

Every morning I write in my journal and I draw a picture of a barn and home (with land, a pond and a brook running through it) that I dream of owning someday - I'm 64 years old and still dreaming! Oh yes, there's a big garden full of vegetables and flowers there too - and LOTS of animals. Dog rescue? YES. Thank you for the inspiration to keep on dreaming!

About your 12' by 12' brooder stall: I built a big free-standing brooder building of about the same dimensions and eventually found it helpful to create a couple of removable chicken wire partitions or walls (it's inside the 1/4" hardware cloth so no need for anything sturdier) and another partition just inside the entry. The one inside the entry creates a small atrium to prevent escapees (think of an airlock) and gives me space to both store feed/equipment and the ability to access each individual pen as needed. The partitions can be removed fairly easily just by taking out a few screws (again, it's protected and need not be anything super heavy) and the entire space can be fully opened up in less than 10 minutes. With this configurable space I'm able to separate birds by age/breed/gender/purpose and can tailor the conditions and feed to each mini flock. I most often find I use it to separate the meat birds from the layer chicks but have also used it for keeping ducks and geese separated from chickens, as well as newly hatched chicks from the month-old ones. Honestly, building those partitions was one of the smartest things I have ever done for my poultry keeping endeavors. It sure has made my work easier and saved me from scrambling to find a place for new chicks several times. Just wanted to share. Best regards from north Texas.

Thank you Jess, we are blessed by you sharing you and your family's life with us, specially for those of us that don't live or can't live on a farm anymore, grew up that way, miss it but our family farm was dissolved back in roughly the 1998 ish time line. And I married out of being on it in 1986, so its been awhile, but I miss all of the animals, the freedom of walking the land and the diversity of the different areas of it, we had a creek that ran through it and it also had a mini swamp, and a pepper tree forest up on a hill too, besides the flat and dips and swells on it. I grew up there. We had cattle/beef/and dairy a few that we milked.and alot of the other animals that people have when you have property. So its been fun and will be fun, to watch you folks take that raw land and do what you have done with it and the future progression of what it will become, greater than it is. Thank you Jess, Miah and family for letting us follow you through your life and the abundance and blessing we receive through your gift of love!

I love the chick brooder stall. What a great ideal. I just put some chicks out in an outdoor brooder we made years ago. The chicks love the space and were just scratching. We have 21 more in a brooder inside the basement that I want to bring out next week. We have another outside brooder with 2 sides that we can use. They are off the ground and fully enclosed. To think years ago, we were using large rubber mate totes to keep them in til we could add them to the coop area. My older girls started laying finally after months off. Some are Marans so I put their eggs in the incubator. The barn is beautiful. So are all the critters. That was a great ideal for the sheep to get out of the rain.

The last part of this video hit home. We find out today if our offer was accepted on a small ranch of 13 acres with two ponds, a well, irrigation and more than we could have EVER dreamed of. For the first time, my husband and my kiddos are super excited about purchasing a property and can't stop talking about it. I want to be just as excited but I just keep reminding myself if we aren't accepted, that Father is protecting us from something we can't see or don't know or, he has even better planned for us. Thanks for being the inspiration and for these little nuggets of wisdom - sometimes it feels like Father is speaking directly to me through you when whatever you're talking about is what has been on my heart or in my prayers and I'm so very, very grateful for that. ❤

The artichoke stems! If not too “old” (hard), the stems can be roasted too. Whole. Then split longways in half to scoop out the inner flesh. Really wouldn’t contaminate with garlic…. The entire artichoke taste is an individual, short term harvest delight you’ll forever recall and anticipate as a need in a body’s minuscule window of desire. NB don’t knock a shop bought gifted jar of artichoke hearts should one’s own harvest window goes wrong. 😊

I love the evening ! AND the early morning watching the sun come up... I lost my house of 39 years to a middle of the night fire, I travel all winter back and forth BUT I stay in a little camper spring summer and fall, doing my animals, gardens and flowers, I sit on the step of the camper watching the sun come over the woods with my coffee. Last summer, not getting very many starwberries was troublesome, and I was looking at the bed of them one morning wondering if I may just replant all new WHEN up pops a little squirrel head with a berry bigger that its head : 0 THAT's where my strawberries were going. SO- I got at it earlier and picked early instead of mid morning and there were about 8 squirrels ranting at ME for stealing THEIR strawberries. LOL Hens for eggs, but no meat birds as I can't kill them. - can't do it : ( I fed and cared for them and they look at me with an ax in my hand- nope, couldn't do it, so I sold them all by box full : D Goats, well they're just pets, milk and cheese : ) and good company. Artichokes- do not cut off the tops, just turn upside down and hit on a hard surface to open the top. The prickly part will soften in the cooking. I cut the stem to the butt end of the plant and peel. Cut up with onions and stuff into the artichoke. Place in a large container heads up, add water 1/2 way up the chokes. Add olive oil and boil for 45 min or until you can pull a leaf off smoothly. We also stuffed with cooked sausage and /or hamburger, like a stuffed pepper and boiled. YUM YUM.....

I never dreamed of being a farmer. My family had a huge backyard garden, but teen me had a love hate relationship with it. Yes I loved eating all the fresh veggies and all the things my mom canned, but while my friends were at the town pool, I was weeding, picking rows of bush beans or pruning and trellising tomatoes. Other than herbs I avoided gardening most of my adult life. Yet, knowing what vegetables are supposed to taste like, I went to farm stands as often as I could. I am a foodie and as I grew older I realized I wanted more of that. So I tried gardening, and it was challenging. The problem was the garden was tucked away between the garage and shed and there just wasn’t enough sun. Some how I convinced myself it was me. So I secured a part time job as the manager of my town’s farmers market. It was a good gig and I did that for 4 years! My partner became quite ill so I had to let go of my market manager position. My partner sadly passed. The next spring I put in 2 4’x8’ raised beds in the backyard. Better sunlight sure does help! I was a gardener again and loving it. A couple of years later, I got chickens, 6 lovely ladies! Who knew? Just prior to Covid hitting I decided I was building 4 more raised beds. Fortunately I scored the lumber before it became scared. So the garden expanded. I decided because as I am nearing retirement I am going to keep expanding my food growing. So when it is time to retire, I will have my systems in place. This season I have three new hens and I am adding 9 galvanized raised beds! I still don’t dream of being a farmer, but I am a homesteader! Jess thank you for hoping that we can enjoy the golden hour, the blessings and for the inspiration to do just that!

You really are the sweetest girl and I wish I lived close enough to come have a cup of tea with you. You are right about dreaming of living on a farm because its been my dream for so many years. I don't think it will ever come true but I can watch your videos and live vicariously through them.

😢Going to miss Hali. Give a big hug from me Jess. The last 6 weeks the neighbour cows are over the road. Hardly can wait to bring them back our side. The grass so tall they will have a great time. Usulally they get swapped every 4 weeks but the family had some bad news so they had to stay longer. Lucky you you can just walk out and can get some loving. 😊
