You may have to do a double take when seeing a big yellow device on someone's windshield. It's called "The Barnacle" and it's slowly replacing the standard car boots we've seen on the roads for decades.
After removal, I would think it a good idea to faraday cage it so they don't know what happened/think it was destroyed, then return it to the agency or company by placing it on one of their windshields with about 5 bottles of superglue applied to the cups.
No not water you want to make sure it has a high salt content as well and maybe a little corrosive dont want the parking authorities just repair the damage
@@bluehornet197 it Doesn't matter if its the companys fault or not the fact that something like a person being killed because there.product ristrected sight is enough to kill em
Apparently if you crank on the defroster for 5-10 min, you can break the suction and remove them fairly easily. And the fact that they want you to deliver the device back to them is the most ridiculous of all.
If you have to pay with a credit card you can duspute the charge, when the company refunds your money close the acount. They want you to return it? Well ok, but I am going to disable it to keep them from using it again lol.
Brian Elton Even if you had parked wrong, keeping your car as ransome is scummy as fuck. I’ll pay my tickets but if I see this thing on my windshield it’s coming off WITH THE POWER OF MILWAUKEE and I’ll fight them in court if I must.
I wonder if you took a cordless drill with a 1/4 drill and you drilled through the outside cover through the rubber vacuum seal and let air in the vacuum. It would just fall off. Take the damn thing and throw in the nearest pond or river. LOL!
Please do. the GPS will track the device, the report of deployment will trace its last position to your vehicle and then you are charge with a felony PLUS the parking violation and fine. So by all means do that. I want to see just how long your grin will last.
I'm extremely petty, I'd much rather pay safelite $1000 to replace my windshield rather than pay their fine, in fact, I'll purposely crack my windshield and blame it on then, then sue them for the damages
@ not at all, they have a responsibility to not damage your vehicle. Same with tow trucks, if your car is parked illegally and they damage it in the process of towing it, you have every right to sue for the damage.
Plastic burns, oh, an alarm sounds? Wont that just run the battery down that powers the pump supplying the suction? Give it a month, it will be posted how to remove. Has GPS tracking? Try Tracking your barnicle as it burns
Put a snow cover over your windshield and angle you wipers in a upward position over the snow cover. There, now they can't use it without having to tamper and possible damaging your car.
Step 1: turn on vehicle Step 2: turn on window defroster Step3: wait for the heat to decrease suction Step 4: remove with slimjim Step 5: take out to desert and destroy device until you find the sim card Step 6: destroy or sell sim card Step 7: laugh maniacally
What about them having your license plate number? And now you get fined if not jailed for destroying the barnacle, destruction of city property and still have to pay the fine for parking in the wrong place.
Yep, you just need a drill with a sharp metall drill bit!!! ... Just be careful with the windshield. What a nice Invention! Against the tire claw, a battery flex is helpful. Is this an april fool in may??? XD
These can be beat easily a bit of PAM. cooking spray or Rain-x on your windshield & it can be pushed off , a friend had one on his windshield & it slipped off with Rain-x on his windshield
I'm sorry, did I give consent for this to be on my vehicle? No. did you have a warrant, no? Do I have to right to remove an obstruction from my vehicle? Yes. Would I carry a cordless Drill and Drill bits after this> Yes.
As an Engineer, I can take it off very easily. You only need to drill a small hole and get access to the onboard computer or the pump tubes, then it’s yours.
I tried to drill into these to break the vacuum facilitating the suction cups and was thrown back nearly 20 feet. It was like I was struck in the face with a massive air bag. My body went flying. I spent 3 weeks in the ICU with multiple lacerations, broken bones and a concussion. Cost me over $189k in medical bills. You know what? I'd do it all over again to avoid paying a parking ticket!
My car has a dashcam that streams to the infotainment unit for track use and 360 parking that I could just watch while driving lol wouldn't faze me at all
That Barnacle device is ready easy to remove. Just use a long flat metal piece or a long flathead screwdriver and press them between the window and the suction cup to break the seal. 😉
1) Pay with CC over the phone. Since no chip reader was used, you can dispute the charge & win. 2) A drill with a drill bit stop-collar. You puncture the 2 suction cups by drilling straight through the top middle. The stop-collar prevents you from damaging your windshield. 3) Not sure, but you could probably slide a putty knife up under that to break the seal.
To take off the Barnacle, all you need to do is run your vehicle's windshield defroster for 15 minutes, and then use a credit card or similar thin piece of plastic to release the suction cup around the edge.
Drill behind the the suction and the vacuum in the suction will leak release a suction. Drilling through plastic on all 4 suctions quickly and not moving the entire device.
I have removed hundreds of these with a drill. The new ones have a thin hardened plate. A cobalt drill bit will have them off in 30 seconds. I only charge half of what the tickets cost.
An extra-long straw nozzle on a full can of WD-40 shoved under each suction cup might work (rumor has it), or a contractor's grade heat gun, dialed up just right, should melt/distort a lot of both the mechanical works and the electronics, including the suction cups. Or, any one of several types of harsh, corrosive acids applied directly to the suction cups... Then they can have the damn thing back. In a small nondescript box. After it's been 90% melted/incinerated. Or, maybe leave it functionally intact, and place it on the next unattended police cruiser you "find"... That constitutes returning it, right...?
Step 1..keep a battery operated drill with a metal bit Step 2 drill on the top of the plastic stop when you break through Step 3 start start drilling again very lightly until you feel it break through the rubber Step 4 repeat step 3 Step 5 repeat same steps on other side then it will lose its suction
Assuming you do pay the fine with a credit card. Dispute the charge the Credit Card Company refunds you your money within a wekk or to. At the say time drill holes in the BArnacle before you return it. That way they cannot resue it and you get you money back lol.
DO NOT overthink this. A long kitchen knife easily reaches the suction cups and it's off in seconds. If you're parked at a store that solves your problem if you don't normally carry tools like long screwdrivers. If police did not apply the barnacle they can often be removed with impunity.
@@lysergicheadcase he did say he can get hold of windshields with no issue same with me and it is cheaper for me to go through 10 windshields then to pay the fine lol
Easy way to defeat these is if you are prepared with a peel off protector over your glass before hand, then when you get one just peel the whole thing off
Someone needs to invent a device that you just install over the windshield and it hooks onto your cowl. Then just close your hood and it's essentially locked in place until you unlock your car and open the hood to remove it. Should block them from being able to mount their crap. If they come up with smaller ones for the rear window or side windows, then they could just have smaller devices to counteract that as well.
simple enough: cover the outside in tinfoil and use a foil covered sunshade on the inside to block the GPS and remote signals, then just pick the lock , ignoring the keypad, and deposit it in their return bin. No fine paid, and they can't claim damages for you not returning their extortion tool.
Those things are very easy to remove. I watched someone use a hairdryer on high heat to remove them and they don't work well in under 50 deg weather I read. Now car boots are harder to remove but can be done and now in Florida, a lot of tow companies stop using them after getting sued for damage to cars lol A local company had around 200 lawsuits a few years ago because their two truck drivers didn't put them on right or were carelessly doing it.
Plus being FL is a huge gun carry state you take your life into your own hands when you mess with someone elses car. They are not going to care what right you think you have to put this thing on their car. Just saying.
@Rusty shackleford Elsewhere, someone posted a step-by-step guide for how to do this. Allegedly, you can disarm it, deactivate the communication device, remove it from your windshield, then hack the comm. device and use it indefinitely as a free WiFi access point. No idea if it's legit, but it would be pretty funny if someone setup a network of WiFi hotspots with re-engineered Barnacles!
I had one put on my car. Fortunately I own a body glass shop. I cut out the barnacled windshield busted the glass under it, and I put a new windshield on. I cleaned up the glass and returned it to the bin. 😂😂😂
I had this happened once upon a time. They “cracked” my windshield with the barnacle. I went on and paid the fine. Then I sued them. Didn’t get the fine money back but University of Houston police department replaced my windshield and paid for my car rental. My cost was $150. My lawyer brother did all this as pro bono (I did have to buy him a steak lol). I parked in the same place again at a later date and I showed the popo where I parked. Those morons just stared at me with the hatred from hell. But they did nothing to me.
Oh no! Its not like I can pay with a credit card and have them refund me through a credit card dispute. Or I could just drill holes in my own windshield and remove due to lack pressure. Or I will just drive with a cracked windshield and rip it out and go buy a new one.
Cordless DeWalt and a 3/32 or 1/16th drill bit from the top, measure it so the bit won't touch the windshield or have your beer drinking buddy sit in the car so he can see when the bit goes through. I doubt the sensor will pick up a "gentle piercing push"
Its actually Tow Pros' loss bud, in an apartment complex parking lot the local authorities have no jurisdiction, there's felonious act being committed, it would actually be a civil matter (as in Tow Pros suing you) It's like this, I own a hunting ranch, and on the ranch roads (or the side of said roads) i don't want no hunters parked over night and i have signs clearly stated. If i happen to find a hunter's vehicle parked on the side of one of these roads, I'm not going to call the sheriff, he has no say so, it's not his problem being that the ranch roads are private roads, quite honestly he'll probably hang up on me for bringing this up. Let's say I "barnacle" this hunter's truck, and a pissed off hunter drills a hole or somehow breaks the barnacle, do you honestly believe he's up for a felony charge, it's actually my loss, I could choose to sue him, but then again, how do I know he broke it, what if it was already broken or drilled or he can always claim it was probably gone when he got to his truck, I could set up some cameras in my defense. You see the rabbit hole I would have to navigate as a private barnacle installer. Now if it's done by the authorities (police, sheriff, state) you would incurr the proper fine and or imprisonment for destroying this piece.
I see one so on my glass once and I cut it of. U have to cut it where it hold the glass with a cordless makita grinder it Alarm while u cutting it so u have to do it fast
Just park where you don’t get towed . I lived in big cities all my life and I’ll rather pay $30 for parking and not worry about getting towed or ticket. That’s why I work hard. Simple math, $30 dollar parking vs $350 towel or $75 hours ticket
To easy to remove u can slide a slim jim between it and free it or u can use a bbq spatula ive done it. My friend owns a tow company and we were playing with 2 of them to see how fast we can get them off without alarm n damaging it way to easy
