Not likely. Those closet visits are business deals. After a visit, Criterion puts up a page showing what was picked by the visitor as a way to promote their products. It's just like any other endorsement deals, but done cleverly. And now it's "a thing," and the public loves it, as you all do, and it helps sales. It's rare that a niche company is so business savvy. When do you ever see Kino, Eureka, Milestone, and other similar boutique labels do anything like this?
I was there as the store opened this morning. Was able to briefly speak with two other local Criterion enthusiasts, which was fun. Picked up the following titles today, I'll be back for more later this month. Peeping Tom (4KUHD) Lone Star (4KUHD) Raging Bull (4KUHD) The Others (4KUHD) Time Bandits (4KUHD) After Hours (4KUHD) Blast of Silence Only Angels Have Wings
That looks like a great store! Friday morning I visited my local B&N and picked up the following titles: After Hours, Anatomy of a Fall, Mr. Klein, Peeping Tom and The Servant.
Loved the video, Daisuke! I first discovered your channel on day 1 of the 2020 July sale. Can't believe it's been 4 years but so glad the sale and your channel are both still going strong. Thanks as always and be well.
Daisuke used to have to live vicariously through us while we got to go to Barnes and Noble for the Criterion sale. This is exciting that he gets to participate in the sale. 👍
Unfortunately I'm in the UK so can't participate in the Barnes and Noble Sale. However I did pick up Fred Astaire in Swing Time on blu ray. Can't wait to check it out. I got it for a good price.
Cool Daisuke that Barnes and Noble approached you to announce the Criterion sale! I got a few online for the sale and for a friend of mine as well! Hope you and your family are well!
Thanks for the video, Daisuke. In this B&N sale, I picked up the following titles in 4KUHD-Blu Ray format: (1) Risky Business, (2) Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, (3) Peeping Tom, (4) The Long Good Friday, (5) Don't Look Now, (6) The Roaring Twenties and (7) One False Move. #2, 4 and 7 are blind buys. I was also eyeing the new Eric Rohmer box set but heard there are some technical problems with some of the discs (authoring issues, color blocking etc.). So, currently on the fence for that one.
You always have a warm and welcoming approach to your videos. There's so many to choose from! Maybe you can upload a short recommendation video covering a few genres? Take care.
Most people can only order online, as not many are lucky enough to live near a Barnes & Noble store anymore. Everybody should take advantage of these sales before Barnes & Noble either ends these sales and/or goes out of business. I buy at least 3-5 Criterions in every month-long B&N sale and 1-day Criterion sale. That's 4 times a year, about 20 discs a year. Criterion releases about 50 discs a year (4-5 per month). I try to catch the ones I didn't buy at the Criterion Channel.
I went light this time... Last night I ordered online Blue Velvet, Peeping Tom, and Picnic at Hanging Rock to pick up today since I have to drive 45min and wanna make sure they're in stock I'll get Le Samouraï when it comes out next week
I’ve got a film or two I’ve been excited to get for this sale, so I’m looking forward to seeing what all there is at my local Barnes & Noble. Hope you’re doing well Daisuke, please take care and have a great night!
hi daisuke! i hope you are well, my friend. i was watching an old video of yours, and noticed a few evangellion blu-rays. i would love to hear your thoughts on that series, and anime in general. take care!
Somewhat disappointed- Of the 15 titles on my list, 7 are “temporarily out of stock” (and no option to order for when come in), and one (Monsters and Madmen) doesn’t look to be on sale in the first place. Of the 7, Amazon is only matching the price on 2.
Thank you for your interest. Yes I will but also please understand that I have many things at the moment I have to work on (non RU-vid related) so I don’t have as much free time at the moment as I would like. But yes of course it is going to happen but it is a question of when. Your understanding and patience would be greatly appreciated my friend!! 😃. Thank you again and cheers.
The reality is that B&N charges a crazy high amount for physical media ($50 for one 4K) that the 50% off brings it to what they are actually worth and what you pay for regular 4ks. I get they have great bonus features, but NOT $20 great. That being said I just bought 10 4Ks and pre ordered Risky Business🤣
