These "Takeouts" are more nutritious that anything I've ever eaten! Absolutely delicious commentary. Thank you Barnes Foundation!

one of our planned trips this year was with our art friend couple to the Barnes. We were going to pick four galleries and divide into teams and study the groupings and then present to each other why we thought they were grouped as such! Of course we are sheltered in place now here in California but these mini lectures are going to make our trip that much more fun when we go!! Thanks for doing these!!!

These are wonderful and I look forward to them every day - Pippin is amazing with his detail and you have described his methods wonderfully - I too, though, was thinking of the door as a cupboard - one with empty shelves. I will have to take a closer look when able to visit! Thank you to everyone at the Barnes.

When I visited the Barnes and Gallery12, I was drawn to Pippins' painting of Jesus with the woman at the well, and sad to say I didn't pay much attention to this painting. The information on his technique and use of the wood panel was fascinating! I can't wait to come back and see this painting in person.

The use of the wood paneling, for the earth tone outside, you can see the empty rows of the farmland, it matches the wood of the table and the flesh tones of the family inside. These are people of the land, of the earth. Wonderful piece. Thank You

One other thing, eight of his works were donated by Jane Kendall Gingrich, one of the socially prominent women on Philadelphia's Main Line with whom the artist cultivated patronage relationships to the Met. I had never heard of her. Some piece of work. She had a slew of lovers and husbands. One lover, Ernie Hemingway caused his first marriage to break up. She and Ernie had an affair in Havana, where Janie maintained a big home. She drank gin with champagne chasers. She could hunt, fish and have unprotected sex, which drew her to the writer. There is more, but my question is what does this say about our featured artist Horace and our beloved benefactor Dr. Barnes? How did they get together?

Just thinking that what the lecturer described as a partially open door in the cabin appeared to me to be a cupboard with open door, not a door to the outside

Curious...I don't even see how that door is open?
